Page SIX FROM SEAT BELT SALE Kiwanis Pledges $500 to Hospital Building Drive The Sandhills Kiwanis Club has pledged $500 to the Moore Memorial Hospital Building Fund, to be raised through the sale of seat belts, it was announced by Dr. R. Bruce Warlick, president of the club. The club has been selling seat belts as part of its campaign to promote greater safety on the THE PILOT—Southern Pines, North Carolina THURSDAY, MAY 3, 1962 highways, and will turn over all of the proceeds to the Hospital Fund. ,, "We will have a double-bar-> relied attack on the safety pro gram,” said Alwin Folley, chair man of the seatnbelt drive, “for we will be helping to make for safer driving, and helping our hospital facilities at the same time. , , Seat belts can be purchased from any Kiwanian, or by calling Windsor 4-2348. “It is our aim to equip every car in Moore County with these safety devices,” Folley said. In behalf of the family, H. E. Smith of Apopka, Fla. presented a mem orial to their parents. The mem orial was accepted on behalf of the Church by Arlie Thomas, chairman of the board of deacons. In dedicating the memorial, the Rev. A. B. Cranford, pastor, said “May the gift of the altar furni ture prove a blessing to all who come here to worship.’ The late Mr. and Mrs. Smith were mem bers of Center Church and were instrumental in its organization. The altar flowers were also plac ed by the Smith family in mem ory of their parents and were later moved to the cemetery where their parents are buried. Following the service, the f^- ily had a dinner at the West End Legion Hut with 75 members at tending. Family Dinner Mr. and Mrs. Quinton Smith were hosts at a dinner party Sat urday evening honoring the im mediate members of the family. Attend Meeting Appearing before the State Utilities Commission in Raleigh on Wednesday on behalf of the railroad service for West End were Sammy Hill, W. A. John son, Jr., Paul VonCanon and Rob ert Henderson. To Baptize Granddaughter The Rev. and Mrs. George Houck left Friday for Smithburg, Md. where the Rev. Mr. Houck will officiate at the infant bap tism of their granddaughter, Elizabeth, daughter of the Rev. and Mrs. Harry Yeide. 'The Rev. Paul Hanks, superintendent of Camp Monroe, led the worship service at the Presibyterian iChurch Sunday morning and Karen Farmer, student at St. An drews, was organist. The Rev. Mr. Hanks was a dinner guest of the Harold Markhams. Personals Mr. and Mrs. Tom Lewis enter tained for their granddaughter, Linda, of Arlington, Va. at a wiener roast Friday evening. The guests included Linda’s friends when she attended school here and the yenjoyed the hot dogs, marshmallows, pop corn, drinks and all the things that make for a happy teen-age get-together, in the garden of the Lewis home. To add to the fun, Mrs. Lewis plan ned a scavenger hunt. Spending last week at his home in Burnsville were Wade Honey cutt and Tom Lewis. Elvin Jackson was on leave from Fort Jackson for the week end and he and Mrs. Jackson were Sunday dinner guests of Kir. and Mrs. William Jackson. Misses Grace and Cora Donald son visited Mr. and Mrs. Joe Don aldson in Winston-Salem on Sun day. Calling on the Donaldsons Saturday were the Rev. Munn in Richfield. A girl, Robin Kay, was born Wednesday to Al|c and Mrs. Har vey Hartsell of Thomasville AFB, Ala. Mrs. Hartsell is the former Miss Betty Pickard of Thomas ville and the paternal grandpar ents are Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Hartsell. Weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. C. L. Wilkie were Mr and Mrs. C. G. Wallace of Advance. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Auman call ed on Mr. and Mrs. George Henry Shelby and Mr. and Mrs. Harlan Richardson in Charlotte on Sun day. Misses Treva and 'Tressie Aut- man attended the funeral Satur day for Mrs. Walter Graham in Vass and later, called on Mrs. Neal Graham in Cameron. Baldwin and Leslie Kay of Whiteville Rites Held For Milton E. Jones Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at Galilee Baptist Church, Taylortown, for Milton E. Jones, 50, who died Saturday at St. Joseph’s Hospital following a short illness. Officiating minister was the Rev. G. B. Gilchrist. Buriel was in the Taylortown Cemetery. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are four children, four brothers and thre sisters. Mr. Jones, with his wife, Anna, had been in the domestic employ of Mr. and Mrs. S. A.
