Ay- cock, new pastor of West End Methodist Church moved into the parsonage last Thursday from Saxapahaw, in the Burling ton District, where Mr. Aycock has served for the past four years. They have two children, Sarah Katherine (Kathy), 2%, and John Charles, five months old. Mr. Aycock is a native of Lit tleton, and a graduate of High Point College and the Duke Divinity School. He has served the following ^pastorates: associate in Rocky Mount; Scotland Neck, Lumberton Charge, Ellerbe and Saxapahaw. He is a Mason and was a member of the Saxapahaw Exchange Club. He was a mem ber of the Conference Commis sion on Worship for the past four years Mrs. Aycock is the former Sarah Frances Thompson of Rowland. She attended Averette College in Danville, Va., and graduated from Columbia Bible College in IMPORTANT NOTICE ! She served as Director of Christian Education in Rowland, after graduating from college, and later taught Bible in the public schools at Fairmont and Ellerbe. She was a member of the choir, taught the Mixed Adulf Sunday School Class and was active in the Woman’s Society of Christian Service in the Saxapahaw Church. Lion Officers Installed Harris Blake, past president of the Pinehurst Lions Club, install ed the officers of the local Lions Club at the Thursday evening meeting. The officers for 1964- 65, are president, W- H. Dicker- son; first vice president, Billy McKenzie; second vice president; T. J. Baldwin; third vice presi dent, George R. Cheney; secre tary-treasurer, Earl Auman; tail- twister, Neil Furr; lion tamer, Clyde Auman; directors: Harold Wood, Willis Austin; Allan Me Donald and Earl Auman. The officers of the Woman’s Society of Christian Service were installed at a recent Sunday morning worship service. To serve the Church Women for ’64- ’65 are: president, Mrs. A. J. Hanner; vice president, Mrs. John Branson; secretary, Mrs. Ben Brewer; treasurer, Mrs. Ern est Tart. Secretaries are: social relation, Mrs. 'Woodrow Conrad; promotion, Mrs. Francis Currie, Jr.; missionary education and service, Mrs. M. J. Davis; student work, Mrs. Paul Tart; youth work, Mrs. W. M. Chriscoe, Jr.; children’s work, Mrs. James Rec tor; literature and publication, Mrs. Harold Wood; and supply work, Mrs. D. D. Richardson. Speaker Elder W. Houston Black oif Southern Pines will speak to the Interdenominational Young Peo ple on Sunday evening at the Presbyterian Church. He will use a flip chart to illustrate “The Game of Life.’’ The Senior High Fellowship will be hosts to the supper meeting, which will be at 6 o’clock. H. D. Club Program Mrs. Betty Morgan, Assistant County Home Economics Agent, presented a program, “Make Your Own Bedspreads,” at the Holly Grove Home Demonstra tion Club, Friday evening. Mrs. Bill Poley was hostess to the club, and Mrs. Velma Currie pre sided at the meeting. She also gave the devotional. Plans were made for recreation for club members and their families to be held August 22, with a picnic supper at 6 o’clock at the Aber deen Lake. Return Home After a 10-day visit with rela tives here, Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Ritter left Monday by way of Washington, D. C., to their home at Fond-du-Lac, Wis. Cecil is em ployed with the Postal Service in that city. He also is serving as chairman of the Board of Stew ards in the Methodist Church. Mrs. Ritter is also active in the Woman’s Society of Christian Service. Mr. and Mrs. Byron Richardson of Pinehurst, honor ed Mr. and Mrs. Ritter at a fam ily dinner party Saturday eve ning. Baptised The three grandsons of Mr. and Mrs. Hawley Poole received infant baptism Saturday after noon at the Poole home in the presence of the immediate fam ily and close friends. The Rev. George Cheney, Jr. performed the ceremony assisted by the grandfather. Elder Hawley Poole, for Samuel Hawley Poole, Jr., and Mark Nelson Poole, sons of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Poole of High Point and Robert Bruce Davis, son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Davis of Rappahanock, Va. Promoted Jimmie