Ring, 30-year-old tobacco far mer who has been driving in the stock car races about two years, won in “No. 13,” a 1953 Chevrolet owned by Cecil Hutch inson of Aberdeen. Ring and “No. 13” had stayed in second place in the 17 - car field. However, a protest by Hutchinson resulted in inspection by the judges, and a ruling that the lead car won illegally. Hutchinson, who is chef at the Southern Pines Country Club, with the hobby of stock car races, owns two cars. Ring gen erally drives No. 26, a 1950 Ply mouth, while “Little Danny” Richmond, Hutchinson’s son-in- law, drives No. 13. “Little Danny” and his wife went away for the weekend of the Fourth. Hutchinson’s cars have three co-sponsors—Taylor Motors, Ltd., and Hicks Furniture Co. of Aber deen, also the “B.J.T.” sandwich and drinks place near Rocking ham. He gives credit for his cars’ success not only to the drivers but to James Gardner, who has an auto repair shop near Pine- bluff.
