CHARLES CAMERON Christmas Cantata An open invitation from the faculty and students of Vass- Lakeview Elementary School to a Christmas Cantata-Pageant brought out a large, attentive and appreciative audience of parents, grandparents, other relatives and friends Monday night, December 21. Grades 1-8 were represented in the program which consisted of singing groups and a short Christmas play. Credits for the entire program go to the faculty and students for their efforts, talents and cooper ation. The principal, Mr. RusseE, gave the welcome and made brief announcements concerning the registration for PTA membership which followed the program. MYF Christmas Program On Sunday evening, December 20, members of the MYF pre sented its Christmas program, of carol singing, the Scriptural Christmas story, and a one-act play, “Christmas Comes Home.” The play was written in the early ’50s by the pastor, the Rev. Charles Wooten. Included was a white Christmas “celebration,” a bringing of white-wrapped gifts which were distributed to the needy. Student Recognition At the regular morning war ship service at the Vass Metho dist Church Sunday morning, the church joined other Methodist churches in observance of Stu dent Recognition Day. Students taking part in the ser vice in addition to Miss Patsy Callahan, a junior at Meredith College, who brought the mes sage, were; Danny Williams freshman at Methodist College; Miss Jeanette Mullinix, a senior at UNC-G; A1 Edwards, a student at Wingate Junior College; and Miss Amy Callahan, a freshman at State Teachers College, Pem broke. Special music was present ed by Miss Callahan and three other members of the choir—Mrs. Cortis Thomas, Mrs. Mack Calla han, and Miss Ann Thomas. Family Reunion Members of the Crouse family gathered at the Cameron Com munity House Christmas day for the family reunion and picnic dinner. Sixty-two descendants were present for the occasion. Personsds Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Frye had with them for the holidays their daughters, Mrs. W. H. Raborn and sons, Glenn and Woodie and Mrs. Raborn and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Mashburn and sons Paul and J.ames, all of Aiken, S. C. Mrs. Hazel Whitright and daughters, Lana, Linda, and Dena, of Paneallas, Fla., came Tuesday of last week for the Christmas holidays with her brother-in-law and sisters, Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Keith and family and Mr. and Mrs. Cortis Thomas and family of Route 1, Cameron, and other relatives of Greens boro. Mr. and Mrs. Clinton Peele and children are spending a few days in Richmond, Va., with his fath er, Luther Peele. The Rev. and Mrs. James Fair- cloth and son, William, visited her mother, Mrs. Willie Odom, and his brother, in Maxton Fri day. Miss Patricia Callahan who re cently accepted a position in the bookkeeping department with the N. C. National Bank of Ra leigh, was home for the holidays with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Edd Callahan and family. Mr. and Mrs. Hugh McDermott came Sunday for a visit with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. G. M. Mc Dermott, Sr., and other relatives. Mr. and Mrs. H. C. Callahan and grandson, Donald McCaskill of Eureka, and a student at Pem broke State College, visited Mr. and Mrs. Jim Idol and family of Kernersville Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Randi Duncan of Collinsville, Va. spent Christmas with Mrs. Duncan’s parents, the Rev. and Mrs. J. D. Hales, Jr. and family. Mr. and Mrs. David Whitesell and sons, Allen and Taylor, Mr. and Mrs. Frederick H. 'Taylor of Troy and Dr. and Mrs. Russell Tate and sons, Jule and Russ spent Christmas Day with Mr. and Mrs. Fred L. Taylor. Here for the holidays also were Mr. and Mrs. F. W. Taylor of Myrtle Beach, S. C. Mr. and Mrs. Russell Bullock and daughter, Marjorie Leslie and Mr. and Mrs. Lane Bullock and family and Mr. and Mrs. Leon Caviness and family of Lake- view were Christmas Day supper guests in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Bullock and family of Lillington. Miss Sue Bullock, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lane Bullock, visited in the home of an uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Mayward Bullock and family of Fuquay, during the holidays. Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Hinsley and family and Mr. and Mrs. Dock Hinsley of Hickory spent Christmas with their mother, Mrs. C. D. Hinsley. Visitors during the holidays with Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Evans were, Mr. and Mrs. M. B. Clay ton and sons, Mike and Mark of Bethune, S. C.; Miss Barbara Johnson of Hartsville, S. C.; Mr. and Mrs. Norris Hall of Camden, S. C.; Levi Clayton of Washing ton, D. C.; Mr. and Mrs. C. B. Cooper of Hamlet; Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Clayton and son, Gary of Aberdeen; Mr. and Mrs. Dewey Edmisten and family, Mr. and Mrs. Earnest Clayton ad family and Mrs. Howard Callahan all of this community. Mr. and Mrs. A. V. Autrey, Sr. and Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Alexan dra and sons. Tommy and Phillip of Fayetteville spent Christmas Day with Mr. and Mrs. A. V. Au try, Jr. and children, Linda, Larry and Betsy, of Asheboro. The family returned to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Autrey, Sr. for the weekend. The Vass Rescue Squad and the ladies of the Auxiliary held their annual Christmas Party at the Squad building, December 21. The Rev. Dan Norma read “The Christmas Story” and led in prayer. The group then played several games led by Mrs. Hor ace Mullinix. She passed pictures of the group around when they were babies or young children to be identified. Mrs. Nancy Deans was winner of this contest. Mrs. Ray Griffin was the winner of the balloon contest. The children of the group were invited and had a small tree of their own with gifts f9r each under it. The Christmas program, “The Old, Old Story,” directed by Mrs. Jessie Hales and Mrs. W. V. Nix was presented at the Vass Baptist Church on Wednesday night, De cember 23. The Youth and Adult Choirs sang. Miss Holly Hales was the narrator for the program, The Choir used as their first number “Christmas Foretold” written and composed by W. V. Nix. Following the program, they went to the basement of the edu cational building for their Christmas party. Gifts were giv en to the children and Fred Tay lor presented a check to the Rev. Mr. Hales and family from the church. Also an old fashioned pounding was presented to them. Bags of treats were passed out to all. Refreshments of punch, corn- fee and cookies were served. Wayne Caddell, younger son of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Caddell underwent an appendectomy at St. Joseph hospital Saturday afternoon. Mrs. Charles Mann of Char lottesville, Va., spent the Christ mas holidays with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. L. Tyson. Luther Wallace of Carthage joined them for Christmas dinner. Mrs. M. B. (Bessie Cox) Willis and daughter, Mary Bess, of Cary visited Mr. and Mrs. W. Clyde Cox and Mrs. S. R. Smith Satur day. Other holiday visitors in the Cox home included their son, Clyde, Jr., of the US Navy, and family, who were in the process of moving from Charleston, S. C., to Norfolk, Va.; Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Brooks and children of Sanford, and Mr. and Mrs. Julian Leslie of Greensboro, who visited Miss Louise Leslie and the Rus sell Bullocks, also. Miss Bessie Cameron spent Christmas day in Sanford with Mr. and Mrs. Linwood Keith and family. Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Muse with Muse relatives from Cameron were Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Carlyle Gibson of Rock ingham. CHARGED FOR CARE? The circumstances under which a veteran might be charged for care received in a VA hospital arise rarely. It is possible that a veteran admitted to a VA hos pital, is later determined not to have legal entitlement, so would be billed for his care. Also, a vet eran may be admitted for in juries sustained in an automobile or industrial accident and “third party” liability determined later.
