Steele Street BEST IN PAINTS • BEST IN COLORS ' BEST IN SERVICE Southern Pines Recorders Court Four Pinehurst youths received suspended sentences of two years on the roads and one of them lost his driver’s license, in Southern Pines Recorder’s Coprt last week, following their arrest for an al leged attempted br6ak-in at the local A & P Super Market. Judge W. Harry FuUenwider was on thu bench for the regular Wed nesday session. Surprised by Sergeant Beck at the rear of the building, they had fled in a car that led the of ficer on a high-speed chase be fore the youths were captured. James Dwight Frye, 19, the driver of the car, was charged in one warrant with conspiracy, and in another with careless and reckless driving and failure to stop for an officer’s red light and siren. Robert Anthony Moon, Jimmy R. Frye and Jerry Frye, the oth er three youths involved, were each charged with conspiracy, in connection with the alleged break-in attempt but were per mitted to plead guilty to forcible trespass. Except for the revocation of James Dwight Frye’s driver’s li cense, all four recived identical sentences: two years on the roads, suspended on payment of the court costs, with stipulation that they be under the supervi sion of the State probation offi cer for two years and also that they be home by 10 p. m. each night, until the times changed by the probation officer. Two drunken driving cases called last week are each going to Superior Court. Cleo Martin of Route 2, San ford charged with drunken driv ing and transporting alcoholic beverage with seal broken, was sentenced to pay $100 fine and costs and surrender driver’s li cense. Appeal to Superior Court was entered and bond was set at $200. Vernon Preston Davis of Route 1, Chapel Hill, charged with drunken driving, asked for a jury trial before any evidence was heard and the case was transfer red to Superior Court for trial. Both cases will be set for the August term. other defendant who had been tried the previous week for assault and assault on a female, receiv ing concurrent sentences of 12 months on the roads in each case, suspended on payment of costs and placing of defendant ander supervision of the State proba tion officer, was in court last week charged with larceny of a bicycle. C., speeding 70 in 55 zone, improper passing, $25 and costs; James H. Burg, Columbia, S. C., speeding 75 in 60 zone, $15 and costs; Fairley A. Burke, New York, N. Y., speeding 60 in 35 zone, $25 and costs. Warren McNeill, Jr., Sanford, speeding 70 in 60 zone, $10 and costs; Leo Jenkins, Burlington, speeding 65 in 55 zone, $10 and costs; Nicholas Verren Cox, San ford, speeding 70 in 60 zone, $10 \ and costs; Curtis Hall, Aberdeen, public nuisance, prayer for judg ment continued on payment of costs and on condition he not go back on premises of prosecuting witness unless invited; Charley Wells, non-support, until further order of the court, defendant was instructed to take his paycheck to the clerk of court’s office each week, to be divided equally be tween him and his wife, and from her portion, $1 per week to be deducted until court costs are paid; Gerald S. Rush, Robbins AFB, Ga., speeding 75 in 60 zone, $15 and costs. Ph. 695-8501 Charged with public drunken ness, listed with penalties im posed, were: Everett Eugene Miller, $10 and costs; Dwight Terry (two cases) and James Lewis, each one month on the roads, suspended for six months on payment of the costs and on condition he not be convicted of a similar offense for six months (Terry sentences not to run con currently) ; Henry Barker Mc-j Donald (also charged with pos session of 20 per cent wine with seal broken), $5 and costs, wine to be destroyed; Maurice Mc Kenzie (also charged with pos session of taxpaid liquor with seal broken), prayer for judg ment continued on payment of costs, on information that de- fendent was to submit himself to a hospital for treatment. Several first offenders chose to walk to Howard Johnson’s Restaurant and back, in place of paying a fine, while paying court costs. With offenses charg ed, they were; Janet Leigh Sav age, speeding 45 in 35 zone; Ed ward Hastings Hawks, Manly, speeding 50 in 35 zone, disobey ing stop sign; James Paul Mc Adams, speeding 45 in 35 zone; James R.
