Sept 25, at 8 o’clock in the high school auditorium. The partici pants, sponsored by a local busi ness firm are; Landa Bennett, Laura Sutphin, Suzie VonCanon, Dianne Richardson, Gale Brewer,' Dorothy Caddell, Connie Luck,' Tesessa Luck, Judee Luck, Vir ginia Davis, Mildred Pack, Joyce Blue, Janet Markham, Heath' Hanner, Delores Brewer, Edna, Saunders, Janice McLean, Kay j Brown, Martha Richardson,! Charlene Newman. | In addition to the winners of | Miss West End, first runner-up j and Miss Congeniality titles, there will also be a prize for the most talented. Talent entries in clude singing, piano solos, panto mimes, dancing and readings. | Stephen Lisk, president of the. Student Body, will be the master of ceremonies. He will entertain with his imitation of Mark An thony. ' Escorts will be Harry Lewis, j Parks Blake, Pete Garner, and Kenneth Thompson. Life Membership Given At the Sunday morning wor ship service at the Presbyterian Church, Mrs. Floyd Upole and Mrs John H. McCaskill were awarded Life Memberships by the Women of the Church. Mrs. J. Hawley Poole also received the award on Wednesday evening at her home. This honor was conferred upon these members in grateful recog nition for faithful service in the work of the church. The recipient received a pin and a certificate of recognition. The membership fund is being used to finance representatives and other mem bers of the staff of the Board of Women’s Work. The presentation was made by Mrs. M. C. McDon ald, assisted by Miss Bert Mc- Crummen. Shower Mrs. Young Michael O’Connor of Chapel Hill, who before her recent marriage, was Miss Sher rie Upole, was honored Monday evening with a shower by the Women of the Presbyterian Church. A lace cloth over pink taffeta was used on the serving table which was centered with bridal motifs. Mrs. E. R. Outland presided at the punch bowl. The guests were served individually iced bridal cakes, nuts and mints by Mrs. Hurley Cheek, Miss Grace Donaldson, and Mrs. Lacy Williams. Special guests for the occasion were Mrs. J. M. O’Con nor and Miss Judy Upole of Char lotte and Mrs. D. H. Whitesell of Eastwood. Mrs. George Cheney presented the program at the meeting and Mrs. M. C. McDon ald, Jr. gave the Bible study from Psalms. Rally Day Rally Day will be observed next Sunday, September 27, at the Presbyterian Church School. A program will be presented by members of the Senior High Fel lowship directed by Mrs. Harold Markham. School of Dance Janet Markham and Heath Hanner will open their school of dance, “Jari-Hea,” beginning Oc tober 3 at the Hanner home. Both girls have studied dancing for eight years. They began with Martha Aden and are now stu dents of Mrs. Pat Starnes. Janet and Heath attended the Dance Caravan in Atlanta, Ga. in 1963, where they had lessons from some of the outstanding dancers in the nation. Heath attended the Dance Caravan in Columbia, S. C. this summer, where she re ceived further instructions from outstanding teachers. AU chil dren who are interested in danc- i{ng instruction, please register at the school on Saturday after noon from 2-4, with begin ning age 4 years. Collegian Speaks Miss Juanita Bost, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John W. Bost of Eagle Springs, spoke to the psychology class on Friday morning concerning her studies at college. The class, consisting mostly of seniors, asked ques tions on the aspects of College life in which they were most interested. Juanita is a senior at Duke University and is major ing in Political Science. While at Duke, she has been a Fresh man Adviser, and this year she is on the House Judicial Com mittee. After graduation, she hopes to work with the State Government in Raleigh. Latymen Conduct Service The Rev. J. D.
