Sanders, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. B. Sanders of Poplar Street, Aberdeen. The couple was married at the bride’s home by Dr. Julian Lake, pastor of Brownson Memorial Presbyterian Church. A reception for the couple’s im mediate families followted the wedding ceremony. Annual Meeting And Family Night Dinner Set At United Church “The Well Spring of Power” will be the subject of the Rev. Carl Wallace’s sermon at the 11 a. m. service Sunday at the United Church of Christ. Members of the church’s youth fellowship will join with the Youth Federation of Southern Pines in a meeting at 6 p. m. Sun day at the Community Church in Pinehurst. The annual business meeting of the United Church, to be prece ded by the family night dinner, will be held Wednesday begin ning at 6:30 p. m. On Teleprayer (692-2941) next week, the Rev. Mr. Wallace will join with Father John Harper, pastor of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, in a series of discussions on the important principles of the Christian Faith. TO ATTEND RETREAT Fifteen vestrymen of Emmanuel Episcopal Church will go to Cha pel Hill Friday for a two-day re treat and planning session to be held there, with headquarters at the Carolina Inn. a lovely Christmas Eve candle light service at the Vass Metho dist Church. The bride was attended by Mrs. Bobby Joe Blue of Carthage, ma tron of honor, who wore a street length emerald green dress of taffeta, fashioned with boat neck, short sleeves and bell skirt. All the attendants wore elbow length white gloves! Their head- pieces, made by the bride were of green veiling attached to a crown of green taffeta and each carried a single red poinsettia. Their dresses were identical in style and color to that of the honor attend ant. Bridesmaids were Miss Amy Jo Callahan, sister ' of the bride groom, Patricia ,Callalian, cousin of the bridegroom, and Miss Ann Crockett of Lakeyiew. ; Given in marriage by her fath er, the bride wore a gown of sat in fashioned with a fitted bodice and covered with a cropped jack et with long tapered- sleeves which ended-fn points over the hands. The skirt,' featuring deep pleats in the front edged with lace and gathered pIdatiS'bn either side, ended in i^long^chatjel train. The gown was made by Mrs. Bob Maurer?;\)f Al^^een. The bride made !her oVirii/ flowing headpiece of illusion fitted over a crown of sat&i and lace match ing that on the edges, bf her gown. She carried a siiigle ared rose. 'The church was decorated in Christmas.. red ,iand: green. The double ring ceremony; was per formed by the Rev. David Moe, pastor, before an altar draped in red taffeta. Pre-nuptial music was present ed by Mrs. Karl Schweinfurth, organist; David Page of Southern Pines, who sang “Ava Maria,” and Danny Williams who sang “The Lord’s Prayer.” The bridegroom’s father was his h2st man. Ushers were Bill Frye, a brother of the bride; Roy Frye, Jimmy Marshburn and Charles D. Cameron, of Route 1, Cameron. Sylvia Callahan was in charge of the guest book. The bride’s mother wore a blue three-piec.3 suit and a white cor sage. The mother of the bride groom chose a green suit with brown accessories and a corsage of yellow rosebuds. Couple Receive Following th.2 ceremony, the bridal party received in the vesti bule of the church. Mrs. R. A. Evans was in charge of the decorations and Mrs. W. J. Morgan directed the wedding. Wedding Trip After a wedding trip to Pensa cola, Fla., and to Alabama and Georgia the coupia has returned to Vass. Both are 1962 graduates of the Vass-Lakeview High School, where Mrs. Callahan is employed as secretary. Her husband, who has been attending a Naval Air Technical Training Command school in Memphis, Tenn., is con tinuing his training at Brunswick, Ga. Mrs. Callahan plans to join her husband in the Spring. From Out of Town Out-of-town guests present were: John McCrummen and Mrs. Bob Maurer of Aberdeen; Miss Mildred Womble and her mother, Mrs. J. B. Womble, Sr. of, Ashley Heights; Miss Susan Irby of Wake Forest; Airman Clifford Hudson and Miss Bar bara Kolts of Michigan; Mr. and Mrs. Larry Rice of Southern Pines; Mr. and Mrs. Sam Frye, Mr. and Mrs. Grady Robinson of Candor, and Mrs. Alice O’Briant of Raeford. Rehearsal Parly Following the rehearsal on Monday night, December 23, the bride’s parents entertained at a reception at the Dixie Inn. Mrs. W. J. Morgan and Mrs. James Hudson were in charge of the oc casion and of serving. Five Winners Listed In Hollywood Hotel Bridge Club Party Table winners Tuesday at the weekly session of the Holly wood Bridge Club were Mrs. L. K. Luff, Mrs. M. Barnes, Mrs. Mabel Jacobson, Mrs. J. I. Neal and Mrs. Harry Willis. Play was at Hollywood Hotel headquarters. I MISS ETTA FAYE McKENZIE is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. I. McKenzie of Pinehurst, who announce her engagement to Jack Glenmore Marcum, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Marcum of Berea, Ky., formerly of Southern Pines. The bride-to-be is a graduate of Pinehurst High School and the Vocational School of Cosmetology in Greensboro. She is now employed with Elaine’s Hairdressers in Pinehurst. Mr. Marcum, a graduate of the Southern Pines High School, is a pre-med student at Western Kentucky State College in Bowling Green, Ky. No wedding date has been announced. This is the third year that the widow of the late Gen eral Marshall has stayed at the hotel. Other guest arrivals include: Mr. and Mrs. John Desmond of Sparta, N. J., who arrived to spend the winter months. Mrs. Philip F. White of Rockingham; Mrs. Miriam Sanders of Ran dolph, N. H. Mrs. Charles Thompson of Cambridge, N. Y., has arrived for the winter. Returned Tar Heels Are Now Settled In Southern Pines Home Now living in the home at 480 South May Street which they purchased from Mrs. Lochamy L. McLean, are Mr. and Mrs. Archie Hawkins and son, Jeff, three, who completed the move on New Year’s Eve. Mrs. McLean has moved to the ihorne of Mrs. John S. McLauchlin op. East Indiana Ave. ;Since April) 1963, when the iHawkinses ; decided to come to Soqthern Pinds from Cove City, they have been shuttling back and forth between the two towns, but now expect to put down roots here. Mr. Hawkins owns and oper ates the Hawkins Electric Com- oany situated on U. S. Highway 1 (formerly Lane’s Service Sta tion). After several years working in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. as an elec trician, he and his wife, who both are natives of Cove City, decided to return there, where he has worked independently for the past three years. Mr. Hawkins also has two sons, Kenny and Philip, who live in Kinston. The couple are Baptists and hope, now that they are no long er commuting, to join the First Baptist Church in Southern Pines. Mardi Gras Ball Planned For Jan. 31 By Sponsors The executive committee of St. Anthony’s Women’s Club met last Thursday night at the home of Mrs. L. D. McDonald to discuss final arrangements for the Mardi Gras Ball, to be held this year on January 31, in the National Guard Armory on Morganton Road. Shrine Club Has Holiday Party .’The December meeting of the Moore County Shrine Club was held at Hernando’s Hideaway on Saturday, December 28. The business of the evening was set aside, in favor of a Ladies’ Night holiday party. Following a delicious steak dinner, the 66 Nobles and their Ladies enjoyed a friendly eve ning of sociability and dancing to good music. Some of the older couples gave the younger mem bers some keen competition on the dance floor. All agreed it was a very suc cessful holiday p2ufy and ex pressed the hope that this will icome an annual event.
