Harry FiAlenwider in last week’s session of Southern Pines Recorder’s against two 19- year-old West Southern Pines re sidents, on charges of larceny from the person. The youths were ordered held for the grand jury at Superior Court in Carthage and bond for each was set at $1,000. James Thomas Boggans and Vondell Nelson White pleaded not guilty to the charge brought by James Cassidy, age about 40, of West Southern Pines, who accused the youths of taking his pocket- book from him, unknown to him at the time, while they were walking with him to his home. He said the sum of between $6, and $7 in the pocketbook was gone from it when it was found errpty later in his yard. Denying the charge, the youths testified at the hearing that they were escorting Cassidy ‘to his home because, they said, he was drunk and they were walking on each side of him helping to guide him homeward. Cassidy said he wasn’t drunk and didn’t need the attentions they forced on him. It was his belief, he testified, that one of the youths relieved him of his wallet while jostling him in the close personal contact of the walk to his home. White made bond but Boggans could not immediately make his and he was taken to jail at Car thage. Judge Fullenwider meted out several unsuspended jail and pri son terms last week, ranging from a few hours in the town jail to six months on the roads. - There was no “walking” sentence. Re cently the judge has been offering some defendants, especially in traffic cases, a choice of paying a fine or walking a certain dis tance or for a certain ■ length of time. Sentenced to six months on the roads for assaiult with a deadly I weapon, Jesse McCrimmon of j Aberdeen entered an appeal to I Superior- Court and bond was set at $500. Prior to defendant’s ap- |peal. Judge Fullenwider said he I would reduce the sentence to four 1 months if McCrimmon would turn the weapon used in his as sault over to the police depart ment. Here is a summary of other cases heard: John'T.
