':A., ■ ArtSf Crafts An “Arts and Crafts Show” of work done by residents of Manor Care Nursing Home in Pinehurst, examples of needlework and woodcarving by the West End Senior Citizens and paintings by Marian W. Phillips of Pinehurst, now a resident of Oak Haven Rest Home at San ford, are on display during the remainder of November, in the foyer between Given Memorial Library and the Archives Wing. The show was arranged by the curator of the Archives Wing, Mrs. Mildred McIntosh. Mixed Couples The Pinehurst Sunday Mixed Couples played best two of four added with 334 couples par ticipating this week. In first place with 127 were Flo and Pat Zailckas, Ida and Joe Beebl. In second with 131 were Lib and Art McSteen, Phillis and Silver Foils Wins Given Mrs. Frank Palumbo won low putts of the field with 7 for the 18 holes in last week’s Silver Foils Club tournament, a Stroke Play contest for Individuals played on the No. 3 course of the Pinehurst CC. Winners in Class A were Mrs. Boyd Walker, 85, low gross; tied for low net at 69, Mrs. Edwin J. Haertl and Mrs. D. Robert Parman. Oass B: Mrs. W.S. Kirk patrick, 93, low gross; Mrs. E.L. Stentz, 71 low net. Class C: Mrs. Herman Petersen, 97, low, gross; tied for low net at 74, Kathryn Galiher and Mrs. Constance Baker. Larry Watson. Third were Milly and Wilson Souders, Jan and Charlie Brown with 133. Taking fourth place with 135 were Marion and Cal Patterson, Nancy and Park Hough. In fifth place on a match of cards were Eileen and Bob Luhrs and Nancy and Tom Donahue with 137. Tin Whistles Give Winners Tin Whistles Club members completed a Stroke Play tour nament Saturday despite a slight rain persisting throughout the day. Play was over the Pinehurst ^Country Club No. 1 course. Winners by classes, received prizes for first low gross and first low net as follows: Qass A: Matt Ellison, 68, low gross; Bob Hunt, 64, low net. Class B: Harry Spielman, 78, low gross; John von Canon, 67, low net. Qass C: Andy Andrews, 78, low gross; Watt Smith, 62, low net. Class D; Bob Sheridan, 87, low gross; Perry Jones, 61, low net. ON DISPLAY — The sparkling new equipment van added to the Pinehurst Fire Department through funds raised by its volunteer and paid members, was on display Monday in front of the Fire Station to show off to Pinehurst Village Council members and others attending the monthly meeting next door. The vehicle cost $7,500 and carries heavy duty and first aid equipment needed by fire fighters. Village Council RESURFACED — The two main streets of Pinehurst were resurfaced early last week in work authorized by the Pinehurst Village Council. The flow of traffic through the town continued unabated, with the assistance of the local Police Department—(Photo by M.E. de Nissoff). (Continued From Page 1-C) “in the event the village is in corporated,” Ms. Galiher said Council attorney Joe Monroe advised the Pinehurst Village Council could not approve or authorize any redefinition of village boundaries; this must be done by act of the NC Legislature. The Finance Committee, she stated moves to vote “no.” Ms. Galiher’s next request was for a motion to approve payment of $758.35 to be paid the Pinehurst Civic Group for expenses of the September referendum. After a brief discussion, with Slade pointing out that “a con siderable number of people found it necessary to spend time as well as money over the past several months in the interest of this village and I cannot see why a minority should be reimburse,” it was decided the committee should research the problem further and report at next month’s meeting. Wheaton Kittredge reported for the Architectural Committee a total of 101 new homes as compared to 95 last year at this time, and an upgrade in the type of homes. PTA Chosen In Survey ForU.S. The Pinehurst Middle School PTA will meet Tuesday evening, November 28, at 7:30 p.m. in the school auditorium. The National Congress of Parents and Teachers and the Department of Health, Education and Welfare has chosen Pinehurst Middle School PTA as one of 5,000 local PTA units to survey parent members and advise the U.S. Government of the people’s opinions on how much government should concern itself in the area of family problems and television and advertising effects on children. This survey will be discussed and presented to those members present during the meeting. Those people in the community interested in participating in this survey are welcome to attend. Student work from Mr. Wright’s Pre-Vocational classes and Mrs. Chatham’s Art classes will be on display. TEAM SPEAKS A husband-wife team from Virginia Tech will address a meeting of the Purchasing Management Association of the Carolines and Virginia (PMAC-V) in Pinehurst, on Dec. 9. Nancy Bird will speak on “Women in Organization,” and Monroe Bird witt share the program with a discussion of “Selling Purchasing to Management.” A graduate of Central Missouri State University, Ms. Bird received her M.A. from Virginia Tech. She lectures both there and at New River Community College in adult continuing education. Bird, a profesor of marketing at Tech, has been an academic member of PMAC-V and a Tech faculty member since 1968. Members and interested non-members are encouraged to attend the meeting. For Future Planning, Micajah R. Wyatt said Bob Viall of the Fire Department had asked his Conunittee to investigate the addition of a Fire Sub Station as the Pinehurst Fire Department is the largest in Moore County. Wyatt said he felt there was no need for this, however. In first were Rene Ellis, Sarah Hill Blackwood and two blind scores for a 61. Second on a match of cards were Mary Whs, Lib McSteen, Nancy Donahue and a blind score for a 67. Also with a 67 were Ann Brechtelsbauer, Marion Wike, Jan Brown and a blind score. SON BORN A son was bom Monday at Rex Hospital, Raleigh to Mr. and Mrs. Fred Atkins of Cary. This is their third child; they have two daughters, Sara, four, and Leslie, two. The infant weighed seven pounds, 15 ounces. His mother is the former Linda Hinson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs L.J. Hinson of Pinehurst. PILOT AD VERTISING PAYS Mid South Bank Notes Dividend The Board of Directors of Mid- South Bank & Trust Company has declared a dividend of 14 cents per share to be paid December 15 to stockholders of record December 1. This brings the total dividend paid for 1978 to 26 cents per share. Mid-South Bank & Trust Company opened for business June 27, 1974 now has total assets in access of 21 million dollars. AT MAINE STATION Navy Commander Peter C. Baxter, whose ivife, Diane, is the daughter of George M. and Anne A. Erwin of Pinehurst, has reported for duty with Patrol Squadron 23, at the Naval Air Station, Brunswick, Maine. A 1964 graduate of Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, with a Bachelor of Science degree, he joined the Navy in April 1964.
