crewman wings upon being des
ignated an aircrewman in the
. Gruman “Trader” aircraft.
I He is serving with Fleet Tacti-
1 cal Support Squadron 40, at the
I Naval Air Station, Norfolk, Va.
His duties include: maintaining
aircraft fuselages and wings;
making minor repairs to exteri
ors of aircraft; installing rivets;
' and painting aircraft.
I A graduate of West End High
School, Joyce entered the Navy
in December, 1961.

Succumbs At 62
Samuel Turner Fields, 62, of
Route 3, Carthage, died Monday.
Funeral services were conducted
at Culdee Presbyterian Church
near Pinehurst at 3 pm Tuesday
by the Rev. W. K. Fitch, Jr., as
sisted by the Rev. W. S. Golden.
Burial was in the church ceme
tery.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs.
Kittle Blue Fields; two daugh
ters, Mrs. Howard Frye, Jr. of
Princeton and Mrs. David Ham
mond of Atlanta, Ga.; two sons,
Tom of Newport News,. Va., and
Jim Fields of Morehead City; one
sister, Mrs. S. E. Battley of Car
thage; one brother, George Fields
of Carthage; and 10 grandchil
dren.
