Mrs. Marion Davis was in charge of the program. “This Is My Church.” Mrs. Betty Hammond and Mrs. R. G. McCas- kill assisted her. Mrs. Davis read a poem “I Am The Church.” Mrs. Joseph W. Adams presided and heard reports. Following the meeting, members enjoyed a food sale. The hostess served refresh ments to the 10 members and one visitor present. Personals Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Smith of Sawmill Safety Meeting Set at (Carthage Hotel Two in a series of meetings be ing held throughout the State to promote safety in the sawmill in dustry will be held at Lumberton and at Carthage February 28 and March 1. Sponsored by the N. C. Fores try Association with headquar ters at Raleigh, the meetings are being held in an effort to earn re ductions in the workmen’s com pensation rate for sawmills. Both the Lumberton and the Carthage meetings will begin with a dutch supper at 6:30 p. m. with a formal program at 7:30. The Lumberton meeting will be held at Johnson’s Restaurant, while the Carthage Hotel will be the site of the Car thage gathering. Safety engineers from the N. C. Department of Labor and from the insurance industry will be present to lead a discussion on safety techniques in sawmill oper ations. Both meetings will be open to the public. Since the N. C Forestry Asso ciation launched its safety pro gram in 1959, two substantial re ductions in the workmen’s com pensation rate have been realized in the logging industry. Similar results are the objective of the recently-launched safety program for sawmills. T. G. Harris of Roanoke Rapids is president of the N. C. Forestrry Association and Robert L. Smith of Washington, N. C. heads the Association’s Insurance and Safe ty Committee. Mrs. John A. Fry Succumbs at 83 Mrs. Katherine J. Fry, 83, of Route 1, Carthage, died Saturday in St. Joseph’s Hospital. She is survived by her husband, John A. Fry; six daughters, Mrs. Myrtle Wellons of Charlotte, Mrs. Mittie Barber of West End, Mrs. Kath erine Kale of Hartsville, S. C., Mrs. Elizabeth Foster of Winston- Salem, Mrs. Edith Lawhon of Carthage, Mrs. Mary R. Boroughs of Asheboro; three sons, John of Aberdeen, Howard of Carthage and Robert Fry of McLean, Va.; 26 grandchildren; and 16 great grandchildren, Funeral services were conduct ed Monday at 2 p. m. from the First Baptist Church by the Rev. C. A. Kirby assisted by the Rev. R. D. Spears. Burial was in Cross Hills cemetery, Carthage. The wood products industry is a natural industry in North Caro lina for forests cover much of the land.
