Linda’s family, which include her hus band, Robert Lee Caddell and Lee, along# with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Williams, are just ly proud of her achievement. Linda entered into the extra curricular activities of the school during her 4 years. These inclu ded membership in the Glee Club, the Future Homemakers, (as its reporter,) Beta Club, in which she was vice-president and treas urer; School bus driver for 2 years, class reporter and a mem ber of the high school paper staff. The seniors voted her the friend liest member of the class. Linda was also the 4th runner-up in the Miss West End contest of 1960- 1961. In her home community of Eagle Springs, she is the leader for the 4-H Club, with member ship in the Presbyterian Church, the Home Demonstration Club, and plays on the women’s soft ball team. Richard Sutphin graduated with 2nd high scholastic honors. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Sutphin. During the 4 years, Richard served his school well, which include the presidency of the Beta Club, the Library Club, the Science Club, and the Mono gram Club. Richard played base ball and basketball. On the An nual staff, he was assistant editor and served as vice-president and treasurer of his class. In the stu dent organization, he was on the scholarship and attendance com mittees. Richard’s classmates voted him the most intelligent. He is a Methodist and has been an explorer scout. He received his Senior life saving badge upon completion of the National Red Cross swimming course. The Awards Day Program was held last Friday afternoon at the school with Linda Williams Cad- Caddell and Richard Sutphin re ceiving the Valedictorian and sal- utatorian, respectively. In behalf of the American Legion and the Legion Auxiliary, Miss Lucile Eifort and J. F. Sinclair present ed the Citizenship award to Sally Vaughn and Billy Harris. The Woman’s Club English award for the most improvement went to Clare Cole. Jesse Joyce received an anonymous award, a $25. bond. Joyce Reynolds and Billy Harris were presented the Dan- forth award based on Scholarship, Character and Leadership. The Junior Builder’s Cup, sponsored by the Sandhill Ki- wanis Club, was awarded Clare Cole. Named to Girls State by ■ the American Legion Auxiliary were Judy Williams and Glendora Jones, and to Boys State from the Legion were Dwight Puckett and Douglas Tuttle. Dwight Puckett was the Moore County winner for the Carolina Charter Tercentary Essay Contest. School repjresentatives in the County Recitation and Declama tion contest were Becky Mark ham and Gene Lewis. The following 9th grade stu dents scsored in the top 25 per cent of all students taking the National Education Development Test in North Carolina: John Blue, J. E. Bost, Gene Lewis, Ted Monroe, Jo Ann Sutphin and Ver non Sutphin. The Future Farmers medals lor Farm Machinery was presented James Dick; Soil Management, Jerry Patterson and Public Speaking, Jesse Kimball. College Grads Gary Rushing was graduated Sunday from Wingate College in Arts and Commerce. Attending the exercises were Mr. and Mrs. Roscoe D. Rushing and Gilbert and Mr. and Mrs. Billy Rushing. Kenneth Greens also graduated at Winagte and Mr. and Mrs. God frey Greene attended their son’s graduation exercises. The room mates will continue their educa tion at Campbell College. The Bloodmobile will be at West End on June 17, as an nounced by the co-chairmen, J. B. Barnetts and Z. B. Conrad. Rep resentatives from the Woman’s Club will again be responsible for the canteen. Here’s another reminder of the Barbecu.s meal to be served by the firemen at the Firehouse, Fri day (June 7) from 11 a. m.-9 p. m. Revival Services will begin Sunday evening, June 2, at 7:45 at the West End Methodist Church. The visiting minister will be the Rev. Earl Tyson of Collinsville, Va., who is one of six brothers and all are Metho dist ministers. He is a very able speaker and much sought after for revival services. The public is invited to attend the services and there will be a special children’s service at 7:45 each evening and worship will begin at 8 o’clock. There will also be special music each service. Miss Alberta Monroe is Direc tor of the Methodist Vacation Church School which will begin at 8:30 a. m. (June 3). Courses will be provided for the kindergarten. Primary and Juniors and the sessions will include Bible Study Creative Activities and Group singing conducted by the pastor the Rev. A. L. Reynolds, refresh ments and recreation. It is very important that parents keep this in mind and see that the children are in attendance. Mrs. Harold Markham, director of the Presbyterian Vacation Church School, announces that classes will begin Sunday morn ing, June 2, at the regular Sun day School hour. Beginning Mon day morning at 8:30, classes will continue until 11 o’clock. The courses of study include kinder garten, Primary and Junior age. Mrs. Foy Horton of Thomas- ville,, a former resident of this community, was hospitalized last week at Moore Memorial. The Hortons will attend the gradua tion exercises this week for their son. Cadet William Andrew Hor ton, at Hargrave Military Acad emy, Chatham, Va. Andy was rec ognized by the school as the Cad et of the month during his senior year. Eugene Dunn has returned to his air base at Tucson, Arizona, after spending a 10-day fur lough with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Dunn.
