McNEILL Leslie Scott Chosen Aberdeen is proud that Leslie Scott, sixteen-year-old junior in the Aberdeen High School, has been selected as a participant for the Summer Program for High Ability Secoildary School Stu dents at UNC, June 10-July 20. Leslie has been placed in chem istry along with mathematics. He will receive- a grant to be applied towards his expenses. Baby Girl Mr. and Mts. Harry Watson announce the arrival of a baby girl on Monday, April 16, at Moore Memorial Hospital. Thd baby weighed seven j^ounds, nine and one-half ounces, and has been given the n^e Cynthia Kay. The Watsons have a son, Ricky, who is 21 ihonths old. Mrs. Watson is the former Miss Daisy Gamer of Pinehurst. Home and Garden Club Ml’S. D. B. Herring and Mrs. C. E. Pleasants were hostesses to the Aberdeen Home and Garden Club on Tuesday, April 17 in the home of Mrs. Herring. Mrs. Jack Taylor, president, presided and members responded to roll call with timely gardening hints. During 4he business session, Mrs. Sam Swaringen, counselor for the Junior Garden Club, re ported a most enthusiastic meet ing. held with the Juniors at which time Mrs. Herring demon strated corsage-making and flow er arranging to the eager group. Each member of the Senior Club had been asked to bring a flower container to the meeting, to be taken by Mrs. Swaringen for presentation to the Junior Club members. Mrs. E. L. Pleasants, one of the club’s most loved members, was celebrating her birthday on the 17th, and was presented a corsage of Pink Cymbidium Orchids by the hostesses, which Mrs. Her ring pinned at her shoulder while the members sang “Happy Birth day” to her. Mrs. Mizell served as auction eer during the annual plant sale which resulted in $25 being made for the club’s treasury. The hostesses served lemon ioe cream and cake squares decora ted in Easter colors. Coffee and nuts were later served, with Mrs. Taylor pouring coffee. Guests present included Mrs. Edward O’Neal, Miss Bess Gunter, Miss Pearl McMillan, and little Miss Phyllis Hinkle, granddaugh ter of Mrs. Bishop. Briefs Mr. and Mrs. L. Singleton of Laurinburg visited Mrs. J. M. Singleton and Mrs. Ralph Leach, Sr. Sunday. Mrs. Cliff Johnson and daugh ter, Caroline, of Fayetteville vis ited here during the Easter holi days and spent Saturday and Sunday at Ocean Drive, S. C. Mr. and Mrs. Dan Farrell and daughters, Margaret and Genny Fay, visited their sons at McCal- lie School, Chattanooga, Tenn., during the holidays. Mr. and Mrs. Billy McMasfer and daughters, of Red Springs, visited their parents in Aberdeen and Pinebluff Sunday and Mon day. George Gwynn of Laurinburg visited his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Gwynn Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Jimmie Johnson of Raleigh were Easter visitors of relatives here. Mrs. Clifton Wilson, Jr., and children, of Savannah, Ga., were holiday guests of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Greer. Mr. and Mrs. Sid Toman and daughter, of Greensboro, visited relatives here during the week end, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph B. Leach of Buckroe Beach, .Va., and Miss Polly Leach of Raleigh spent the holidays with Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Leach. On Sunday they all visited Mr. and Mrs. Frank Elliott and family in Monroe. Mr. and Mrs. Neill Graham of Durham were guests of Mrs. George Martin and Mrs. Ralph Leach, Sr. Mr. and Mrs. John Buchan and family, of Raleigh, visited Mr. and Mrs. Lee Biuchan and family apd other relatives Monday. Miss Kate Stewart of Washing ton, D. C., visited her mother, Mrs. Robert Stewart, during the weekend. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Austin of Ra leigh and Mr. and Mrs. A1 Lang- don of Tennessee were Easter guests of. Mrs. E. P. Capps. Mr. aild Mrs. W. F. Caddell, Jr., and family of Raleigh and Jim mie Caddell of Salem, Va., spent the weekend with their mother, Mrs. W. F. Caddell, and visited their father, who is a patient at Moore Memorial Hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Wynn and family spent the holidays in Pied mont, S. C. They also visited in Anderson, S. C.. and Boone. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Metsger of Birmingham, Ala., visited her sis ter, Mrs. H. Clifton Blue, and family a few days last week. Dr. and Mrs. John K. Robert son and family, of Pembroke, and Miss Dorothy McNeill of Chapel Hill spent the weekend with their father, W. H. McNeill and family. Mr. and Mrs. Wade Mobley and fsunily spent the holidays with his parents in Williamston. Mr. and Mrs. James Muse and children, of Laurinburg, were Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. M. J. Muse. Miss Lois McLeod spent the holiday weekend in Jackson Springs with relatives. Weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. Lynwood Moon and family were Miss Kay Bbilington of Ra leigh and Leon Gamer, students at State College. Misses Jo Ann and Judy Mau rer of Rocky Mount were week end visitors of Miss Edna Maurer and their father. Bill Maurer. Mr. and Mrs. Dasnrell Kirk of Greensboro spent the weekend with her father, U. T. Hight and family. Mr.andMrs. Robert Farrell, and son, Robie, and Mr. and Mrs. George Anderson and son, John, spent the' weekend at Ocean Drive. Mr. and Mrs. Frank McNeill and family spent the weekend with her mother, Mrs. Paul R. Jordan in Wilmington. Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Watkins and daughter, Terry, spent the •weekend with ,her father. Cliff Cameron. Frmcis Pleasants, Jr., of Tal- ahassee, Fla., spent the holidays with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Francis Pleasants. Glenn Russell of Hampton, Va., visited his family during the Easter vacation. Mrs. Russell Hinkle of Stanly is visiting her mother, Mrs. James H. Bishop,' who suffered a fall last Friday. Mr. and Mrs. D. C. Ewing and granddaughter visited Mrs. Ralph Leach, Sr., and Mrs. J. M. Single- ton Simday. Cecil Hackworth, Jr., visited friends in High Point during the weekend. Mrs. Arnold W. Seawell, Jr., and daughters, of Raleigh, visit ed Mrs. A. W. Seawell and fam ily during Easter, en route from Johnston, S. C., where Mr. Sea well is employed with Johnston Mill. • Mr. and Mrs. Klay Box and daughters of Durham spent the weekend before Elaster with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. T. S. Mel vin and sister. Miss June Mel vin. Mrs. W. A. Blue returned to her home last Tuesday after a visit with her daughter, Mrs. Jack Crane and family in Fayetteville. Mr. and Mrs. G. B. Kimbrell spent a recent, weekend in Millen, Ga. Mrs. C. E Burke accompan ied them home for a visit Mr. and Mrs. Bull Austin and children, Terry and Billy of Ra leigh were recent guests of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. P. Capps. Rural Carriers Meet at Carthage The Spring meeting of the Cen tral Carolina District of Rural Carriers is being held in Carth age today, Clyde Smith, secre- t2iry-treasurer of the mailmen’s group announced. King Westbrook, State vice-pres ident, and Robert Carter, chair man of the Executive Committee, are guests at the meeting. The meeting, to feature a tur key dinner served at 7 p. m., is at the Carthage hotel. The Auxiliary is holding a sep arate meeting after the dinner.
