(Humphrey photo) By PATRICIA KAYLOR Association Entertains The Whispering Pines Ladies Golf Association entertained its members and invited as special guests all those persons who as sisted them during the recent N. C. Women’s GoH Association Championship. The affair was held last Saturday evening at the Whispering Pines Golf and Coun try Club. After a social hour, the pres ident of the Ladies Association and past state tournament chair man, Mrs. D. L. Bateman, in an informal talk thanked all those who had helped, and noted special thanks to A. B. Hardee and Avery Beck, pro, for their aid and cooperation. Immediately following Mrs. Bateman’s address, Mrs. Edgar Holt led the group in singing “Happy Anniversary’’ to Mr. and Mrs. A. B Hardee, who were cel ebrating their 22nd wedding an niversary. Mr. and Mrs. Hardee wore fresh Hawaiian leis made of orchids. The leis had been sent to them by their daughter, Mar tha Hoell Hardee, who is attend ing the summer session at the University *of Hawaii. The guests then enjoyed a de licious buffet supper. Twilight Tournament Winners of last Friday’s Twi light Tournament of the Whis pering Pines Golf Club were Mrs. Gaither (Helen) Edwards and Ed Comer. The play was a 9-hole, Poker Hand event. Mike Souchak Mr. and Mrs. Mike Souchak of Durham have recently purchased property at Whispering Pines. Mr. Souchak is a well-known golf professional and is presently touring the summer circuit. New Residents Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Smith of Washington, D. C., moved into their new home on Thagard’s Lake last week. Mr. Smith is rC' tired and was formerly associa ted with the Interstate Com merce Commission. Ladies Golf Results Regular play last week of the Whispering Pines Ladies Gtoif Association was a Mystery play event. Winners were: Class A, Mrs. Mildred Clemmer; Class B, Mrs. Bettye Garneau. Low Putts, Class A, Mrs. Do Morse; Class B, Mrs. Emily Schack. Avery Beck Plays Pro-Am Avery Beck, golf pro at Whis pering Pines Country Club, re turned home Monday evening after playing the Shaw Air Force Base Pro-Am Tournament, Mr. Beck placed third as Low Pro and his team also placed third. FORMER ROBBINS TEACHER— When John Hemmer of Pinehurst, well known press photo grapher, visited the “Horn in the West” out door drama at Boone recently, he snapped this photo of a former Moore County resident— Glenn Causey, starring in the drama as Daniel Boone. Several years ago Mr. Causey was on the faculty of Elise High School at Robbins. He has played Boone in the drama for the past 13 seasons and is shown here in his famous “bear toting” scene. His home is now in Greens boro and he teaches at Arlington, Va. Singletary. HD Club Meets The Pinebluff Home Demon stration Club held its monthly meeting Thursday, July 9. Mrs. Estelle Griffin, vice president conducted the meeting in the ab sence of Mrs. Harry Charles, president. After a short business session, the meeting was turned over to Mrs Betty Morgan who brought an interesting lesson on “Making Bedspreads.” A pleasant social hour was enjoyed by all.
