Page TEN THE PILOT—Southern Pines, North Carolina THURSDAY, MAY 30, 1963 I ^ Home Demonstration Club News Miss Flora McDonald, Moore County Home Economics Exten- tion Agent, this week addressed the following letter to the people of Moore County. •‘I wish to extend to you an invitation to visit the Southeast ern District Organization of Home demonstration club mem bers. The counties involved are: Anson, Bladen, Brunswick, Col umbus, Cumberland, Duplin, Har nett, Hoke, Lee, Montgomery, Moore, New Hanover, Pender, Richmond, Robeson, Sampson and Scotland. “The purpose of this workshop is to train craft leaders who will go back into their counties and teach crafts to other people for their own pleasure and to devel op skills in these crafts that will enable them to sell their products which might be a means of in creasing family income. The following Crafts will be taught: Braided Rugs, Chair Caning, Chair Bottoming, Crew el Embroidery, Etched Alumi num, Health Brooms, Hooked Rugs, Italian Hemstitching, Pine Cone Wreath, Quilting (Trapim- to) Swedish Darning, Textile Painting, Wood Carving, Stitch- ery. The cost of room and board will be $12.00 plus the cost of class materials. Bed linen will be COUNTRY Gentleman DISTILLED LONDON DRY GIN 85 PROOF Distilled from 100% Groin $ furnished by the college.” It is expected there will be much interest in this attempt to revive and perfect the handicrafts of this and other regions. Miss McDonald will be one of the teaching staff, with quilting as her specialty. Mt. Holly Club Under the direction of their new president, Mrs. Edd Yow, the Mt. Holly Club has had best at tendance at their monthly meet ings and better interest shown in the lessons on activity of club. A workshop was held in April with 18 present, meeting in the White Hill Fellowship Building. The members were soon busy making hats under the super vision of a member, Mrs. Rupert Spivey. She not only demonstra ted hat-making but has helped several of the ladies make hats and spring suits to match. Mrs. Gilmer Kennedy also helped some of the ladies make smocked sofa pillows. At noon hour a sumptuous pic nic dinner was held. Immediately after dinner Mrs. Yow presided over the regular club meeting. Then the ladies were led in a “How To Sew In A Zipper” les son by our clothing leader, Mrs. Ray Teeter. The ladies were soon back into their hat making. Twelve members attended Fed eration Day in Troy. They were: Mrs. B. Cole, Mrs. E. P. Benner, Mrs. Irene Spivey, Mrs. Dalton Coffer, Mrs. Rupert Spivey, Mrs. Watson Yow, Mrs. Bertha Howie, Mrs. Edd Yow, Mrs. Henry Davis, Mrs. Ray Teeter, Mrs. Gilbert Kennedy, Jr., Miss Frances Fields.. These ladies gave a wonderful report at the May meeting. Mrs. Dalton Coffer and Mrs. Rupert Spivey were hostesses to this meeting. Again plans were made for another workshop—first Wed nesday in June. At this time a demonstration will be given in Crewel em)broidery, .buttonhole making and repeat the “How to sew in a zipper.” A picnic dinner will be held and according to plans this will take the place of our annual July dinner. The club has one member, Mrs. Morrison Cummings, taking the nurses course at the Industrial School in Sanford. —Mrs. G. P. JONES, Public Relations Leader Holly Grove Club The meeting was held at the home of Mrs. Bus Thomas. Miss Flora McDonald cooked a “Skillet One Dish Meal” which included five vegetables and a meat, a real treat in taste and time-saving. The members were urged to attend the Craft Workshop to be held June 11-13 at St. Andrews Presbyterian College, Laurinburg, N. C. A social hour was enjoyed. Mrs. Thomas, assisted by Deb. bie and Ann Thomas, served re freshments. —MRS. WALTER POLEY Public Relations Leader Eagle Springs Club The Eagle Springs Home Dem onstration Club met Monday night with Mrs. John Monroe. The meeting was called to order by Mrs. Roy Williams. Mrs. Dawes Graybeal led the devotions. Mrs. Lynn Martin had the business session and roll call with a report of a good attendance. An inter esting and helpful lesson—“Skil let One Dish Meals” was taught by Miss Flora McDonald, Home Agent. Mrs. Carl Williams and Mrs. Herbert Bost were winners of the game. Umbrella Bounce led by Mrs. Frank Blake. The hostess, Mrs. John Monroe, served refreshments, also our one dish meal was served by Miss McDonald.
