Coop er, of Aberdeen, presented a joint recital with Miss Susan Leathers on Saturday evening. Both are members of the Junior Class at Meredith College in Raleigh. The talented Miss Cooper holds membership in musical groups at the college and currently is as sistant to the choir director at Pullen Memorial Church in Ra leigh, a part-time {wsition. In a .recent campus election, she was named president of the Baptist Student Union, one of the three highest offices among students at the college. Attending the recital from Aberdeen were Mr. and Mrs. James W. Woman's Club Mrs. M. E. Libby was a recent hostess to the Aberdeen Woman’s Club. Mrs. J. Vance Rowe, presi dent, presided over the business session. The hostess served re freshments, after which the meet ing adjourned to meet in the O. T. Shop of Pinebluff Sanitarium. Miss Eliza Collins, Physical Ther apist, conducted the members on a most interesting tour, showing the many types of work that are being done including basketry, ceramics, and jewelry making. Cardinal Book Cub Mrs. Garland Williamson was hostess to the Cardinal Book Club Thursday evening with 14 members and two guests attend ing. Mrs. Tommy Gschwind, presi dent, presided over the business session. Mrs. H. N. Russell gave inter esting highlights of the club year. Mrs. C. F. Buffkin presented Misses Libby Voss and Betty Dare Funderburk, who gave delightful recitations which were enjoyed by the group. Mrs. Williamson invited the guests into the dining room where Mrs. Gschwind poured punch and the guests served themselves sandwiches and nuts. A social hour was enjoyed. Bridge Club Mrs. Frank McNeill was host ess to the members of her bridge club and three guests on Friday evening. May 11. Following several progressions of play, scores ■ were tallied and Mrs. Curtis Mclnnis was declar ed high scorer for the members and Mrs Tom Howe, guest high. During play the hostess served punch and potato chips. A dessert course was served at the conclusion of the evening to the following guests: Mrs. Howe, of Pinebluff; Mrs. Charles J. Mc Donald, Jr., and Mrs. Joe Ben nett, of Carthage; and members: Mrs. Watson, Mrs. Mclnnis, Miss Faye Matthews and Mrs. Vann Clark. Briefs Guests of Mr. and Mrs. George Pappendick and family during the weekend were Mr. and Mrs. Local Residents Get Large Catch of Fish A party of local residents made a large catch of fish last weekend. Making the trip out of Southport were Mr. and Mrs. Arthur D. Tener, Everett A. Horrell, Robert W. Howard and De^ey and Larry Moore. Richard Styers of Fort Jackson, S. C., spent the week end with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Styers. Frank Pleasants, a student at Campbell College, spent the weekend with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. N. A. Pleasants. Miss June Melvin and Mr. and Mrs. T. S. Melvin visited Mr. and Mrs, Kley Ewx and daughters in Durham Sunday afternoon. Mrs. W. U. Barefield returned Saturday night from a visit with her sister, Mrs. W. S. Dennis, in Thomaston, Ga. Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Poole and children spent Friday and Satur day with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. G. Whittington. On Satur day morning, they accompanied Mrs. Whittington to the Charlotte airport where she departed by plane for an extended visit with her son and family in California.
