Henry Johnson. The David Camerons gave a family reunion luncheon after wards at their home. Guests in cluded Mr. and Mrs. Richard Rogers of Wilmington, Mrs. Cam eron’s parents; the Shields Cam erons, Mr. and Mrs. W. G. Mor- decai, Jr. and two children, Mr. and Mrs. John G. BRIDE-ELECT OF DECEMBER 12 IS HONOR GUEST AT SHOWER FRIDAY Miss Carolyn White who will become the bride of James Phillips of Cameron December 12, was the guest of honor at a bridal shower given at the home of Mrs. John D. Stephenson of North May Street, Friday eve ning. Upon her arrival, Carolyn was presented with a corsage which complemented the soft blue of the wool sheath she wore. After games had been played' and prizes awarded to the win ners, the honoree opened her shower gifts and acknowledged them. Mrs. Stephenson then ushered her guests into the dining room where they found a table deco rated in autumn leaves over a white cloth and centered with a brides cake iced in white and topped' with miniature wedding bells. The cake was flanked by tiered candelabra and an arrange ment of autumn flowers. Mrs. Bert Phillips, father of the pro spective bridegroom, presided at the punch table. Mrs. John E. 'White, mother of the bride, Mrs. Bert Phillips of Cameron, Mrs. W. S. Eckersley of Pinebluff, grandmother of the bride, Mrs. Joe Reardon, Mrs. Silas Eudy, Mrs. J. W. The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. F. Hoke Pollock, Stephanie at tends the Southern Pines High School where she is a senior. She has exhibited her qualities of good citizenship, said a Chap ter spokesman, through her parti cipation in varied activities. She has been a marshal, editor of the school newspaper, presi dent of a Scout troop; has held presidential and other offices in a youth group. Stephanie is a member of the Student Council, Beta, Library, Pep, and Spanish Clubs. She sings with the choir of Emmanuel Episcopal Church and has served as assistant troop lead er of a younger Scout troop and as a summer school teacher. Looking Ahead The Southern Pines Methodist Church is having a special study on the Book of Genesis, Novem ber 22 and 29, from 3-5 pm. S. 1 South Southern Pines Junior Scouts See Special Program At Planetarium Girl Scout Junior Troop 621 on Saturday attended a special Scout program “Skyways,” at the Morehead Planetarium in Chapel Hill. The girls were ac companied by their leader, Mrs. Vance Derby, and several other adults. The show was designed to help those in the audience recognize the planets and constellations and especially, what to look for during the month of November. On Tuesday, Mrs. Derby, Mrs. Robert Ballard, Mrs. Richard Ray, Mrs. John Dibb and Mrs. Joe Currie, spent part of the day at Fort Bragg where they attend ed a leadership training course at the Brownie and Junior level of scouting. MISS MARIA GRACE SPAGNUOLO is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alfonso S^agnuolo of New Rochelle, N. Y., who an nounce her engagement to William Larkin Wiggs, III of Scars- dale, N. Y. Mr. Wiggs is the son of Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Wiggs of Southern Pines. The future bride is a 1960 graduate of the New Rochelle High School. She is employed as a secretary with the real estate firm of Harold Oshlag in New Rochelle. Mr. Wiggs received an associate of arts degree in 1961 from Erie County Technical Institute, Buffalo, where he majored in opthalmic optics. He is employed by Schoenig Opticians in White Plains, N. Y. A June wedding is planned. WED RECENTLY IN VIETNAM Pair Honored At Supper-Dance Prior to their departure Wed nesday for Fort Banning, Ga., Lt. and Mrs. Tonu Toomepuu were honored by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert C. Fisher, at a sup per-dance Tuesday at the Mid Pines Club. The former Robin Fisher and Lieutenant Toomepuu were mar ried this past summer in Vietnam, where he was stationed for a year. Lt. Toomepuu will teach at the Infantry School at Banning. Also present lor the reception' were Mr. and Mrs. Juhan Toome puu of New York City, parents of Lieutenant Toomepuu, and his cousin, Mrs. Evald Pajumae, also of New York, who were guests of the Fishers at the Mid Pines Club. Volunieer Workers To Assisi At VA Hospital Gift Shop Dan McNeill was the chauf feur on Tuesday when the Volun teer Hospital Workers from the local unit of the American Le gion Auxiliary spent the day of duty on