Paving Near ABC Store Result Of Three-Way Effort In a recent joint effort be tween the Town of Southern Pines, the County ABC author ities, and John C. iParrish of Southern Pines, the alley, park ing lot and area behind the ABC store on Connecticut Ave. have been paved and beautified. Par rish, owner of the ABC proper ty, cooperated with the Town and ABC board in renovating the area between the ABC build ing and the Carolina Power and Light Company buiiding. The town handled the paving of the alley which runs from Connecticut Ave. beside the ABC building, and the ABC authori ties assumed the project of pav ing the parking lot. Parish noted that during the paving several landmarks of historic significance were uncov ered and he reported to The Pilot that during the 1890’s and before the property he now owns was used by the late N. M. Sugg for feeding and watering cattle. The foundations of the feeding trough were uncovered during the re cent improvement. A stable for the cattle was located across the street on what now is the Colo nial store parking lot. Parrish also recalled to mind that the old Southern Pines jail was situated on a portion of the lot which is now paved for ABC store pa trons.
