She has been an associ ate of her father, Dr. Abraham Vereide, founder and director of International Christian Leader ship, in developing prayer groups with the Congressional wives, with women in diplomatic circles, and with women in various gov ernmental agencies, Mrs. Abra- hamsen is the Official hostess at Fellowship House, International Christian Leadership headquar ters on Embassy Row in Wash ington, D. A timely special feature at the luncheon is being given by Mrs. Garland Pierce of Welch’s Gift Shop of Southern Pines. The musical portion of the pro gram will feature Joseph Garnier, baritone, of Pinahurst. Winter Season Guests Arrived During Week At Hollywood Hotel Mrs. Huntington McLane of Millbrook, N. Y., has returned to spend the winter at the Holly wood Hotel. Mrs. E. F. Gregory of Unadilla, N. Y., has also arrived for the winter there. Other recent arrivals include Mrs. Wayne L. 'Tyson and D. Gregory, Jr., who acompanied their mother to the hotel, staying for a visit of a few days. Mrs. Albert Wampole of Balti more, Md., stopped off on her way to Florida. Miss Nancy Waterman of East Greenwich, R. I., is spending the winter season at the hotel. Distinguished General Officer Visits Local Retired Army Man Here Maj. Gen. Charles H. White, a distinguished corps commamder of World War II, dropped in, had lunch and spent a day this week with Col. O. A. Dickenson, (USA Retired) and Mrs. Dicken son. He was en route to Fort Sam Houston, Tex., to visit his son, who is chief of staff of the Fourth Army Area. General White and Colonel Dickenson were lieutenants to gether in the old Army Fifth In fantry in Cuba during the oc cupation of that Island in early 1900, and later, at Plattsburg Bar racks, N. Y. Forty-five splendid young voices participated' in a rendition “Childe Jesus, A Christmas Cantata,” and two choruses from “The Messiah.” The soloists were Mary Bailey and Stanley Whitley and the piano accompanists were Marie Mangum, Gerry Gilmore and Jane McGoogan. A short business meeting was "oil owed by refreshments, with Mrs. Charles J. Mumford presid ing at the tea table. Hostesses for the day were Mrs. Robert M, Cushman, Miss Norma Shiring, Miss Hazel Shiring, Mrs. Myron Hawk, Mrs. William Caton and Mrs. Marvin Cornell. The beautiful Christmas decora tions were the work of Mrs. Dean Dorman, Mrs; Walter S. Sergeant and Mrs. J. D. LITTLE Classmate Of Late President Kennedy Visits Family Here A welcome visitor with the Rev. and Mrs. A. L. Horn at their home, 510 West Maine Avenue, over the past weekend was their son, Garfield, an international lawyer who is a member of the Sullivan and CromweU Law Firm of New York, with headquarters in their recently-established branch office in Paris, France. A graduate of Harvard Law School, Garfield Horn was a classmate of the late President John F. Kennedy at Harvard! University. Though unable to come to this country for Mr. Ken nedy’s funeral, Mr. Horn recent ly donated his services for about two months in Washington, as-( sisting the U. S. Government in its program on Foreign Aid. During his visit here, Garfield and his parents joined his broth er, Herbert Horn and his wife and family for dinner in Laurinburg. Herbert is head of the Piano De partment at St. Andrews College there. MARRIAGE OF PINEHURST GIRL TO LOCAL HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATE IS ANNOUNCED Dogwood Grove 253 of the Su preme Forest Woodmen Circle met Monday evening with Miss Mary Scott Newton presiding. A special invitation was ex tended to aU members to the home of Miss Amelia Crain and daughters. Misses Pauline and Louise, for a Christmas party Saturday evening, December 14, at 8 o’clock. During the business session, the members voted to send a con tribution to the Woodmen Circle Home in Sherman, Tex., for Christmas. The money will be used to spread cheer among its members. Each member of the circle was asked to send Mrs. D. El Bailey a get-well card. Mrs. Bailey is a patient at Moore Memorial Hos pital. Beginning in January, each member has been asked to bring canned goods suitable for filling baskets for the less fortunate. A special container will be set up in the Woodmen Hall for the do nations, and each month it is hoped many items will be added. Marietta, Ga., after a Thanksgiv ing visit here with his mother, Mrs. D. G. Case,''on Morganton Road. