Minimum price per ad, 50c Local Child, Nine Years Old, Gives •Blood for Mother Liza McConnell, nine-year-old daughter of Judge and Mrs John D. McConnell of Southern Pines this week became the first child of so young an age to donate blood for medical purposes at Duke Hospital, Durham. There was a special reison for the blood donation, according to information from members of the McConnell family. Liza’s mother, Mrs. Margaret McConnell, this week was under treatment at Duke for shingles, and doctors thought that a special type of antibodies contained in the blood of a person who had had chicken pox might help her condition. As it happened, Liza had chick en pox a few months ago and was therefore, also being in the fam ily, chosen to help with the ex periment. The blood donation was made Tuesday. Home Demonstration Eagle Springs Club The February meeting of the Eagle Springs Club was in the home of Mrs. Herbert Best. Mrs. Host gave the lesson, “Care of Your Clothes.” One new member joined our club, Mrs. Bobbx Caddell. We are glad to have her and know she will be an active member. We were also glad to have Mrs. Frank Blake, back from a trip to Flori da, with us. Mrs. Bost served Valentine re freshments. The March club meeting will be in the home of Mrs. Roy Williams. There were nine members present. Our biggest discussion was on how to rid our lawns of wild onions. It seemed no one had a pamphlet on it. Our clothing leader, Mrs. Rich ard Matthews, gave the lesson on “Care For Your Clothes.” A Val entine’s Day game was played.
