Mallard Ralph Bagnal, Jr. of Colpmbia, S.C. became the bride of Robert Thomas Veasey, Jr. of Florence, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Thomas Veasey of Aberdeen, at a candlelight wedding on Saturday, May 30 at 6:30 p.m. in First Baptist Church, Columbia, S.C. The Rev. J. Marshall Edwards officiated at the double-ring ceremony. Wedding music was presented by Mrs. Lowell W. Hayes, organist, and Charles Muller of Florence, vocal soloist. The bride is the granddaughter of Mrs. Ralph Barnett Hollingsworth of Columbia and the late Mr. Hollingsworth and the late Mr. and Afrs. Mallard Ralph Bagnal of Columbia. She was graduated from James H. Hammond Academy; attended Converse College and graduated from Clemson University with a B.S. degree in economics, with honors. She was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Fraternity. She was presented at the 1976 Camellia Ball. She is presently employed as a branch manager for the South Carolina National Bank in Florence, S.C. The bridegroom is the grandson of Mrs. George Henry Hilliard, Sr. of Aberdeen, and the late Mr. Hilliard and the late Mr. and Mrs. James Arthur Veasey of Aberdeen. He was graduated from Pinecrest High School and received his B.S. degree in Entomology, with honors, from North Carolina State University. He is a technical sales representative in the biochemical department for E.I. DuPont De Nemours and Co. in Florence. Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore her_ mother’s wedding gown and veil. The gown was ivory antique satin in long-sleeved design with a gathered drop-shouldered bertha, appliqued in organdy and imported pique eyelet embroidery. TTie fitted b^ce was finished with a wedding band binding over the hipline which accented the shirred hip poufs that fell into a cathedr^ train. Her veil of French illusion was worn in double tiers with a French bonnet halo appliqued in embroidery that matched that on her gown and which continued into a border edging her veil. She carried a semi-cascade bouquet of gardenias, stephanotis, and ivy which was attached to a mother-of-pearl Bible, a gift of Mr. and kfrs. John S. Lucas, her aunt and uncle. She carried a handkerchief made for her by her late great-grandmother. The bride wore a strand of pearls, a wedding gift from the bridegroom. The gown worn by the bride has been worn by five others members of her family: her mother, her sister, her aunt and aunt’s two daughters. Mrs. Albert Sidney Miller, sister of the bride, was matron of honor. She wore a floor length gown of Melon voile over taffeta. The dress was fashioned with tiny spaghetti straps, an inset of ivory schiffi lace on the bodice and a voile jacket that tied at the Waist and had matching lace insets on the sleeves. She wore a strand of pearls, a gift of the bride. She carried a semi-cascade bouquet of orange glow roses, Sonja gerber daisies, miniature carnations and baby’s breath. The honorary bridesmaids were Miss Carol Anne Shrum of Florence, S.C., Miss Susan Wardlaw of Charleston, S.C. and Mrs. Ricky Newsome of Hartsville, S.C. They each carried an orange glow rose. The bridegroom’s best man was his father, Robert Thomas Veasey of Aberdeen. The mother of the bride wore a pale pink chiffon gown trimmed with crystal and rhinestone beading. She carried a corsage of pink cymbidium orchids. The bridegroopi’s mother wore a willow green pleated chiffon gown. She carried a corsage of cymbidium orchids. Mrs. Ralph Barnett Hollingsworth of Columbia, grandmother of the bride, was dressed in a blue gown and wore an orchid corsage. Pines, N.C. 28387 / 692-7613 Although the Moore Republican Women’s Club is only the third most recently organized in North Carolina, it is already the third largest, and the local dub did not organize until last October-and did not receive its diarter until less than three months ago. Its number now totals over 120. The club’s rapid growth was recognized this past weekend by out-going iH-esident of the Nor& Carolina Federation of Republican Women, Vivian Harris, at the Federation’s Births reception was held at Forest Lake Club. The toasting cups used at the wedding have been used at the weddings of the bride’s sister and three of her cousins. After a wedding trip to Hilton Head, S.C. and The Cloisters, Sea Island, Ga. the couple will reside at 15 Manigault Ct. in Florence, S.C. Pre-Nuptial Events Pre-nuptial parties for the bride and bridegroom included showers given by Miss Carol Ann Shrum of Florence and Mrs. William Gause, Miss Ann Gause and Mrs. John Beard of Columbia. Mrs. Sarah Veasey, Mrs. Grace Brigman, Mrs. Lee Singletary and Mrs. Grace Williams were hostesses for a shower given in honor of the couple by the Faith Bible Class of the First Baptist Church of Aberdeen. Dr. Jean V. Fromson and Mrs. Mary V. Bums, sisters of the bridegroom, hosted a luncheon on April 25 at the Pinehurst Country Club. Twenty-four guests, including the bride’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Bagnal of Columbia, attended the event in honor of the bride and groom. Mrs. James Sharpe, Mrs. James D. Walters and Mrs. Lawrence W. Johnson were hostesses for a bridal luncheon held in Columbia, S.C. A brunch honoring the bride and groom, was given by Mrs. Cecil Sturkie and Mrs. William Sellars. Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Paul, Mr. and Mrs. Frank James and Mr. and Mrs. Carl Wellington hosted a dinner party in the couple’s honor. The Goose Neck Hunt Club was the scene of a fish fry honoring Sandra and Bob. 'The gala event was hosted by Miss Celeste Tiller, Miss Lou Ehrlich and Mrs. Johnny Cooper of Columbia and Miss Susan Wardlaw of Charleston. The bride’s aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Nettles Bagnal, honored the couple at a cocktail party given at their home on April 4. The bridesmaids’ luncheon was held at the Sununit Club on May 29. The luncheon was given by Miss Betb Fulmer. Mrs. Allan E. Fulmer, Mrs. Allan E. Fulmer, Jr. and Mrs. Craig Helms. A luncheon for the wedding party and out of town guests was held at the Summit Club at noon on the day of the wedding. The luncheon was hosted by Mrs. Ralph Barnett Hollingsworth, maternal grandmother of the bride, Mr. and Mrs. John S. Lucas of Greensboro and Mr. and Mrs. Robert R. Rigley, Jr., aunts and uncles of the bride. Mr. and Mrs. Robert 'Thomas Veasey, parents of the bridegroom, hosted the rehearsal dinner at the Palmetto Club. The Moore RepubUcan Qub was represented by the maximum number of delegates aUowed at the convention, which was held at the Bordeaux Con vention Center in FayetteviUe May 28,29, and 30. The gathering was hosted by the FayetteviUe RepubUcan Women’s Club and was presided over by President Harris. The Moore delegates were President Anne Frye; Vice- President Dr. Suzanne Watkins; Linda Boles; Margaret DeVolt; Virginia Grimm; Elizabeth Parrish; Esther Schaefer; and Trudie Skinta. Guest speakers at the President’s luncheon on Friday, May 29 included David Flaherty, diairman of the North Carolina RepubUcan Party, and Fred T. Morgan, award-winning author and journaUst and editor of the Stanly News and Press in Albemarle. Seminars were held Friday afternoon, and reports and awards were presented on Saturday morning. May 30. The instaUation luncheon was held on Saturday also, and among the officers for the coming term is the new president, Marie Led better of AsheviUe. The Moore Republican Women’s Club wiU hold its June meeting as usual on the fourth Monday, June 22 at a time and place to be announced in the immediate future.
