Wednesday, April 11,1979 THE PILOT—Southern Pines, North Carolina Page 3-A Cj 9 Fashion Show Chamber Music Is Scheduled Program Given At Club Meet At Club Meet A program of chamber music' was enjoyed at the Thursday night meeting of the Cardinal Book Club of Aberdeen which was held in the fellowship hall of Page Memorial United Methodist Church. It was presented by Mrs. Jane Chester, instructor of string instruments for Moore County Schools Area III. Three of her students of Southern Pines Middle School participated. The music was performed by a string quartet featuring two violins, a viola and cello. Karen Sellers and Clarice Hatcher played the violins, Gracen Duffield played the viola and Mrs. Chester played the cello. Their performance included three special selections, and was enjoyed by the club members and their guests: Mrs. Bob Kyle of Aberdeen, Mrs. Katheryn Sellers and John Hatcher of Southern Pines. Mrs. Chester has a group of ten very talented students who perform well together. They’d appreciate an opportunity to entertain for church gatherings or at club meetings. Any group that is interested in having them perform should get in contact with Mrs. Chester. Following the musical program, Mrs. Tommy Gsch- wind, hostess, invited the club members and guests to a tea table for refreshments of punch, assorted cookies, sheet cake decorated in spring flowers, nuts and mints. Tlie table and hall were decorated with arrangements of dogwood and azaleas. After the social period, Mrs. Raymond Auman, president, called the assembly to order and conducted a brief business meeting. The Sandhills Christian Women’s Club wUl hold its monthly meeting at the Country Club of North Carolina in Southern Pines on Thursday, April 19, at 11:30. CWC is an interdenomination al women’s group with no membership or dues. All are welcome to attend. Audrey McClung of Vienna, Va., will be the speaker. She is the wife of a Navy pilot and is a fashion buyer. Bobbie Mims of Southern Pines will be bringing special music. The special feature will be a fashion show by Helen’s of Pinehurst. To bring in spring, everyone is invited to wear something pink-if only a touch of it. A free preschool nursery is provided at the Central United Methodist Church for mothers of young children. However, reservations must be made for them. Bring the child’s lunch. For reservations call 949-2266 by Tuesday, April 17. Note the change of meeting date from Wednesday to Thursday. This party will be to celebrate the coming of spring. Be sure to bring a snack. Keep watching the paper for further details. it' The Moore County Recreation Department is sponsoring a trip to Charleston, South Carolina. This trip, which is for Senior Qtizens, will be May 1-3. The cost will be $79.50 per person for double room ac commodations, $69.50 per person for triple room registration, and Charleston Trip $60 per person for quadruple room registration. This price includes bus transportation, motel accommodations at Holiday Inn - Riverview, and admission to the Harbor Qnise, Historic Tours, Middleton Gardens, and Charles Towne Landing. The department invites all Seniors to join on this trip to Charleston on May 1-3. Persons must register by April 13. Reports were given and projects discussed. Tlie letter game was “M” won by Mrs. Wynn and Mrs. Murphy. The big winners were Mrs. Nelson and Mrs. Murphy. Refreshment were served and the evening was enjoyed by all. Sandra Corena Thomas, daughter of the Rev. and Mrs. Samuel Thomas of Southern Pines, and Carl Ellis, Jr., son of the Rev. and Mrs. Carl Ellis, of New Jersey, were married Saturday, March 31, at 3 p.m., at the First Baptist Church of Southern Pines. The Rev. James Hampton officiated for the double ring ceremony. Mary Hampton provided the music, and soloist was Sheila Caldwell, who was accompanied by Rufus McNeil on the piano. Escorted by her father, the bride wore a white Quiana lace gown with a mandarin collar and V^ieckline. The bodice, bishop sleeves and cuffs were accented with venise lace. Her veil was attached to a pearl-embroidered headpiece and a floor length train. She carried a spring bouquet of yellow roses. Maid of honor was her sister, Melissa Tbomas. She wore a cream two-piece tunic top and floor length sdcirt with headpiece and shoes to match. She carried a bouquet of peaches and cream carnations. The bridesmaids were Marti Graham, Sally Peoples, Lydia Wilson and Cynthia Turner. They wore peach tunic dresses and carried bouquets of peaches and cream carnations. Flower girls were Zenetta Fox and Nicole Buchanan. Best man was Samuel Thomas, brother of the bride. Ushers were Charles Thomas, David Buchanan, Terry Wyatt, and Steve Wilson. Junior ushers were Jacque Thomas, Sylvon Thomas and Charles Thomas, Jr. Ring bearer was Carl Arnaz Ellis. The bride’s mother wore a taupe champagne blouson knit crepe and suede dress with an orchid corsage. Memorial Day Services Set At Bethesda The Aberdeen VFW Post 9395 plans to have an impressive Memorial Day ceremony at the Bethesda Cemetery May 28. They would like to ask anyone who has lost a loved one in a foreign war to get a U.S. Flag, at least 3’ X 5’, and loan it to the post for the services. It is planned to line up all the flags during the service and honor each deceased service man. “Let us hear from you Aberdeen residents,” Paul Seabolt asked. For further information persons may contact Paul Seabolt at 944-2473 or R.C. Styers at 944-1727. The Aberdeen VFW Post 9395 is newly organized. Elks Bridge The regular Friday night bridge played at the Elks Club is an ACBL sponsored game and the game fee is $1.50 per person. All women players are invited; members of the Elks Club and their guests are welcome. The results of the April 6 game were as follows: North-South: first place, Louise Macdonald and Miriam Vanness; second place, Ed and Betsy Edmondson; third place, Phil and Mae Wainford; fourth place, Alex Davidson and Pat Clark. East-West: first place. Jack and Betty Jester; second place, A1 and Martha Schrader; third place, David and Mary Lou Forrest; fourth place, Frank and Johnnie Johnson. A linen shower was given for the bride by her sister, Melissa Thomas, and Barbara Thomas, sister-in-law. A breakfast was given for the bridal party by Joan Ray. The bride’s parents en tertained with a rehearsal dinner at the Sheraton Inn. The reception was held at the Sheraton Inn. Jackie Walden and Priscilla McRae were in charge of the guest book and gifts. Serving punch were Flossie Nelson and Leslie Redding. The five tier cake was served by Betty Ferguson and Joan Ray. with a buffet style dinner. The bride and groom were honored with guests from New Jersey, Virginia, Washington, D.C., Georgia, South Carolina, and many cities of North Carolina. Mrs. P.C. Balsley directed the wedding. The couple flew to Nassau for their honeymoon.
