Page 12-Sectioii I THE PILOT—Southern Pines, North Carolina Wednesday, June 27,1984 200 1984 COUNTY SEAT — The courthouse in Carthage stands amid stately oaks in the center of town. This view of the western-most side of the structure shows off Civil War cannon and the monument erected to honor World War I Aviator James McConnell who was killed in action over France. The courthouse was opened in 1924. Several other Moore County courthouses preceded it. We Welcome Visitors And Those Who Wish To Join Us In Building A Good Life And A Better Tomorrow. Moore County Celebrates Its 200th Birthday And Invites All Its Citizens To Join In The Celebration. EDUCATION CENTER — Sandhills Community College, located near Southern Pines and Pinehurst, has been an educational center for more than 20 years in Moore County. This beautiful campus is known in the North Carolina Community College System as the “Queen” of the more than 50 other such colleges.
