Mc Leod of Southern Pines is attend ing the Naval School of Aviation Medicine at Pensacola, Fla. The 24-week course consists of intensive post-graduate training in the specialized medical aspects of aviation medicine and famil iarization with flight training in single-and multi-engine aircraft and helicopters. Upon completion of the school, students are designated as naval flight surgeons. Army M|Sgf. Clifton N. Blue 46, participated in Exercise Lons Thrust II, a month-long field training exercise in Germany. During the exercise more than 6,000 troops from the 4th Infan try Division, which is regularly located at Fort Lewis, Wash., were flown to Europe in one of the Army’s largest peacetime de ployments overseas. Units regu larly stationed in Germany pro vided 17,000 combat and support troops for the exercise which was designed to provide the participa ting units with long range mobili ty training and to test their com bat readiness. Sergeant Blue, assigned to the 58th Evacuation Hospital in Idar- Oberstein, entered the Army in 1945 and arrived overseas on this tour of duty in November, 1960. The sergeant, son of Mrs. W. A. Blue, Aberdeen, N. C., is a 1932 graduate of Aberdeen High School. His wife, Mrs. Mary Blue, lives in Williamsburg, Va. Army Sgt. Harry A. Hazel wood, whose wife, Lucille, and parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry M Hazlewood, live on Route 1. Aberdeen, N. C., has completed the tracked vehicle maintenance course at The Armor School, Fort Knox, Ky. During the 17-week course Sergeant Hazelwood received in struction in the maintenance and recoveiT of armor vehicles. Thi: course included training in auto motive engine repair and 80 hours of on-the-job training in the maintenance of vehicles in use at Fort Knox. He entered the Army last October. The 22-year-old sergeant is a 1958 graduate of Aberdeen High School and was employed by Wat- son-Williams Manufacturing Co., Pinebluff, before entering the Arrtiy. . Benjamin P, Rowe 111, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Rowe of Southern Pines, is taking recruit training at the Naval Training Center, Great Lakes, Ill. The nine-week training consists of classi'oom instruction in naval topics, including militai-y eti quette, drill, physical fitness swimming and survival, first aid, shipboard safety precautions and security duty. In addition, plan ned recreation periods are inclu ded. I Throughout the training, re cruits receive specialized counsel ing which assists them in select ing a rating in which to work from more than 65 available job specialties. First Sergeant Eugene B. Bush, with over 18 years of service be hind him, reenlisted to fill his own vacancy in ceremonies con ducted by the 55th Medical Group commander, Lt. Col. Harold Lampner at Fort Bragg. FjSgt. Eoish has been assigned to the unit since June, 1962. Prior to his assuming the duties of first sergeant of the unit, he was first sergeant of the 82nd Medical company, 82nd Airborne Division, at Fort Bragg. His decorations include the Good Conduct Medal with three loops, Bronze Star, Master Para chutist Badge, Army tommenda- tion Medal, Combat Medic Badge, WW II Victory Medal. Asiastic- Pacific Campaign Medal, Nation al Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal and the United Nations Service Medal. FlSfft. Bush resides with his wife, Frances, and three children at Cameron. Army Pvt. Ehnery H. Parker, 20, whose wife, Linda, lives on Route 3, Carthage, has completed the five-week aircraft mainte nance course at The Aviation School, Fort Rucker, Ala. Parker was trained to perform maintenance on rotary and fixed- wing aircraft and to participate in the operation of Army airfield. He entered the Army last Octo ber and completed basic training at Fort Jackson, S. C. Parker, who attended Vass- I,akeviev/ High School in Vass, is t-he son of Glenn M. Parker, Route 3, Carthage. Army Specialist Five James H. Maxwell, 21, son of Mr. and Mrs. Boger E. Maxwell, Aberdeen, carticipated in Exercise Long Thrust II, a month-long field training exercise in Germany. During the exercise, more than 4 Young Men of Moore Enlist in Regular Army staff Sergeant Paul Hawks of the U. S. Army Recruiting Star tion in Sanford has announced the following Moore County vol unteers in the Regular Army. Frederick D. Rosser and Fletcher Ray Gamer, of Route 3, Carthage, enlisted for schools un der the Army’s Graduate Special ist Program. Pvts. Rosser and Garner are both graduates of Farm Life High School. Pvt. Route 1, Aberdeen, and Wallace Mack, 1155 Wisconsin Ave., Southern Pines, selected assignment to Army Airborne. Both will attend jump school at Fort Benning, Ga., upon completion of basic training. S’Sgt. Hawks added that high school graduates who qualify on aptitude tests for the school they select may choose from over 100 courses now open. He said actual class assignnients are granted by the Schools Unit in Washington, D.