the wards at the Veter ans’ Hospital in Fayetteville. On the trip were Mrs. L. L. Woolley, Miss Nannie Gilchrist and Mr. and Mrs. McNeill. The next day of duty will be December 8, opening day of the Christmas Gift Shop, when many volunteer workers will be need ed to assist in the wrapping and addressing of gift packages to be sent to the families of veterans after they have selected gifts to cover their family needs. All gifts are free to them, sup plied by the American Legion auxiliaries all over the state. There are similar gift shops for the veterans at Oteen, Salisbury and Durham hospitals. Club Women Learn To Make Fancy Cookies Tuesday afternoon, November 10, found 25 interested Home Demonstration Club women gath ered in the office of Mrs. Jean Hubbard, home economics agent. 'The purpose was to learn how to make fancy cookies. This special interest workshop was taught by Mrs. Robert Cof fey, member of the Cranes Creek Home Demonstration Club. Mrs. Coffey taught how to make press, filled', dropped and handshaped cookies. Recipe sheets were dis tributed. The club leaders will hold the same type of workshop for their respective clubs. United Church To Launch Its Yearly Canvass Sunday “Sharing Can Be A Spiritual Experience,” will be the subject of the Rev. Carl Wallace’s ser mon Sunday at the United Church of Christ, at the 11 a.m. service. ; A luncheon for canvassers will follow the service, at 12:30, launching the Every-Member Canvass at 1:30. Also at the church Sunday, the 2:30 p.m. rehearsal for The Mes siah and at 6, the regular meet ing of the Youth Fellowship. A community Thanksgiving service will be held at Brown- son Memorial Presbyterian Church Women Have Luncheon Meeting Monday Mrs. William Graham, recently installed president of the Wo men of Brownson Memorial Pres byterian Church, Monday presid ed at the group’s general meeting in the church’s fellowship hall. Over 70 members attended. Luncheon following the meet ing- was provided by Circle 8, of which Mrs. W. Lamont Brown is chairman. The program, “Not by Bread Alone,” was introduced by Mrs. Delamar Mann. Taking part were: Mrs. E. L. Barber, Mrs. Vern Larson, Mrs. Dan McNeill and Mrs. Joe K. Tate. Immediately following the pro gram, a short business meeting was held. Dr. Julian Lake, pastor of the church, dismissed the meeting with prayer. Veeps Rap Prexys In Silver Foils Team Matches Mrs. Daniel O. Delany, substi tuting for Silver Foils Club vice president, Mrs. John B. von Schlegell, led her team to victory against the president’s team, captained by Mrs. Q. A. Shaw McKean, in the annual SF Team Matches Tuesday at the Pinehurst Country Club. The veep team, winning for the second consecutive year, scored 441^ points against the president’s team’s 42% points. Following the tournament, which had an entry of 58 mem bers, the players were entertain ed at a tea given by Mrs. Mc Kean, at the country club. Moore Speech Therapist To Attend Conference Mrs. Barbara Blake, Speech Therapist in the Moore County Schools, wiU serve as moderator of a panel, “Improving Public School Speech and Hearing Pro grams by Utilizing Community Resources,” on Saturday morning November 21, at the State Special Education Conference in Winston- Salem. UDC Chapter Meeting Held In Pinehurst 'The November meeting of the John Blue Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy was held at the Nurses Home in Pinehurst, ■ November 10. Mrs. John McCrummen, Mrs. George Moger, Mrs. C. F. Brasington, Mrs. John Sloan and Miss Lalan Patterson served their guests a dessert course on arrival. Fifteen members were present. Mrs. H. W. Doub led in the reading of the ritual and the salute to the flags. Mrs. C. S. Patch, Sr., president, presided and heard the reports from the committees. During the business session, the club voted to purchase markers for the Confederate soldiers graves. Mrs. John McCrummen, pro gram chairman, presented Mrs. A. L. Now making their home in Southern Pines are Mr. and Mrs. James Bennett Graham and chil dren, Sandra Lynn, eight, and Paula Kay, four. The family has been living in Trenton, N. J. Mr. Graham is now employed as pro ject engineer with the Proctor- Silex Company. They are living in Mrs. Frank Buchan’s house. Mrs. Graham is the daughter of Mrs. Florrie Sandstrom and a sister of Mrs. Grace Southerland who owns and operates the Sandstrom Nursing Home in Myrtle Beach, S.
