WEST END NEWS AND PERSONALS

The Rev. Darrell Cox has ac
cepted the call to the West End
Baptist Church. Announcement
was made by Bobby Dunn, who
served as chairman of the pulpit
committee.
The Rev. and Mrs. Cox, with
their three-year-old son, Gregory,
moved into the parsonage Friday
and he conducted worship serv
ices Sunday evening. The Rev.
Mr. Cox is a senior at Fruitland
Baptist Institute in Henderson
ville and will graduate in March.
In the interim, he wiU conduct
services here each second and
fourth Sunday morning and each
first and third Simday evening.
He will also continue to serve the
Center Cross Baptist Church near
Seagrove, where he has been the
pastor for two years.
Both the Rev. and Mrs. Cox are
natives of High Point. He gradu
ated from the Allen Jay High
School and the Piedmont Bible
College in Winston-Salem. Mrs.
Cox, the former Hilda Kennedy,
who attended Bryce Commercial
College, is a secretary in High
Point and will continue her work
until the family moves here per
manently in March.
On Leave
with Thomas, Jane, Jennifer and
Eric, spent the holidays in Flori
da. On Christmas Day, the chil
dren went wading in the ocean at
Miami Beach, although it was too
cold to swim, with the tempera
ture at 51 degrees. Stopping at
Orangeburg, S. C., for worship
services on Sunday at the First
Presbyterian Church, they en
joyed visiting with Dan Roberts,
formerly of Carthage.
Woman's Club Program
Moore County Farm Agent, F.
D. Allen will present a program
to the Woman’s Club Thursday
evening at the Methodist Youth
Building. Mr. Allen will show
slides and discuss gardening,
shrubs and the' cultivation of
roses.

Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Hartsell
spent 10 days with his parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Hartsell,
Harvey is with the US Air Force
and, prior to his furlough, was
stationed at Elgin AFB near Pen
sacola, Fla. On Wednesday, Har
vey will leave by jet for a year’s
tour-of-duty as a radar technician
in Alaska. During the year, Mrs.
Hartsell and Robyn will make
their home with her mother, Mrs.
Dorothy Perkins, in 'rhomasville,
Ala.

Five Chemistry
Teachers Will
Receive Awards
Nominations have been asked
for special awards honoring the
five most outstanding high school
chemistry teachers in a 26-county
North Carolina area that includes
Moore County.
The invitation was issued by
Dr. John F. Williams of the Lig
gett and Myers Tobacco Co. in
Durham, chairman of the . Secon
dary School Chemistry Teacher
Awards Program of the North
Carolina Section of the American
Chemical Society, which sponsors
the annual event.
Any chemistry teacher in the
area who was not among those
honored last year is eligible.
Nominations must be made eith
er by the school principal or su
perintendent.
In addition, four others will
win scrolls of commendation.
Judging will be done by members
of the awards committee of the
N. C. Section of the ACS, and the
winners will be honored at a
meeting of the Society to be held
in February.

Lions Club Thursday evening on

Constitution which led to a dis

Amendment to be voted on this

after being a patient for two
weeks at Moore Memorial Hospi
tal. Joining the family at the