R. Lucas, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Lucas, has been promoted to Sergeant at the USA Electronic Proving Ground at Fort Huachuca, Ariz. Jim, a graduate of West End High School, entered service in Jan uary of 1962, received his basic training at Fort Jackson, S. C., and was graduated from the U. S. Army Signal School at Fort Monmonth, N. J. Good things come in pairs for the Lucases. Their daughter, Carol, who is Mrs. Bob Killian of Greensboro, was pictured in the last week’s Greensboro paper, after she was elected president of Alpha O’ Michron, a new chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa. Carol is an honor English teacher at Page Senior High School in Greensboor. Mrs. Killian, Mrs. Lucas, Mrs. R. D. Rushing, and Mrs. Billy Rushing vacationed Tuesday until Thurs day at Cherry Grove Beach. They were joined on Wednesday by J. T. Lucas and Roscoe Rush ing. Fourth Win The race car owned by Mr. and Mrs. Roscoe Rushing was again the first place winner of the Sportsman Division at the Biscoe Speedway. Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Rushing of Greensboro were weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. Rushing, and were present to see the car make its fourth consecu tive win. Personals Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Caddell of Eagle Springs and Mr. and Mrs. Billy Rushing spent the week at Cherry Grove Beach, S. C. The Womack family had a get- together Sunday evening for a picnic supper, honoring their mother, Mrs. Beulah Womack of Carthage, at the Earl Auman home. Here for the occasion were Mr. and Mrs. Buck Womack of Charlotte; Mr. and Mrs. Gentry Womack of Charlotte; Mr. and Mrs. Gentry Womack and son. Bill, of Greensboro; Mr. and Mrs. Monk Womack and Freddy; Mr. and Mrs. Rudy Womack, all of Carthage; Mrs. Womack, and the Earl Auman family. Seeing is believing, that Cali fornia grapes will grow in North Carolina. Roscoe Rushing has a vine about five years old at his store, and several bunches of the grapes can be seen, handing from the vine. Mrs. Hanner, mother of A. J. Hanner, with whom she makes her home, is a patient at St. Jo seph’s Hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Pucket of Troy visited Mrs. E. G. Puckett on Sunday. Mrs. Mary Wilson, with Susie, of High Point, spent the weekend with the Bill Cagles. Mrs. Edith Brewer was the Sunday guest of Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Jackson. The Howard Greene family is spending the week at Carolina Beach. The Lloyd Auman family visit ed his mother, Mrs. Claude Au man, for the weekend. Beth Au man is visiting Laura Auman this week. Kathy Cole and Verona Cole had a fourth of July party at their home, with the following guests present: Jane Cheney, Laura Sutphin, Susie VonCanon, Brenda Dunn, Jeannie Donald son, Jean, and Laura Auman; also, Rita and Van Cole. Sandra Hartsell is visiting her sister-in-law, Mrs. Harvey Hart sell, this week in Thomasville, Ala. David and Richard Wilson at tended the funeral last week for a cousin, Frank Watt, of Charlotte. At Cherry Grove Beach. S. C. for the weekend were Gary Rushing, Kenneth Green of Pem broke State College; Wayne Car ter, Gilbert Rushing, Phillip Green, Bobby Blake and Donald Parmer. Mr. and Mrs. John Williams of Palakta, Fla., spent last week with Mr. and Mrs. Colon Wil liams. They were overnight guests of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Medlin in Pinehurst. Also visit ing the Williamses for the week end, were Mrs. C. D. Wright, and Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Snead, with Rebecca and Michael, all of Bish op ville, S. C. Michael Wilson is recuperating nicely at home, following hospi talization at Memorial Hospital in Charlotte. Ray Wilson, with his wife and two children, is on furlough with his parents after being stationed in Germany. Mr. and Mrs. John Thompson and Mrs. E. L. Sutphin attended funeral services Wednesday for their uncle, Boyce Stowe, at the McEven Funeral Home in Char lotte and burial at Steele Creek Cemetery.
