Basketball Report
By BOBBY SPENCER
Sporls Publicilj/ Director
The Pinehurst boys put the
regular season championship
away Tuesday night with a 64-29
victoiV over Aberdeen. The win
gave the Rebels a 13-0 record
and even a loss to Union Pines
Friday night could not alter their
first place finish. Congratulations
to the Pinehurst boys on their
third straight regular season
Moore County Conference cham
pionship.
Friday night, the girls’ division
championship will be settled
when second place Union Pines
visits Pinehurst. The Pinehurst
girls are assured of at least a
share of the championship even
if they lose this game. If Union
Pines wins, the two teams will be
declared co-champions and each
team will receive a trophy. Tour
nament berths will be decided by
a flip of a coin.
Next week, of course, is the big
event — the annual tournament.
This is the climax of the season
and the last time ever the teams
will meet in Moore County com
petition. Next year some of the
teams will move into 2A compe-
tion and the remaining 1-A teams
will join a new conference.
The tournament starts Monday
night at the Union Pines gym.

Attend One-Day Training Workshop

Library personnel from Rich
mond, Moore and Montgomery
Counties attended a one-day
training workshop Friday in
Rockingham at the Library.
“Use of Film in the Public Li
brary Program” was the topic for
the day. Vincent Anderson, audio
visual consultant from the State
Library, and Miss Hollis C.
Haney, director of the SandWll
Regional Library, stressed during
the morning session that a vari
ety of subjects are available on
film through the library. The N.
C. State Public Library Adult
Film Program (organized in 1962)
houses 1,500 films on education,
literature, art, business man
agement, - travel, gardening and
other subjects.'
Eagh county library, branch
and bookmobile has a Film Cata
log with subject index to aid any
adult in obtaining the loan of a
film, free of charge. The inter-
library loan film service requires
a two-week notice for shipment.
Miss Frances Gish, State Libra
ry consultant, assisted by Miss
Haney and Mr. Anderson, con
ducted the afternoon training
session. Miss Gish emphasized
that as a part of regional system
(such, as the Sandhill Regional
Library) and with the State Li-
brarv’s cooperative program,
many services are available,
through even the smallest libra
ry. Two films were viewed and
discussed.
A business man or woman who
merely stops by the library to
pick up books for his sick child
may be surprised to find that the
Moore, Montgomery and Rich
mond County Libraries and
Miss Haney noted. 'Through the
Inter-Library Loan service the
following are available: specific
books, periodicals, films, records
and reference service for infor
mation, she said.
Library personnel from Moore
County attending included Mrs
Doris M. Stewart and Mrs. Wan-
ita P. Marts, of the Moore Coun
ty Library, and Mrs. Margaret O.
Rounds of Given Memorial Libra
