Frances is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Pusser; Geraldine is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dewey Garner^ and Sharon is the (Jaughter of Mr. and Mrs. D. D. Richardson. PTA Program On Friday, March 6, the West End PTA will present a special program featuring Professional Gospel Singers from Greensboro. A free 23” T.V. Zenith console will be given away at this pro gram. You do not have to be present to win this wonderful prize. Other prizes will also be given, such as a transistor radio, steam iron and toaster. Proceeds of this program will go toward the West End PTA goals for this year. Dr. Tufts Speaker Dr. Emily Tufts spoke to the Lions Club Thursday evening in behalf of the Countywide mass oral polio vaccine clinic to be held in the afternoon of March 22. All persons six months old and over are urged' to take the vaccine as this is the only one which will immunize persons from the di sease. T. J. Baldwin was program chairman and presented the speaker. Appreciation was expres sed to Lion Baldwin for the at tractive Lion signs at either edge of the community. Zone chairman of Lions, Roy Swaringen and Lion and Mrs. Allan McDonald at tended the anniversary night of the Pinehurst Lions Club. D. E. Club Banquet The members of the Moore County Distributive Education Club entertained their employers at a banquet at the Holiday Inn on Tuesday evening. The D. E. Clubs through out the state spon sor, each year, a banquet for the purpose of showing their appreci ation to their employers, school administrators and others who aid the program. The guest speaker for the Moore 'County banquet was Clifton Belcher, coordinator of the Ex tension Division, Industrial Edu cation Center at Durham, who spoke on “Why Community Col leges.” Sammy Fishel, chairman of en tertainment, introduced the pro gram which featured Mrs. Julian Scott, Pinebluff, guitar player and singer: James Carver and Thomas Ivey, musical group: and Sheila Taylor, Aberdeen, who danced the Charleston. Daniel Boone delivered the in vocation and Harold Food, chair man of the D. E. Advisory Com mittee, responded to the welcome on behalf of the committee and the school administration. West End D. E. students assisted with programs, name tags, reception committee and other planning to make this event a success. Dr. McLean Speaks Dr. Clifton McLean of Southern Pines, chairman of World Mis sions for Fayetteville Presbytery, spoke at the Presbyterian Churcn Sunday evening. This supper meeting concluded the mission study sessions as arranged by the chairman, Mrs. Leslie Gordon. Miss Treva Auman presented the speaker and Archie Farmer gave the devotional at the meeting. Mrs. Myrton Stewart of Carthage, president of the Woman of Fayet teville Presbytery was a special guest and announced' that the Rev. George R. Cheney had been appointed chairman of the Wo men’s Work for the Presbytery. The adult classes of the Pres ‘Survey of Mission Work in India, Pakistan, Ceylon and Ne- I>al,” was given by Rev. George Cheney. Watts Auman gave “Oth er Religions Faced by Christian ity in South Asia.” Miss Treva Auman spoke on “The Church of South India and a Survey of Presbyterian, U. S. Mission Work.” Wo^row Mclnnis gave “A New Day In Nepal,” a film strip with commentary. Birthday Parties Mrs. John Thompson entertain ed for her daughter, Martha, on her seventh birthday Saturday at the recreation haU of the Presby terian Church. The guests enjoyed games and; each received party hats, balloons, mask and blow-outs for favors. They were served cup cakes, ice cream and punch for refreshments. Having fun at Martha’s party were Deborah Sutphin, Joanne Lynch, Darlene Thomas, Jennifer Clark, Deborah Saunders, Patricia Kimball, Pat Wood, Cary McDonald, Van Cole, Thad Rector, Nelson Pusser, Andy Thompson and assisting with the fun was Joanne Sutphin. Mrs. Edward Jordon entertain ed for her daughter, Debra on her birthday Friday. The guests en joyed games, basketball and look ing at the new ball (iiamond. En joying the party were Laura and Christine Sutphin, Ava Motsinger, Faye Vaughn, Susie VonCanon, Mary Jo Macinnis, Gale Carter Janice Robbins, Jean and Laura Auman and Jane Cheney. Leading Salesman The Rockingham District Office of the Pilot Life Insurance Com pany has announced that Repre sentative Gilbert Dunn was their leading salesman for 1963. At tending a district meeting in Rockingham on Wednesday from this" area were Pilot Insurance Representatives, Gilbert Dunn, H. C. Cheek, Jr., D. L. Perry and Lennie Poole and Superintendent J. M. Thomas. Personals Thomas Cranford returned home this week with Mr. and Mrs. Julian Surles whom he had been visiting in Arlington, Va. Before returning to their home, Mr. and Mrs. Surles caUed on the "amilv of a cousin, Mrs. Lucile Cranford Mullinix, who was fat ally injured in an automibile ac cident last week in Albemarle. On Thursday, Mrs. A. G. Mc Duffie, Tom Lewis and Thomas Cranford left for a visit with Mr. and Mrs. Jack Cranford in Tampa, Fla. Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Jackson, with Jane, spent Sunday in Char lotte with Bill Jackson, Jr. Bill is teaching Political Science at Charlotte College and teaches adult classes two evenings week ly. To his delight. Paschal Saun ders, a former West Ender, is a student in one of his evening classes. Hospitalized at Moore Memori al are Mrs. Rudolph Greene who has a broken leg; Willie Thomas and Mrs. Edna Kellis, who had surgery. Teresa and Judy Luck, daugh ters of Mr. and Mrs. Lonnie Luck, are patients at St. Jo seph’s Hospital. Mr. and Mrs. James Nelson White and daughter, Bennie Re nee of Newark, N. J., visited Mrs. White’s parents, the Rev. and Mrs. George R. Cheney, Jr. last week end. , Miss Jessie Merritt accompanied Franklin Farmer home for a weekend visit with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Archie Farmer Trip Highlights Highlighting the Clyde Aumans trip to California this month was an overnight visit with Mr. and Mrs. Kivette Stuart in Columbus, Ga. Kivette is a native of Jack- son Springs and for many years has been a teehnician with the Dr. Pepper Bottling Company. The Stuarts have a pretty new home and are making a definite contribution to the Baptist Church, its church school and the choir. In Albuquerque, N. M., they called Sgt and Mrs. Gerald Cheek. The Cheeks have five little girls and Gerald has recently received an award for outstanding service to his country through his duty with the United States Air Force. The Aumans were overnight guests of the John Mclnnis fam ily in Oklahoma City. They visit- ed the clinic where the three doc tor brothers, John, Thurman and Blue, practice medicine. They saw the Southminster Presbyterian Church where the three families worship and which had recently undergone extensive renovation, with John serving as chairman of the committee. Thurman and John are both elders in the church, Mrs. John Mclnnis, the former Miss Esther Hurley daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Hurley of Jackson Springs, keeps right in step with her husband, work ing in the PTA, the Order of the Eastern Star rearing the four children, and lending a helping hand wherever needed even if it is an emergency at the clinic. The three families have new homes on Country Club Drive where their Uncle, the Rev. Alec Mclnnis, is spending the winter with them. The Aumans were delighted to find' their fellow Sandhill natives making such valuable contribu tions in their various walks of life.
