The mother is the former Fran ces McLean, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. RaymoniJ McLean. The pa ternal grandparents are Mr and Mrs. Arch Blue of Route 3, Car thage. Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Apple of Lakeview announce the birth of a daughter at Moore Memorial Hospital Saturday, March 28. The infant, their first child, weighed nine pounds, one ounce. The ma ternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. June Howell, the paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Carl ton Apple of Lakeview. Easier Egg Hunts The annual traditional Easter egg hunts were held on the grounds of the local churches over the holiday weekend. Beau tiful colored and decorated eggs were brought to the hunts and divided into divisions for the nursery, kindergarten and pri mary Sunday school classes. The 26 children who attended the hunt at the Methodist Church looked for 96 eggs. Joe Lassiter and Lynette Foster were prize winners from the nursery and kindergarten classes for finding the most. Craig Cameron and Kathy Danley took the prize in the primary-junior division. Prior to the hiding, a judging was held, with prizes going to Charles Brewer and his sister, Sherry, for the best decorated eggs. Craig Cameron received a prize for the most original. Refreshments served by Mrs. Horace Mullinix were enjoyed following the hunt. Some twenty-five children at tended the hunt at the Presbyte rian Church Saturday afternoon. Ann Eoggs of Sanford, who at tends church here every Sunday with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Boggs and brothers Stevie and Ronnie won the prize for finding the most. The Baptist church had its an nual egg hunt and picnic supper Sunday evening. Following an Easter program at the Church of God Sunday morning the children enjoyed a hunt for Easter eggs. Infant Baptism During the worship service at the Vass Methodist Church Sun day morning, The Rev. David Moe, pastor, administered the sac rament of infant baptism to Mitchell Allen Coe, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Coe, and Glenn Scott Foster, son of Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Foster. Included was the service for the reception and recognition of chil dren as members. Received, at tended by their parents, were Jimmy Mullinix, son of Mr. and Mrs. Horace Mullinix; David Gris som, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Grissom; and Mike Coe, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Coe. Mike’s grandmother, Mrs. Lizzie Scott, stood with his pEurents. Bridal Shower Mrs. Lacy McRae and her daughter, Mrs. Glenn McMillan of Sanford, entertained at a mis cellaneous bridal shower Satur day night in the basement of the Baptist Church. Guest of honor was Mrs. George (Butch) Griffin, who before her recent marriage was Miss Lynda Winfrey, daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Win frey of Clyde. The basement was decorated in pink and white. The refreshment table was centered with an ar rangement of pink camellias. A white umbrella with a bow of pink ribbon was the centerpiece for the gift table. Mrs. Ralph An derson was in charge of the deco rations. Several games were play ed with prizes going to Nelda Reynolds, Mrs. S. R. Smith and Mrs. Sam Burwell. Mrs. Griffin was the recipient of many love ly and useful gifts, after which punch, cake squares, and m.ints were served to the 25 guests pres ent. Out-of-town guests were: Mrs. D. L. Patterson, Mrs. J. E. Cock- man and Nelda Reynolds all of Carthage. Sunrise Service The annual Community Sunrise Service was held at the Baptist Church Sunday morning. The Rev. H. L. Wilson, Presbyterian pastor, brought the message. Spe cial music was presented by the Vass-Lakevlew Glee Club. Entertain Wives Members of the Vass volunteer Fire Department entertained their wives at a fish supper Friday night at the Fire Station. Typical of firemen, they answered a fire alarm at White Hill just as sup per was being served. Present were Mr. and Mrs. Pete Mash- burn and son, William; Mr. and Mrs. Preston Boggs, Mr. and Mrs. P. T. Officiating were: The Rev. Ed Dupree, Yates-Thagard Baptist Church; the Rev. Daniel Norman, Lakeview Presbyterian Church: and the Rev. Ernest Poston, Beth lehem Church. The choir was composed of members of the choirs of each church participating in the serv ices. This was the second annual Easter Service at Whispering Pines. Ladies' Golf Results of last week’s regular play of the Whispering Pines Ladies Golf Association were: Low Putts, Class “A”—^Mrs. Nemo Peart; Low Putts, Class “B”— Mrs. Bettye Garneau; Low Net, Class “A”—Mrs. Anne M. Bate man; and Low Net, Class “B”— Mrs. Emily Schack. Avery Beck, pro, and Larry Beck, assistant pro, of WJiispering Pines Country Club, played last week in the Azalea Open golf tournament at Wilmington. They missed the “cut-off” by two and one, respectively. Don Morse is recuperating nice ly at his home on ’Thagard’s Lake after undergoing heart surgery re cently in Boston, Mass. Mr. Morse returned home last week. Col. N. J. Beaudrias and son, Michael, of Olmsted Air Force Base, Pa., were recent guests of Col. and Mrs. H. A. Sears at their home on Spring Valley Lake. Mrs. Lacy McRae president, presided. Mrs. Evans led the devotion and the mem bers joined in group singing. Mrs. Jean Hubbard, county agent, gave a demonstration for wall finishes and colors.
