All Sanatorium patients who can possibly go home at Christ mas time are allowed to leave. Some are too ill to take part in the contest. But for others, it is a happy time as they beautify the doors of their temporary homes to greet their visitors at Christmas. Annual Project The contest is an annual pro ject of the Sandhills Club, which junction both as the McCain community’s tuberculosis associ ation, woman’s club and hospitcd auxiliary. President is Mrs. Nata lie Dodge, whose husband, Ralph Dodge, is business mannager of the “San.” Assisting with the project is Mrs. Nancy Mar ley of Southern Pines, regional patients’ services committee coordinator at McCain for the 29 tuberculosis associa tions within the area served by the Sanatorium—28 county units, including two in Guilford Coun ty, and the McCain Sunshine li||p| SMILING FACES and a door decoration with shining blue background greeted visitors at Room 20, Brooks I. The decora tion won a red (second place) ribbon. (V. Nicholson photo) Club. This year the Sunshine Club gave each contestant $1, which could be used for materials for decoration if desired. They bought bright wrapping papers, ribbons, paint and gilt and other basic items, adding anything else at hand. In one room, crumpled news papers wrapped in foil made sil ver roses for a wreath, with foil- wrapped dixie cups for Christmas bells. Christmas cards, pictures cut from magazines, pine needles, small toys, all found places on the doors. Coming in handy were old Christmas decorations given by ifriends of the San—and Mrs. Dodge asks, when you take down your tree, wreaths and other adornments of the season, don’t throw any of the tinsel and other ornaments away. Put them in a box and ship it off to the San, where they will be happily stored for next year’s contest. Judges this year were Mrs. Forrest Lockey, Mrs. Jack M. Taylor and Mrs. R. S. Gwyn, all of Aberdeen. Broad St. Southern Pines George Capra Dies In New Jersey, On Visit To Daughter Funeral services and burial took place at Freehold, N. J., Monday for George Capra of Southern Pines who apparently died in his sleep, the night before Christmas Day, while visiting a daughter at Freehold. Mr. Capra, who was Gowin Dryer supervisor at the A. & M Karagheusian carpet - manufac turing plant at Aberdeen, had lived in Southern Pines since he came to this area with the Kara gheusian company when it mov ed from Freehold, in April, 1959. He had been employed for more than 40 years with the firm. During most of his residence in the Sandhills, Mr. Capra lived at Highland Lodge. He was a de vout member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church and was a mem ber of the Southern Pines Elks Lodge. Mr. Capra’s wife died several years ago. In addition to his daughter, he is survived by a son, also a resident of Freehold.
