Friday. Octohkii 11. 11)01. County Commissioners Meet. Board met Monday in regular session, all members present. In addition to the allowing of accounts and other routine mat ters, the following business was transacted: It was ordered that the Board ask the adjoining counties to send their convicts to the roads in Clayton township. The petition for a new road leading from Benson road to Smithfield and Fayetteville road near N. T. .McLamb's, was laid over till next meeting; also peti tion for new road from sand hill opposite Elias Hose's to Prince ton road was laid over. \V. It. Strickland was granted free peddler's license for a term of 12 months. \V. X. Faulkner was appointed to look after Selma bridge at fit) per yt ar. A. M. Sanders was^ip pointed Fence Commissioner to superin tend the building of the stock-law fence along the Hunter road from Ashley Wallace's to the Wake county line as per act of Eegi-la tureof 1901, at a salary of #2 per day. The Board granted the pet ition for stock-law in portion of Ban ner and Elevation townships and .1. I). Morgan and N. T. Ityals were appointed Fence Commis sioners for said territory. The petition asking that the remainder of Pleasant Grove township be made stock-law terri tory was approved. J. B. Hardee and W. T. \\ hittington were ap pointed Fence Commissioners. It was ordered that the Fence Commissioners for the new stock law territory in Banner, Eleva tion and Pleasant Grove town ships shall not be paid until funds' are collected from the special tax to be levied in 1902. Mr. W. L. Banks Married. Wednesday morning at the home of the bride's mother near Eureka, Wayne county, Miss Margaret Lane was married to Mr. W. L. Banks of this city. The beautiful bride entered the handsomely decorated parlor on the arm of her brother, Mr. J. B. Eane, marching to Lohengrin's wedding march which was played by Miss Beulah Lawrence, of Tarboro. r'uriug cue ceremony wuiuu was performed, by Rev. Mr. Dai ley, "0 Promise Me," was sweetly rendered. The groom's best man was his brother, Mr. G. G. 1 tanks?the other attendants being Dr. J. R. Edmundson with Miss May Kaircloth, both of this city. The ceremony was a very solemn and impressive one?the ring being used. Immediately after the ceremony the daintily prepared wedding breakfast was served, after which the happy couple took carriages for Fre mont where they boarded the cars for Buffalo and other north ern cities. This popular couple received a larg? number of handsome pres ents?many of them quite costly. Miss Lane has visited in this city where by her many graces of hand and heart she made nuiner friends. Mr. Ranks is a popular and successful insurance agent ol this city. He was originally from Johnston county.?Wilson Times, 4th. Died in Washington Mr. Albert Smith, who lived in Smithfleld from 1S7<> to 1S72, died suddenly in Washii gton City Saturday morning, aged about GO years. Mr. Smith had been chief of a division in the Treasury Depart* ment at Washington for eighteen years. He was one of the eight | men in the entire Fuited States who successfully passed the civil service examination shortly af ter the act was passed. He' was a son of M*\ J. II. ? Smith who was born in this coun ty and moved to Alabama a great many years before the civil war, and was the only surviving | brother of Mrs. Anna M. Pouand Miss Martha T. Smith, of Smitli field. His remains were carried | to Cullman, Alabama, for inter | ment and w reaccompanied part | of the way by Mrs. i'ou and Miss Smith.
