Currie, Jackson Springs, Succumbs At 75 THE PILOT—Southern Pines, North Carolina Funeral services were held Sunday, December 29, at Jackson Springs Presbyterian Church for Mrs. Jeanette Seawell Currie, 75, of Jackson Springs, who died De cember 28. The Rev. Thomas Ker- nan and the Rev. Lacy McDuffie officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery. Mrs. Currie was the widow of the late J. E. Currie. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. W. W. Thompson and Mrs. E. J. Blue, of Jackson Springs; one son, Dr. J. E. Currie, Jr., of Southern Pines; two sisters, Mrs. Lena Sul livan of Jackson Springs and Mrs. W. T. Warlick of Statesville; one brother, Raymond Seawell of Jackson Springs; and eight grandchildren. Southern Pines Recorders Court Page THM The first after-holiday sessioli of Southern Pines Recorder’s Court, held Thursday of last week at town hall with Judge W. Harry Fullenwider presiding, produced assault, traffic and a variety of other cases. Several defendants chose to walk to Howard Johnson’s Res taurant and back to the town hall, in place of paying a fine, also paying court costs. Stiffest sentences of the day were meted out to Billy Lee Ceaser of West Southern Pines— three months on the roads for as sault with a deadly weapon, and one month, not to run concur rently, for destruction of person al property. No appeal was enter ed. Charged with affray, Bobby Terry, also of West Southern Pines, was sentenced to two months on the roads and entered an appeal to Superior Court. Bond was set at $500 and Judge Fullenwider instructed that the defendant’s past court records are to be sent to the Superior Court, with a recommendation that a jail sentence be given, if he is found guilty. Another defendant was charged with destruction or personal Allen McNeill, trespass, vile and W. G. Ashburn, arthage, Dies Walter Gray Ashbum, 82, of Carthage, died Saturday, Decem ber 28. Funeral services were conducted December 30 in the Red Branch Baptist Church by the Rev. Billy Metiers. Burial was in the church cemetery. Surviving are his wife, Mi-s. Margalotti, Fort Bragg, failure to drive auto to right of center line, not in passing; and Edward Hart Koster, speeding 50 in 35 zone. ’Three defendants were charged with drunken driving, all sen tenced to pay $100 fines and costs and to surrender driver’s license for revocation. .They were: Ray J. Furr, Route 2, Vass; Mary Hall Powell, Fayetteville; and Douglas A. Haddix, Fort Bragg, who was also charged with possession of taxpaid liquor with seal broken. Charged with public drunk enness, noting disposition of cases, were: Lee Lawson, Route 2, Vass, Glen Phillips Star, and Hubert Jozwinski, Clifton, N. J., each $10 and costs; Arthur Lucas (also charged with possession of taxpaid liquor with seal broken), judgment continued on payment of costs, the whiskey to be de stroyed, defendant not to be found on the premises of Bill’s Taxi stand without permission of the court, not to ha convicted of a similar offense or an active sen tence will be given; Ernest Paye, not guilty. Other cases heard: Walter Ree Littles, Rocking ham, no operator’s license, $25 and costs; Joyce Helen Lusk, Route 2, Vass, displaying flashing light on front of vehicle when not in an emergency, not guilty; John profane language, pay the costs, not to go back on premises of Pugh’s Grill unless invited; 2^n- nie Seagraves, Aberdeen, affray, $10 and costs; Mackie Lee Stubbs, possession of non-taxpaid whis key, found guilty, no sentence given, appeal entered, appeal bond already set in a former case involving this defendant, in Su perior Court; John Walter Eleam, Fort Bragg, and Jessie Mae Gar- Fort Bragg, and Jessie Mae Gar rison, McCain, each charged with speeding 45 in 35 zone, each, $10 and costs; Paul Gaddy Gotten, vile and profane language, $10 and costs; Oliver Hunter, aban donment, case left open, if any further complaints, defendant Will receive active jail sentence.
