Eugene Dixon, Jr., of Phila delphia, was elected president of the National Steeplechase and Hunt Association recently at the Annual Meeting of the group. He becomes the seventh person to head the Association since its inception in 1895 and succeeds John W. Hanes. Dixon has been active in na tional racing affairs for some time and has served as vice-presi dent of the Association since 1963. The Association also elected James P. Mills of Middleburg, Va., as vice-president and Lewis C. Murdock of Peapack, N. J. as treasurer. Re-elected were S. Bryce Wing as honorary chair man; A. C. Bostwick, secretary; John E. Cooper, executive secre tary; and Olive R. Keeley, Asis- tant secretary. The rotation policy of the As sociation resulted in the election of four new stewards, Philip F. N. Fanning, Lewis C. Ledyard, Randolph D. Rouse and Charles W. Stitzer who is a former win ter resident of the Sandhills and is well known in racing and hunting circles in this area. Dixon expressed an optimistic view for 1965 and sees it as anoth er excellent year for steeplechas ing at the major tracks and hunt meetings. Earlier in the day, the Hunts Committee elected Austin A.
