Member and Past Commander of Post No. 12 American
Legion.
• He served as classroom teacher for 3 years and high school
principal for 6 years.
• He taught in Wake Forest College and Appalachian State
Teachers’ College Summer Schools.
• He served as County Superintendent of Schools for a total
32 year’s in Moore and Onslow Counties.
• He is a past county unit president of the North Carolina
Education Association.
• He is a past president of the 17 county South Eastern
District of the N. C. Education Association.
• He is 3 times past president of the 17 county Superinten
dents’ Division of the North Central District of the North
Carolina Education Association.
• He is now a Life Member of the National Education As
sociation.
• He is a past president of the Affiliated Educo Clubs of
North Carolina.
• He was elected to WHO’S WHO IN AMERICAN EDUCA
TION. Served on various state and local education com
mittees.
• He is a past president of Carthage Rotary Club and served
two terms as secretary.
• He served on March of Dimes, Veterans, War Bonds, Boy
Scout Council and various other committees.
• He is a member and Past Chairman of Board of Stewards
of Carthage Methodist Church for many years. Served as
Lay Leader, Lay Speaker and taught a Sunday School
Class for a long time.
• He now represents the Library Service Division of
Encyclopaedia Britannica in the Carolinas with headquar
ters in Carthage.

ed six pounds, 14% ounces and
has been given the name Cather
ine Elizabeth.
Mrs. Gallimore is the former
Miss Pearl McFarland.
YWCA HEAD
Miss Sandra Brown, freshman at
Louisburg College, was elected
president of the Young Women’s
Christian Association for the
school year 1962-63. The YWCA
and the YMCA are the two lead
ing organizations on the Louis
burg College Campus.

noon for a covered-dish lunch

presided. The Rev. Brooks Patten
led the invocation.
Mrs. Patt Satterwhite was in
charge of the program and intro
duced Mrs. Carl Maynor, rural
worker at Pembroke, who gave
an interesting talk to the group
concerning her work there. Mrs.
Maynor is supported by the Wes
leyan Service Guilds of the Meth
odist Conference.

Troop No. 108
Girl Scouts of Troop No. 108
enjoyed a cook-out last Thursday
given by Mrs. Lawrence Johnson
and their leader, Mrs. L. B. Har
rington. The outing was held at
a lake in Forest Hills. The fifteen
members and guests enjoyed Bar-
Bi-Que hamburgers with all the
fixings, soft drinks, and “smores”
which they made for dessert.

enjoyed a cook-out at Adain Gar
ner’s lake on Sunday afternoon.
This was held in connection with
Christian,-Family - Week. The
group enjoyed a steak supper.
Boats were provided on the lake
by several members and members
enjoyed leisure rides. Jay Greer
was in charge of the supper, John
Hedden is president of the class,
and lead teacher is Mrs. Charles
Pullen of McCain. Approximately
50 persons were present for the
occasion.

Mrs. Edith Gotch attended the
Beauty Show in Charlotte last
weekend featuring hair tinting
and styling.
The Rev. and Mrs. R. D. Spear,
Jr. and Amy were in Columbia,
S. C. Tuesday where Mr. Spear
officiated for the marriage cere
mony of a cousin.
