Cole. : Subjects discussed included new Federal legislation affecting pub lic welfare in regard to deserted parent; adequate services for r^ habilitation and prevention; speci al needs of children arid staff development; using day care ser vices, best method of obtaining medical reports for recipients; ind family planning and c^pre^ hensive services for the aging. Scout Art Winners Young Miss Dottie FoUey, ten- year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jean Folley of Aberdeen, and a member of Brownie Troop 99, won first place and received a blue ribbon in the Girl Scout Council Art Contest, for her in teresting drawing of Old Bethes- da Church located just outside Aberdeen. This contest w.as to “picture your home town.” The Council is composed of four coun ties. Six pictures chosen from the Coxmcil’s contest will go' to the Girl Scout Roimdup in But ton Bay, Vermont, this summer. Miss PaulR May Caddell, daughter of 1^. and Mrs. Paul Caddell, won second place in the Senior Scout division. Senior-High Meeting The Aberdeen Senior-High Fel lowship was host to a District Visitation Team Sunday night. The group enjoyed a hamburger supper together, followed by an inspirational program given by the team, Clara Harper, Julia Mc Millan and Ralph Hendron, all of Southern Pines. Bums en- THEATRE SUNRISE Otto Preminger’s production of “Exodus,” film version of the in ternational best-seller, will start its local engagement Sunday at the Sunrise Theatre, through | United Artists release. “Exodus” stars Paul Newman, Eva Marie Saint, Ralph Richard son, Peter Lawford, Lee J. Cobb, Sal Mineo, John Derek, Hugh Griffith, Gregory Ratoff, Felix Aylmer, David C^atoshu and Jill Haworth. It was filmed on loca tion in Israel and Cyprus in Tech nicolor and Super-Panavision. Otto Preminger produced and di rected the film from a screenplay by Dalton Trumbo, based on the iLeon Uris novel. The novel, “Exodus,” which was a hard-cover best-seller for more than a year and half, also has sold more than 6,000,000 copies in paperback. The motion j picture is set in the turbulent times when the Israeli under ground was battling the British and the Arabs in the stmggle for independence. Paul Newman plays Ari Ben Canaan, the heroic leader of the underground movement who spirits a group of Jews out of the British internment camps on Cy prus to Israel aboard a rusty tramp steamer, which was re named the Exodus. Miss Saint portrays Kitty Fremont, the American nurse, who becomes in volved with the movement and falls in love with Ari- Ralph Richardson is the British Gener al, sympathetic to the cause of the Jews. Peter Lawford .is the un sympathetic British army officer. Sal Mineo plays Dov, the young terrorist. Jill Haworth, the pretty 14%-year-old girl whom Premin ger discovered in a London drama ■school, portrays Karen.
