the town library. Two or three years ago some of the young ladies of the town conceiv ed the idea of establishing a library f?>r the town. They formed the Li brary Department of the Woman's Club and set to work. Their first ven ture was a Book Social at the Town Opera House. This resulted in hav ing more than one hundred books given as a nucleus for a library. The next step was the securing of the sec ond floor of the little brick building next door to the Cotter Hardware Company foj- a library room. These young ladies have worked in various ways to raise funds to buy books. With the books they have bought and those given by friends of the institu tion a library of nearly five hundred volumes has been accumulated. In passing we are glad to state that to Miss Ava Myatt, perhaps, more than any one else, is due great credit for the success of the undertaking. She has been faithful in keeping the library open on Friday, doing the work a large part of the time herself. Oth ers who have assisted in the work of the library are Mrs. A. H. Rose, Miss lone Abell, Miss Annie Ihrie Pou, and one or two others. They have begun a fine work and should have the heartiest encouragement. The library has reached the point where it needs more funds and better quarters. It also needs a better system of cata loguing the books. Miss Myatt has furnished us a list of the books in the library which we are glad to publish complete in this issue, as follows: Andersen's Fairy Tales. Aucassin and Nieolette. A Prince of Forestry. Reject* President Wilson's Suggestion That Relations With Germany Be Broken. The Swedish government rejects President Wilson's suggestion that other neutral countries join with the United States in severing diplomatic relations with Germany, and declares its intention to follow the strictest neutrality as long as it is possible. Sweden's reply was delivered to the American minister Thursday. "The government of the United States has chosen as a means of ar riving at the realization of peace a method absolutely contrary to the principles which have guided the pol icy of the Swedish government up to the present hour." So declares the Swedish note, which the minister of foreign affairs, K. A. Wallenberg, delivered to the Ameri can minister, Ira Nelson Morris, in reply to President Wilson's invitation to Sweden to join with the United States, which Mr. Morris communi cated to the Swedish government on Monday. Individuals, like nations, must have suitable, board and natural bounda ries, even a considerable neutral ground, between them. ? Thoreau. r~ gU it *for c/ ? /? ?? my wife O OTHER LIKE IT.
