C. By SALLY AUMAN Lions Resolutions A resolution was passed at the Lions Club on Thursday night protesting the time cut in depot service as proposed by the Nor folk and,Southern. The Railroad jlans to operate this office with the Pinehurst office, giving West End only three hours daily in the afternoon. The Club went on rec ord as requesting, at least one- haU of each day as proposed by Lion Roy Swaringen. A hearing will be held in Raleigh during the latter part of April, and a dele- .gation from here will attend. The Club also went on.record as favoring an appeal for toll-free telephone service with South ern Pines - Pinehurst-Aberdeen as presented by W. A. Johnson. Jr. An official from the Telephone Company will be asked to mee' with the Club and discuss plan? for such a service. The Beta Club of the school served the club £ supper in the school cafeteria. Team Ruimer-Up Congratulations to Coach Otis Boroughs and the Girls’ High School basketball team which was runner-up in the Count' Championship tournament Satur day night in Robbins. Such a high tribute to our own Otis, who ha? produced the best team West End has had since 1948, is well deserv ed as it is his first year of coach ing. The community is looking forward to next year because Coach Boroughs has developed some excellent team work with many members returning. Senior members of the team are Annette 'Thompson, Charlotte Blake, Charlotte Thomas, Linda McNair and Phyllis Godfrey. The girls who will be here to play foi us next year will be Lois Martin Sue Thomas, Sally Vaughn, Ger aldine Garner, who starred ir most of the games this year and who is only a sophomore; Prances Pusser, Linda Brewer, Sharor Richardson, Gayle Thomas, Dian ne Williams, Judy Luck, and Joyce Blue. McCaskill was moderator for the Bible study. The Women of the Presbvteriar Church will meet on Sunday night at 7:30 at the Church. Pres ident, Mrs. R. B. Lewis urges the members to note the change in time and date. Dinner Meeting The Woman’s Club will meet on Thursday for a dinner at Sam- arcand Manor at 6 o’clock. Girl Scout Week !fn observance of National Gir" Scout Week, the Brownie, Inter mediate and Senior Girl Scouts will worship as a body with their leaders at the Presbyterian Church Sunday morning at 1J o’clock. The community is enjoy ing the jonquils, at the stop sign which the girl scouts planted with the assistance of the hoy scouts, in the fall, commemora ting the 50th anniversary of the founding of their organization. ’The Senior troop is now busy with their work at Moore Mem orial Hospital. The Intermediate troop has been reorganized and Mrs. Ever- ette Cole has accepted the leader ship. The enthusiastic girls meet each Tuesday afternoon after school and are already working on their badge requirements. The Brownies are also organized with Miss Sawyer Fowle as their lead- er. Prayer Service The public is invited to par ticipate in a World Day of Prayer Service at the Methodist Church at 8 o’clock on Friday night. Mbs. A. J. Hanner spiritual life secre tary for the Methodist Women will be in charge of the service Speaker Billy, McKenzie of -Pinehurst spoke to the Men of the FTesby- terian Church on Sunday night on “Christian Witnessing.” Presi dent Archie Farmer gave a call to worship.