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Smith of Pineburst annpunce the marriage of their daughter, Teena, to George W. Little, son of Mr. and Mrs. George B. Little of 265 West Rhode Island Avenue, Southern Pines. The couple, married' September ' 26 in Bennettsville, S. C., are now living at the Littlefield Apartments on East Indiana Ave nue Extension. Volunteer Workers Of Legion Auxiliary Help In Hospital Gift Shops Two car loads of volunteer hos pital workers of the American Legion Auxiliary spent Tuesday assisting in the Christmas Gift Shop at the Veterans Hospital in Fayetteville, where patients choose presents for their families free of charge. Gifts are supplied the four VA hospitals in North Carolina by auxiliaries of the American Legion. Miss Nannie Gilchrist and Dan McNeill drove their cars, and as sisting in the work were Mrs. David McCallum, Mrs. Pearl T. Rard'en, Mrs J. S. McLauchlin, Mrs. Julia Epps, Mrs. Allie B. Rose and Mrs. Dan McNeill. United Church Youth To Visit Morehead Planetarium Sunday The Rev. Carl Wallace, pastor of the United Church Of Christ, will have as a sermon topic for Sunday, December 15—“A Ven ture of Love.” The Youth Fellowships will leave the church at 1:15 p. m. Sunday and travel to Chapel Hill, to see “Star of Bethlehem” at the Morehead Planetarium. The Church Council will meet Wednesday evening, December 18, at 8 p. m. Two special programs for Christmas are announced: Christ mas music Sunday morning, De cember 22, during the regular worship service; and a Church School program Monday, Decem ber 23 at 7:30 p. m. Couple From Newport News Retires Here; Both Are Tar Heels Arriving in town during the Thanksgiving weekend were Mr. and Mrs. L. C. Tatum, now mak ing their home at 15 East Indiana Avenue. Mr. Tatum is retired after over 25 years with the Civil Service. The couple has lived in Newport News, Va., and he has been em ployed at nearby Fort Elustis. As both are Tar Heels, natives of Fayetteville, they decided to come to this section to live. An additional reason for their choos ing Southern Pines was that Mrs. Tatum’s sister, Mrs. J. D. Lewis of 120 East Indiana Avenue, is a longtime resident here. The Tatums have three sons living in Newport News. Mrs. Little is a graduate of the Pinehurst High School and Aus tin Peay State College of Parksville, Tenn. She is present ly teaching in the Carthage High School. Mr. Little, who graduated from the Southern Pines High School and attended the University of North Carolina, is employed with the local office of the Durham Life Insurance Company. COUPLE MARRIED IN THE VASS METHODIST CHURCH NOW LIVING IN SOUTHERN PINES The Vass Methodist Church was the scene December 1 of the wed ding of Miss Sophia Oldham and Larry Blue. The Rev. David Moe pastor, officiated at the ceremony at 4 in the afternoon. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. M. Oldham of Vass. Her husband’s parents are Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Blue of Car thage. Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a floor length gown of white lace over satin fashioned in a belle skirt, with long pointed sleeves. Her coronet of net held a fingertip length veil and she carried a prayerbook topped with an orchid. Mrs. Blue McCaskill of Carth age was matron of honor for her twin sister. She wore a street length dress of green satin, with matching head piece fashioned in a tuberose, and carried a sin gle white carnation. The other attendants, the bride’s sister. Miss Emma Oldham, and Miss Pamela Blue, the bride groom’s sister, wore dresses of red satin with matching head pieces and each carried a single white carnation. Harold Dean Blue of Greens boro was his brother’s best man. Ushers were Blue McCaskill and Jerry McCaskill, both of Southern Pines. Mrs. W. E. Gladstone, pianist of Southern Pines, presented a pro gram of wedding music and Bobby Matthews sang. After a wedding trip to the mountains, the couple is at home in Southern Pines, where Mr. Blue is employed with the Car olina Power & Light Company. Mrs. Blue, a graduate of the Vass- Lakeview High School, is em ployed at Moore Memorial Hos pital. Reception Immediately following the wed ding ceremony, the bride’s par ents entertained at a reception in the church’s fellowship hall. Children’s Choir Of St. Anthony’s School Sings At Guild Meet Members of St. Joseph’s Hospi tal Guild, meeting Tuesday at the hospital, heard a program of Christmas carols sung by the St. Anthony’s Children’s Choir. Presiding at the meeting was vice president, Mrs Lee K. Smiths Mrs. Frank Cosgrove and Mrs, Jerry Healy were co-hostesses at a delightful Christmas tea follow-* ing. Organist Of Episcopal Church To Play Friday At Brownson Memorial William C. Whitley, organist and choirmaster of Emmanuel Episcopal Church, will be guest organist in a noon recital this Friday, December 13, at Brown- son Memorial Presbyterian Church. His program will include works of Bach, Franck and Langlais. The public is invited. Division Winners Named In Silver Foils Club Tourney At Pinehurst Winners in two divisions of play in Tuesday’s individual par- bogey tournament for Silver Foils Club members at the Pine-* hurst Country Club were; Class A—Mrs. J. A. Ruggles, 78 points; Class B—Mrs. Quincey A. Gill- more, 76 points. With runners-up tied in both classes, winners were decided by matching cards, resulting in a sec ond for Mrs. Stuart H. Patterson over Mrs. Q. A. Shaw McKean, both with 76 points, in Class A; and for Mrs. Homer H. Johnson over Mrs. Thomas C. Ragan, both with 66 points in B. Prize Takers Named In Sandhill Duplicate Club Play Tuesday Mrs. Betsy Hitson and Mrs. T. C. Worth, Jr. were top honor win-- ners at the regular Tuesday eve ning Sandhill Duplicate Bridge Club session held as always at the Southern Pines Country Club. In second place were Mrs. C. D.
