The Allies have come to a full agreement as to I the remodelling of Europe's map af iter ths war. A sketch showing the peace aims of these countries was shown a United Press correspondent 1 to-day at one of the allied embassies. | Taking territory here, straighten ing lines there, they intend to have such restorations as will tend toward international peace in the future. } While Germany dreams of a Mittel Europe, running from the North Sea , to Bagdad under Teuton dominion, the Allies have agreed that the war shall go on until this dream vanishes. | First in the Allies' proposals is the restoration of Belgium. Francc, ac cording to plans, is to have Alsace Lorraine. Constantinople will be in ternationalized, and the Turkish Gov ernment's grasp on Europe lessened. > The Grccian boundary will be shov ed northward, while^Greece will also get some of the islands near her in the Mediterranean. Italy will have Trent and Trieste, some straightening of her northern boundary, and a small slice of terri tory across the Adriatic. Croatia and Bohemia will be made into independ ent States, while Poland will be es tablished as an independent territory as a buffer between Germany and Russia. i It is proposed to divide Austria Hiyigary into two States. % j Thcso readjustments are not based upon conquest, but upon determina tion that peoples shall live in State; of their own nationality. The Allies do not propose to yield German Afri can colonies, in view of Germany's abuses. These terms are allied terms. Amer ica has not lent itself to them. All this Government says on such sub j"cts is, "Let us beat Germany and the lin< s will then take care of them selves." ? Carl IX Groat, in New Yorjj Evening Sun. The Beauty of Temperance. Do not hang your house round with tablets and pictures, but with the beauty of temperance. ? Epictetus. FRANKLIN'S GULL lLarus franklini) Length, fifteen inches. During its residence in the United States Frank lin's gull is practically confined to the interior and is the only inland gull with black head and red hill. Range: Breeds in the Dakotas, Iowa, Minnesota, and the neighboring parts of southern Canada; winters from the Gulf coast to South America. Habits and economic status: Near ly all of our gulls are coast-loving spe cies and spend comparatively little of their time in fresh water, but Frank lin's is a true inland gull. Extensive marshes bordering shallow lakes are its chosen breeding grounds, and as many such areas are being reclaimed for agricultural purposes it behooves the tillers of the soil to protect this valuable species. When undisturbed this gull becomes quite fearless and fol lows the plowman to gather the grubs and worms from the newly turned fur rows. It lives almost exclusively upon insects, of which it consumes great quantities. Its hearty appetite is manifest from the contents of a few stomachs: A, 327 nymphs of dragon flies; 13, 340 grasshoppers, 52 bugs, 3 beetles, 2 wasps, and 1 spider; C, 82 beetles, 87 bugs, 984 ants, 1 cricket, 1 grasshopper, and 2 spiders. About four-fifths of the total food is grass hoppers, a strong point in favor of this bird. Other injurious creatures eai'en ? re billbugs. squash bugs, leaf hoppers, click beetles (adults of wireworms). May beetles (adults of white grubs), and weevils. Franklin's gull is prob ably the most beneficial bird of its group. 1 hat's the beauty of the New Perfection. You're never delayed and exasperated by a "slow fire."
