The 21 guests, including .seven mothers, were seiwed hot dOgs, potato chips, soft drinks and birthday cake by Mrs. Acker. MRS. Lamb after a trip to New York dity where they spent two days at the Wprld’s Fair and a day seeing the sights, including a boat thp around the City, a visit to the United Nations and to Rockefeller Center. While they were out of town, their daughter, Kathy, visited her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Jo seph H. Hardison in Raleigh, Vaughn, their son, is on the Na tional Boy Scout Jamboree at Valley Forge, Pa., and is expect ed to return home on Friday. ! Mrs. Donald Scott left this week to drive Miss Florence Manning to Leesburg, Va., where she wiU visit and will then go to Washington, D. C. for a visit be fore returning home. .o Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Walter, with their son, Larry, ,Jr„,; and daughter, Jean, have returned to their home in Slatersyillle,, R* I. after a two weeks’ visit with Mrs. Walter^s father and sister, Walter E. Blue and Mrs. Jean Edson, at their home on Ashe street, Walter Blue, Jr., with his wife and children, came down from Greensboro for a brief visit while they were here. Mrs. Fowell Alexander, who has been attending summer school at Methodist College in Fa.vetteville, has returned to' her horpe on Midland Road for the remainder of summer vacation. Mrs. Alexander is a member of the, Aberdeen school faculty. Mr. and Mrs. John G, Schulz have. returiled ,to their home in Oyster Bay, L. I. after a week’s stay at their home at Skyline. Their son, Peter, who has been attending summejr school at State College, Raleigh, accompanied them Peter .was a student at Wingate College last year, but plans to transfer to State this fall Mrs. W. North Carolina Chiropractic Association Mrs. William Donovan, who also attended the meeting as cor responding secretary, will serve on the state committee. This special events committee will be in charge of New Year’s Eve Balls throughout the state. In- North Carolina, Teen Age Balls will take 'place on New Year’s Eve. The dances will be patterned' after the Ball held in Grand Central Statioh last year, and under Mrs. Winthrop Rocke feller’s chairmanship, will be come an annual event. Proceeds will be given to the Careers Committee to be used to establish new programs in schools and colleges to enable students to enter - the field of Mental Health. Frank Smith’s home on Country Club Drive. Colohel Smith and his son, Marsh, are now' living on Halcyon Drive. Mt. and Mrs. Carnes,' both born iind raised in Georgia, have lived for the past 25 years in St. Augustine Where he has been a furniture dealer, head of the Carnes Furniture Company. The couple are here briefly now, overseeing the beginnings of proposed redecorations of their newly acquired property. Both are golfers and members of the Southern Pines Country Club. Mr. and Mrs. Norris Edge and children, Terry and Ronald, spent last week in New York City, sightseeing and attending the World’s Fair. They returned home by Washington, where they also made a tour of the city’s most important spots, in cluding a visit to Arlington. Mr. and Mrs. Vance Derby and children. Tommy and Katie, left Tuesday for Waynesville for a few days vacation at the Pied mont Inn. Joining them will be their two older daughters, Judy and Penny, who have been at Camp Ton-A-Wandah in Hender sonville for several weeks. Gloria and Kathy VanderVoort, Janet Ponzer, Susan Trudell and Susie Chandler returned to their homes last Friday after two weeks’ vacation at Camp Mary Atkinson, a Girl Scout camp be tween Raleigh and Selma. Lucin da Brogden, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. O. Brogden, is attending the camp presently for two weeks. Miss Susan Huntley returned home Saturday from Wilming ton, where she spent the past two weeks at a Girl Scout waterfront camp and completed work on a Red Cross Life-saving course. Mrs. John Ponzer and daugh ter, Janet, went to Hendersonville today to bring back Grace Pon zer, who has been at Camp Ton- A-'Wandah for several weeks. Robin Johnson of Aberdeen, who has also been at camp there, will fly from Asheville to Virginia Beach to join her family, the Lawrence Johnsons. The John sons are spending the month at the Camp cottage. Mr. and Mrs. John S. Creech and children, Johnny and Miri am, have returned to their home in Knollwood after a vacation at his parents’ cottage at Paw ley’s Island, S. C. They also spent several days with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fulton B. Creech, in Sumter, and with her mother, Mrs. W. G. Payne in Kings- tree. Mr. Creech’s aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Springmeyer of Pompano Beach, Fla. visited them one day last week, coming especially to see their grandniece Miriam, Mrs. Springmeyer’s namesake. Also, “guests for the day” were Dr. and Mrs. Kitchen of Sumter. Mrs. Jewel Hall and daughter, Bobbie Ann, spent several days in Richmond, Va. recently on a shopping trip. They returned by Durham for a brief visit with Miss Loree Keen, former teach er in the East Southern Pines school; Mr. 