Thursday evening, December 12, at 8 p. m., Mrs. Bill Poley will be hostess to the Woman’s Club at her home. Holly Hill, and members will each take a Christ mas arrangement. Also on December 12, at 8 o’clock, Mrs. North Lewis will entertain the Sandspur Club at a Christmas party. Sunday, December 15, the Pres byterians will have a family night supper at 6 p. m. and a Christmas Vesper program. Friday, December 20, school closes for the holidays; at 7 o’clock, homecoming basketball game with High Falls; at 7:30, the Methodist Sunday School program and Christmas party will be held. Sunday evening, December 22, Christmas pageant at the Baptist Church; the Methodists will pre sent a musical program by the Church Choir and a Cantata by the Children’s Choir; the annual Joy Gift service will be held at the Presbyterian Church with the Pioneer Fellowship in charge of the program. Monday evening, December 23, the young people of the Baptist church will sing carols which will be followed with a party; the Presbyterian Church School will have Santa Claus in person and a party. Funeral Held Mrs. Lydia Cheek Rives of Goldston, sister of Mrs. Quinton Smith and Hurley Cheek, died Sunday. Funeral services were conducted Monday at 3 p. m. from the Goldston Chapel by the Rev. C. E. Vale and the Rev. Claude Johnson. Honored at Shower Miss Brenda Ann Williams of Eagle Springs, bride-elect of Fri day, was honored at a floating bridal shower Saturday evening at the Eagle Springs Town Hall. The hostesses for the party were Mrs. Brenda Gale and Mrs. Doro thy 'Williams. ■^'inners Four Future Farmers won sec ond place in a tool judging con test at Robbins. These boys had a score of 280 out of a possible 300. They were Keith HaU, Dicky Cagle, Mike Graham and Jesse Blake. Jesse had: one of the high est scores, 98 out of the possible 100. Their teacher, Wayne Liv- ingood, would like to commend them for a fine job. Attend TV Show Mrs. Herbert Harris, Mrs. La- verne Caddell and Mrs. Bill Poley of the Holly Grove Demonstra tion Club were among the 100 club women from Moore and Lee Counties attending the Peggy Mann Television show on Wed nesday in Durham. The women were guests of the Durham Mer chants Association which had two trailway buses in Sanford for transportation. Basketball The boys and girls defeated El- lerbe in a non-conference bas ketball game Friday night. 'The girls won by a score of 40-32. Geraldine Garner led the scoring with 21 points and Frances Pus-, ser with 9 points. The boys’ score was 52-51. C. R. Smith led with 24 points, Charles Harris with 11 and Johnny Rob bins, seven. West End divided honors on Tuesday night in a conference game with Aberdeen. The local girls won by a score of 50-23. Geraldine Garner scored 19 points and Frances Pusser 17. The boys lost by a score of 37- 52. Ray Garner scored eight points and Franoss Pusser 17. Teh boys lost by a score of 37- 52. Ray Garner scored eight points and Harry Lewis and Charles Harris scored seven points each. Mission Study A mission study was presented by the Baptist on Monday evening at the church with the president, Mrs. Edwin Baughn in charge of the program. She was assisted by Mrs. Bobby Dunn, Mrs. Dennis Greene, Mrs. Morris Shelton and Mrs. Lonnie Luck. Week of Prayer This week, the Baptist women are observing a week of prayer with programs each evening. An offering will be taken for foreign missions. The Rev. Darrell Cbx of High Point conducted the Sun day Morning worship services at the Baptist Church. Circle Meets The Minnie Morris Circle of the Methodist Women met Monday evening with Mrs. W. A. Johnson. Mrs. Ernest Tart presented the program assisted by Mrs. Ried Furr and Mrs. Francis Currie, Jr. The circle will play Santa Claus to a group of little girls. Personals Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Dunn with Ronnie and Cheryl and Mr. and Mrs. T. C. Gibson attended! the Duke-Penn State basketball game last week at the Duke in door stadium. The Rev. Daniel Boone attend ed a church conference in Fay etteville Sunday afternoon. Sunday visitors of the Hawley Pooles were Dr. and Mrs. E. N. Booker and Walton Booker of Sehna, the Sam Poole family Of High Point and Mrs. Geneva Mc- Leod and Mrs. Otis Poole of Jack- son Springs. Also calling on the Pooles recently were Mr. and Mrs. Alton Mimn of Colerain and Clifton Munn of Fairfax County, Va. Mrs. E. R. Outland is visiting Mrs. Lena Sullivan in Jackson Springs. Mrs. Glenn Lewis is home after being hospitalized last week with a broken wrist. Mr. and Mrs. William Jackson with Jane attended the Sunday morning worship service at the Carthage Presbyterian Church at which time their son, EHvin, was ordained a deacon of the church.
