Ross, 50, of Washington Crossing, Pa., the son of Dr. and Mrs. Roland Ross of Whispering Pines, died Sunday in a health center in Newtown, Bucks County, Pa. after a long illness. Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday (today) at St. Martins (Church in New Hope, Pa. and burial will be at the church. He was an officer of the Vanadium Corporation of New York Cit' The Foote Mineral Company, and Newmont Mining Corp. A veteran of the US Navy during the Korean War, he was a graduate of the University of Notre Dame and Georgetown University School of Law. Surviving; in addition to his parents, are his wife, the former Nancy Gibbons, and nine children. Memorials may be made to the Sunshine Foundation, 2842 Normandy Drive, Philadelphia, Pa. 19154. Mrs. Presley Funeral Here Funeral services for Mrs. Sarah Presley, 73, of Winchester, Va. former Carthage resident and widow of the late Will Presley, were held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Priest Hill Presbyterian Church in Carthage with Dr. Lester Dattler and the Rev. B.E. Dotson conducting the services. Burial was at the church. Mrs. Presley died Saturday. An earlier service had been held for her in Winchester. She is survived by a sister, Mrs. Louise Armstrong of Win chester. T.R. David Dies At 73 Tallie Richard David, 73, a native of Moore County, of Seagrove, Rt. 2, died Thursday in Memorial Hospital. The funeral was at 2 p.m. Saturday at Dover Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. William Rollings and the Rev. Tom Horner. Burial was at the church. Surviving are brothers, Ray David of Nitro, W. Va., Charlie David of Robbins, Lealon Da^d of Seagrove; a sister,' Mrs. Thelma Mabe of Seagrove. Norman B. Patterson, 73, of Lillington, who has relaUves in Moore County, died Thursday. Surviving: are his wife, Mrs. Mozelle Wester Patterson; daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Warner of Sanford, Mrs. Norma Jean Clayton of Broadway, Mrs. Grace McDonald of Marion, Mrs. Betty Rene Borowiak of Versailles, Ky.; son, Fred Patterson of Lillington; sisters, Mrs. Russell H. Paul Foreman Hardy, 79 of Raleigh, a retired minister and a former pastor of Bethlehem Baptist Church, Carthage, Route 1, died Wednesday at Wake Medical Center. Funeral rites were conducted Friday afternoon at Ephesus Baptist Church in Wake County, where he had been a member since retiring in 1970. One of the three ministers conducting the funeral was the Rev. C. Gene Booker, pastor of Robbins First Baptist Church in Robbins. Burial was in the church cemetery. He is survived by his wife, three brothers and ttoee sisters. Mrs. Cummings Of Vass Dies Mrs. Effie Wallace Cummings, 49, of Vass died Thursday at Moore Memorial Hospital. The funeral was held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Highland Baptist Church, where she was a member, the Rev. Don Daniels conducting the service. Burial was in Ferguson Cemetery. BY BARBARA DANLEY Church Events Women of the First Baptist (Thurch met last Monday evening at the church for their regular monthly meeting. Leading the program and Bible Study were Mary Jo Crissman and Belinda Hennings. During the meeting plans were discussed to furnish throw pillows for the Cameron (Children’s Home as a Mission Action Project. Also the group decided to begin in June, having a day group meeting for ladies who could not attend at night. Following the evening meeting Margaret Beauchamp served refreshments to the nine ladies in attendance. Bible School Director Barbara Koonce announced the beginning of Bible School Sunday, May 31, with registration and family night supper at the church. Mrs. Koonce said anyone interested in attending is invited to join them Sunday evening on this occasion. The bi-monthly Bible study was lead by Ron McCullough Sunday evening at the church. Darlene Ring Elected The Ladies Auxiliary of the Vass Church of God met Thursday night for the purpose of electing new officers. The eight ladies attending went put for dinner at the Western Sizzling Steak House. During the after dinner meeting, Darlene Ring was elected to the office of President for the coming year. Vickie Ring was elected Vice President, and Dianne Murchison was elected to the office of Secretary and Treasurer. Also, chosen as Adult Advisors for the Teenage Girls were Teresa Ring and Peggy Needham. The ladies decided to sponsor a Rummage Sale and Bake Sale at the church on June 6. Methodist Laymen The Rev. Harold Chrismon reports that the Vass United Methodist C3iurch had a good early morning service Sunday with the choir presenting the hymn, “Because He Lives.” On Sunday evening, the Rev. Harold C3\rismon and E.L. Finch accompanied by Gladys Warren and Johnny Marsh of Cameron attended a training event for Lay Delegates at the Carthage United Methodist Church. The Rev. Chrismon said that the purpose of the event, which was well attended, was to familiarize ministers and lay delegates with , resolutions and other bi^iness to be presented at the (Conference,- which will be held on June 7 at the Methodist College in Fayetteville. Sunday, May 30 will mark a special night for members of the Vass United Methodist (Church. The Fanndly Night Fellowship Hour will l^gin with a covered dish dinner in the Fellowship Hall at six o’clock. This Sunday night the Rev. Dr. Maurice Ritchie, Associate Dean of Student Affairs and Field Education for the Duke Divinity School, will be guest speaker for the evening. And special guest for the evening will be Scott Moore, Student Minister from Senninary. The Rev. Ritchie will speak to the group on the Duke Endowment and the Student Minister Intern Program. Student Minister Scott Moore will be workfing with the Vass United Methodist (Church for ten weeks. At Camp Monroe Mrs. N.N. McLean. Mrs. Eugene Hicks and Mrs. H.D. Jackson attended the Camp Monroe Retreat of the Women of the Church of the Fayetteville Presbytery in Laurel Hill on Friday. Following supper, Mrs. Mazie Minnick delivered the imspirational message. Vass Presbyterian Youth will meet on Wednesday night at the church at seven-tl^y for their final session in a three-part study on being a member of the church. Thursday night Bible study will be held in Manly again this week at the Manly Presybterian Church beginning at seven-thirty. Vass Lions Vass Lions held their bi-monthly meeting at the Vass United Methodist Church last Thursday. Ladies of the church prepared and served what Lion President, Phil Delozier termed a delicious meal, for the group. Afterwhich, Pat Pickett with the Department of Social Services, and Morgan Rogers of the Moore (County Recreation Department spoke to the group. Mrs. Pickett spoke to the group on Camp Dogwood, a camp for visually impaired persons, which is funded by North Carolina Lions (Club, while Mr. Rogers spoke on the county recreation and its needs. Of interest to community people is the fact that the Vass Lions Club has decided to sponsor one Vass resident, Mrs. Beulah Jones, at Camp Dogwood this summer. Nineteen Lions were in attendance Thursday night. The next Lions meeting will be June 18 again at the Vass United Methodist (Church. Happy Birthday Master Andy Marshbum was honored Friday, May 22, with a birthday party at his home in Vass on the occasion of his tenth birthday. Twelve of Andy’s classmates came home with 1^ from school for the special day. The boys enjoyed refreshments of biiihday cake, ice cream and (Cokes followed by outdoor games in the family’s backyard. Attending were: Andy Floyd, Matthew Callahan, Jonathan Foster, Brad Beard, Scott Grant, Chad Grant, Duwayne Morris, Parrish McKenzie, Billy Rice, Stanley Barber, Duwayne Barber and Jeffrey Danley. Andy is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Marshbum. Sick and Hospitalized Irene Mullinix is still hospitalized in Intensive Care at Moore Memorial Hospital after suffering chest pains last Monday and being transported there by the Vass Rescue l^uad.
