READ THIS LETTER IN FULL CAREFULLY Mr Shelby, N C., Sept. 27. Wilson, N. C. Dear Sir: One of our representatives writes us that he has sold you a small block of stock of the Cade * Manufacturing Co., and that you are considering the purchase of a much larger block of stock, but before doing so you desired information direct from the officers of the Company touching the status .of the business and the plans for the future, hence this letter. PURPOSE: ? This Company was organized to finance the invention of Mr.. Baylus Cade, a prac % tical printer in his youthful days, an experienced newspaper man and a mechanical jrenius. The Com ??? pany had three purposes in view, viz: First to secure necessary patents; second, to develop a machine on the line of the patents ; and, third, to manufacture machines for the market. ACCOMPLISHMENTS TO DAT$: ? We have secured four (4) American patents, a fifth has ( ? been allowed and a sixth applied for. We have thirteen (13) foreign patents covering the leading countries of the world. Other patents will be secured from time to time as improvements are made on the machine. The initial machine completed is a mechanical success and fully demonstrates the soundness of the principals involved. ? The machine was operated in the shop of the builders for several months after its completion for demonstration purposes. Several persons from this community witnessed its operation, among ' the number being the writers of this letter. All expressed surprise at the splendid and positive manner in which the various parts of the machine worked ; all were enthusiastic and predicted a bright future for the machine. PRESENT PURPOSES: ? Under our charter granted under the laws of North Carolina, we are now selling stock to raise capital for building and properly equipping a factory at some suitable point for the manufacture of machines for the market. We hope to build a plant large enough to turn out at least- 1000 or more machines the first year of our operation. We are informed and believe that tfye machine can be built and sold at a cost of approximately $600. If we sell the machine at even as low as $1,500.00 (which is less than half the price of the standard machine now on the market) , there will be a clear profit of $900.00 on each ma chine. While the work of selling the stock and building the factory are under way, the Company will have built under contract a limited number of machines for demonstration purposes. This work will start in a few weeks. CONTRACT WITH INVENTOR: ? As required by law, all patents were issued in the name of the inventor, but on the 14th day of October, 1914, all patents were assigned to'the Cade Manufact uring Company absolutely, the assignment being drawn by Jas. L. Morris, a leading patent attorney of Washington, I). C.. and being registered on October 17. 1914. in Liber Q. 90, page 26, of the trans fer of Patents in the Patent Oflice. All future patents to be granted to the inventor on this machine covering improvements will inure to the Company. The inventor says that every feature of the ma chine is covered by patents. INFRINGEMENTS OF PATENTS: ? Numerous Linotype experts have examined the machine from time to time and so far as the writers know there has been no alleged infringement on any other patent. To the contrary, one of the writers hereof heard the following remark relative to the Cade Machine from a mechanical engineer of the Mergenthaler Linotype Company: "You will never have any trouble with our Company about infringements of our patents. Your machine is unique. You are entitled to all that is in your invention." We do not believe there is the remotest possi bility of any infringements. LOCATION OF FACTORY : ? The location will be determined by the Directors and Stockhold ers. As this is the fruit of NORTH CAROLINA BRAIN and CAPITAL, the writers would be pleased to see the OLD NORTH STATE secure the factory and all that such a plant would mean. We believe this is the greatest business proposition before the American people today. We would be rclad to have your hearty co-operation on i\ large scale in making it a world-wide success, as we believe the sales will be limited only by our capacity to manufacture. Thanking you for your subscription, which we hereby acknowledge, and awaiting your further command, we are, Yours very truly, (Signed.) E. R. HAMRICK, President. (Signed.) J. II. QUINN, Secretary-Treasurer. A prominent and wealthy business man of Wilson says: Ohe 'of the great est opportunities for investment the people of our State have ever had. Read his letter.
