Phillips, Sr. of Southern Pines, announce the engagement of their daughter, Sandra Louise Phillips, to the Rev. Joseph Clinton Brown, son of Mr. Robert H. Brown of Trenton, and Mrs. Gladys Brown of Pollocksville. A May 19 wedding is planned. Miss Phillips was graduated from Pihecrest High School. She is at present employed at the Carolina Bank, Aberdeen. The Rev. Mr. Brown was graduated from Jones Senior High School, Trenton and Shaw University Raleigh. He is presently the pastor of Andrews Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church, Bunnlevel. Valentine Party Planned By Hospital Guild Feb. 9 On January 16 in the dining room at St. Joseph-of-the-Pines Hospital the Guild held its general meeting presided over by Mrs. Martin Keale, President. Mrs. Frank Brawley, Program Chairman, introduced the guest speaker and reviewer, Mary Dee Ridiards of Whispering Pines, who held the audience spellbound with her beautiful review of “Charlotte’s Web.” While refreshments were served by Mrs. Graham Douglass and Mrs. Austin Mur^y and their committee at an attractive table presided over by Mrs. Robert Miller and Mrs. Charles Harrison, Mr. John Boermeester of Whispering Pines provided beautiful background music on the piano winch was greatly enjoyed by the Guild members and their guests. After tea was served, a short business meeting was held, at which time Mrs. Keale reported that the Dinner Theater party held in November had been a tremendous financial success. Brief reports were given by Mrs. John Dzomi, treasurer, and Mrs. Richard Crabbe, chairman of the Camellia Gift Shop. Mrs. Crabbe said that the shop had an unusually good financial report for the month of December. It was announced that Mrs. Paul Muri*y is chairman of the Nominating Committee for the 1979-80 Guild officers. Mrs. Keale annoimced that the Valentine-Luncheon-Card Party would be held on February 9 at 12 Noon at the Country Club of North Carolina with Mrs. Robert Daniels and Mrs. Burke Atkinson as Co-chairmen for this event. Mrs. Atkinson told the members that she had acquired some unusual door prizes, and urged them to get their reservations in early as the club can only ac- conunodate 300 persons. The cost of the luncheon is $6.50. The newsletter with a reservation section has been mailed to the Guild members. Committee members working on the Valentine Party are: For reservations: Mrs. R.L. Mansion Open The Executive Mansion will reopen for public tours on Feb. 1. The schedule will be as follows: Tuesday through Friday - 10 a.m. to 11:30, 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. It is necessary to telephone for ai^intments for public tours, which are arranged through the Capital Area Visitor Center, (919) 733-3456. Collins, Jr., Director of Development and Planning for the Town of Southern Pines and advisor to the Planning Board and Beautification Committee, will speak to the Southern Pines Civic Qub Monday, February 5. He will tell of the im plementation of the downtown development plans and the up dating of the original study which {reduced these plans. Collins is a graduate of North Carolina State University and did his graduate work there. He has been, and is, active in state societies and organizations relating to city and community {danning and development. Hostesses at the tea following the program will be Mesdames H.D. Jones, Robert Bow^n, Fred Davies, George Konz and T.G. Poindexter. The Bridge Group is meetipg tee first Friday of February, tee 2nd, instead of tee 9te, because of ,a conflict on teat date.
