Many out-of-town people at tended the funeral of W. D. Cad- dell from the Baptist Church, conducted by Rev. Charles Mos ley, Rev. W. S. Golden and Rev. S. M. Williamson. Burial was in Cross Hill Cemetery. Brady Succumbs At 39 Paul Blue Brady, 39, of Carth age, Route 1, died Monday morn ing. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Mary Lou Flinchum Brady; three sons, Edward Paul, Joel Thomas, and James Lawrence Brady, all of the home; one grand child; his mother, Mrs. Carl Mooney of Carthage, Route 2; three sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Men dez of Dalhart, Tex., Mrs. Mar garet Crabtree of Carthage, Route 1, and Mrs. Rachel Brady of Highfalls and one brother, June L. Brady of Robbins. Funeral services were held Wednesday at Calvary Baptist Church. The Rev. Bennie Maness, the Rev. B. E. Dotson, the Rev. W. F. Golden, and the Rev. J. T. Moon officiated. CHARLES CAMERON Presbyterian Circles The circles of the Vass Presby terian Women of the church held their monthly meetings last week. The Bible study was on “The Royal Psalms’’ an^ “Ministerial Relief’’ was the monthly empha sis. Jane McGill Circle met Mon day night with Mrs. W. J. Mor gan. Mrs. C. G. Crockett presided. Mrs. Eugene Hicks led the pro gram and Mrs. Crockett modera ted the Bible study. Plans were made for spreading cheer at Christmas. Circle 1 met on Wednesday night with Mrs. Herbert Caddell, who presided. Mrs. R. A. Edwards moderated the Bible study. Mrs. Pete Mashburn presented the program. “Secret Pals” were dis closed as the Christmas gifts were given out. Refreshments were served at the close of the meetings. Ladies Night The Methodist Men of the Church were hosts to the annual ladies night dinner last Wednes day evening at the Palomino Restaurant. The Rev. David Moe welcomed the group and led the invocation. Roy Frye introduced the “Poplar Springs Quartet,” who presented a program of hymns, accompanied at the piano byMrs. Phillips. Mr. Phillips was a special guest also. The group joined in singing “Silent Night,” led by Mrs. S. R. Smith. Mrs. Moe gave the response for the ladies. The Rev. Mr. Moe led in the benediction. Mission Sludly A mission study was presented by the Baptist WMU last Monday evening at the church education building. Mrs. Bussell Tate was in charge of the study “The Man- dlebaum Gate.” She was assisted by Mrs. F. L. Taylor and Mrs. Loftin Beauchamp. Prior to the study a covered dish supper was enjoyed by the ladies. Week of PTrayer Last week, the Baptist Wom en observed a week of prayer. Mrs. F. L. Taylor was in charge of the program services. Scout Party Some 60 parents, friends and Junior and Brownie Scouts en-i joyed a “Carry-In Supper” at the community house last Friday night. The hall was decorated with a tree for the festive occa sion. Birth Announcements Mr. and Mrs. Roby Futrell an nounce the birth of a third son, December 15, at St. Joseph’s Hos pital. The baby weighing eight pounds 1% ounces, has been named PhiUip Harris. In addition to his two brothers, Nickey and Andy, is a sister, Donna. Mr. and Mrs. Hugh McLean announce the birth of a son, De cember 16, at Moore Memorial Hospital, liie baby weighed in at seven pounds, five ounces. The couple has one other child, a daughter, Gail. Mr. and Mrs. Calvin B. Blue, Jr. of Route 3, Carthage, an nounce the birth of a son at Moore Memorial Hospital Mon day, December 16. Attend TV Program Mrs. Robert Coffey, Mrs. John Baker, Mrs. M. M. Routh, Mrs. M. M. Poole accompanied the Moore County Home Demonstration agent, Mrs. Jean Hubbard, to Dimham on Tuesday of last week. They were among the guests from 10 counties represented by four members from the clubs attend ing the Peggy Mann TV Show for the judging of handmade ar ticles recently displayed on the show. Following the program, a lunch eon at the Wedgewood Room, Jack Tar Hotel, was enjoyed, •compliments of WTVD. School Holidays According to an announcement by John McCrummen, principal, ■Christmas holidays for students at Vass-Lakeview High School begin at the close of school Fri day, December 20 and end with the re-opening of school on Thursday, January 2. Christmas Pageant On Sunday, December 22, at 7:30 p. m., a Christmas Pageant tvill be presented at the Vass fchurch of God. Guest Night The Vass Woman’s Club enter tained at guest night last Friday evening at the local school home economics room. Mrs. S. R. Smith was club hostess for their regular meeting and annual Christinas covered dish supper. Mrs. Jack Morgan presided and gave the 'welcome. Mrs. P. A. Wilson was in charge of the devotional on “The Youngest Shepherd.” Mrs. C. L. Tyson, pro^am leader, pre sented a reading, “Spirit o'. Christmas;” assisting the leader with the topic “Let’s Keep Christmas” was Mrs. W. A. Muse. Following the program, the group, led by Mrs. Gladstone, sang Christmas carols and exchanged gifts. Honored A pre-nuptial honor for Miss Ann Frye, bride-elect of Henry Callahan, was a social hour with refreshments given by the Vass- Lakeview School Faculty Friday afternoon in the Home Economics room. From the faculty, the hon- oree received a gift, a silver tray engraved with the letter “C,” which was presented by David Page. Three of the bridesmaids, Amy Callahan, Patricia Callahan and Ann Crockett, served re freshments of sandwiches, cake, mints and punch. Miss Frye is employed as school secretary. She will be married December 24. James Thomas, RD-2, with a . friend, Richard Wilkins, RD-2, both stationed at Charleston, S. C., visited relatives here over the weekend. Jerry Smith, son of Mr. and Mrs. P. T. Smith arrived honie last week from Vandenburg AFB, Calif. Jerry was honorably dis charged after completing four years’ duty with the U. S. Air Force. Mrs. Mary Howell was a pa tient at St. Joseph’s Hospital from Monday until Friday of last week. Mrs. M. L. Stevenson remains a patient at Moore Memorial Hos pital. Last Wednesday, her con dition was listed as critical but 'she is slowly improving.