'and Mrs. Dan S. Ray spent the weekend at Cherry Grove Beach, S. C., guests of his sister, Mrs. O. F. Taylor. Mrs. Leon Seymour returned Saturday from Glastonbury, Ct., where she spent a week with her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. John Sesnnour. Miss LurMne Willis of Winston- Salem is spending the week with Miss Helen Butler at her home, Valhalla. Overnight guest last Wednes-i day of the Howard Butlers at their home in Weymouth Heights was Birch Brooks, retired engin eer, of Terre Haute, Ind. Mrs. J. I. Neal has returned to her home on Midland Road after! a three week’s visit with her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and! Mrs. William Tackabery and fara-, ily„ in Libertyville. Ill. Mrs. Neals twin sister, Mrs. R. C. Rush, Sr., of Sanford, accohipan- ied her on the trip, which was made by plane. Th6y report a de lightful visit with Becky and her family. After their return to North Carolina, Mrs. Neal visited her sister in Sanford for several days. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Wrenn of Winter Park, Fla. arrived Tues day to be guests this week of their daughter,' Mrs. William C. Deaton, and her family at their residence on Barber road. Guests this week of the John G. Ostroms at their cottage at Pawley’s Island include Mr. and Mrs. Jfihn C. McConpell, Mr. and Mrs. deofge Leonard and Mr, and Mrs. John Von Schlegell. Mr. and Mrs. Robert C. Fisher werg their guests last Week, and the week before; Mrs. Henry A. Page, Jr. and Mrs. Edgar Ewing Were with them. Mrs. Page left this week for her summer camp at Jackson Hole, Wyo. Miss Louise Chalk of Hertford, spent last week with her nephew, Howard Broughton, and his fam ily at their home in Knollwood. The Broughtons and Mr. and Mrs Richard Futrell of Tarborq are going to Pawley’s Island for the weekend Friday. Mr. and Mrs,. Warren Smith have their young granddaughter, Bonnie Smith, of Richmond, Va, with them this week, Bonnie’s father, Warren Smith, Jr., brought her down and spent the weekend , with his parents, and will return for her this weekend Mr. and Mrs. Ernest L. Barber have their two granddaughters, Peggy and Betsy McLaney, of Charlotte as their guests this week at their home on Coimtry Club Drive. The Barbers spent last week in Try on at the Barber reunion, and at Pulaski, Va., vis iting their younger daugh^r, Lil lian, (Mrs. Thomas Hall^) and her family. Mrs. McLaney (Betty Barber) was here last weekend when she brought the tWo girls for a visit. Rodney Pleasants left' Sunday for Chapel Hill to attend second semester summer school at the University. Rodney, a rising sophomore there, has been work ing with the Carolina Power and Light Company for the past six -weeks. Robert S. Koons, Jr. is here from Webster Grove, Mo., and will be visiting his fiance. Miss Karen McKenzie, and her par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Mc Kenzie, until his August 1 wed ding to Miss McKenzie. Tom Wicker and his two chil dren, Cameron and Gray, were in Southern Pines visiting relatives on Monday. Tom was returning to Washington, D. C., from San Francisco, where he covered the Republican Convention for the New York Times, of which he is Washington correspondent. SHANNON BROFtHY Their first child, a daughter, was boim Jilly 7 to Airman 2lc and Mrs. Patrick Brophy'at St. Josejih’s Hospital. The baby weighed seven pounds 15 Vz ounces at birth, and has been named Shannon Theresa. The Brophys live at 310 North Ben nett Street. Airman Brophy is stationed at Pope AFB. Jack Taylor, Jr. And Family Moved Here From Aberdeen More or less settled this week into the house which they have leased at 330 East Massachusetts Avenue, are Mr. and Mrs. Jack M. Taylor, Jr. and their daugh ters. Elizabeth, three, and Su zanne, two. The family moved Saturday from Aberdeen, where they have been living with Mr. Taylor’s parents. Formerly associated with his father in the Taylor Chemical Company, Aberdeen, Jack, Jr. is now with the W. R. Bonsai Com pany, commuting to work at their offices in Milesville. Both Mr. Taylor and his wife, the former Roberta von Wilier of Cleveland, Ohio, whom he met at Chapel Hill when they were students at UNC, are golfers, though she says modestly, she “just plays, and that’s all.” The couple are members of Emmanuel Episcopal Church here. Winners Of Two Par Seekers Tourneys Named Last week’s low net tourna ment played July 15 by the Par- Seekers of the Southern Pines Country Club, was won by Mrs. Carlos Fry of Carthage. Tied for second were Mrs. Roy Grinnell and Mrs. William Gantt. In the tournament played yes terday, Wednesday, those rriem- bers with handicaps of 20 and un der played from the yellow markers only. Low gross in the event was won by Mrs. T. C. Worth, Jr. and last week’s win ner, Mrs Fry, tied for runner-up spot with Mrs. Jack, Hauser. The event planned for next week will be a half of handicap for par three and par four holes contest. Four E3P Teachers In Summer Sessions At UNC, Chapel Hill Four members of the East Southern Pines faculty, three of them married and with fam ilies, are improving the summer months working toward master’s degrees at the University of North Carolina. Mrs. Austin Latimer is one of 101 teachers taking part in the Eighth National Science Founda-. tion Summer Institute for High School Teachers of Science and Mathematics at UNC,: under grants of from $450 tb $1000, The other local teachers are Mrs. John McPhaul, high school guidance counselor. Miss Annie Margaret Brewer, on the junior high faculty, and Mrs. N. J. Glenn, sixth grade teacher. Hollywood Bridge Club Discontinues Meetings Till Fall The Hollywood Bridge Club, disbanding until September, met for their final weekly session of the summer Tuesday afternoon at Hollywood Hotel headquart ers. Receiving prizes at bridge were Mrs. Elden Hartshorn and Miss Birdilia Bair. Bolivia win ners were Miss Clara Bell and Mrs. Frank Hale.
