MOORE'S SCHOOL NOTES. Our school attendance is increasing as the whooping cough is dying down, but some few are still tugging along with it. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Hare gave a sup per to the teachers of Moore's School House and Stallings' Cross Roads, and a few other special friends, last Fri day night. The box party at Stallings' Cross Roads proved to be a success. The proceeds amounted to $41.20, which will be used for the benefit of the school. A voting contest was had which proved Miss Oda Ward, teacher of the school, to be the best looking girl, who was presented a nice box of candy. Mr. Lonnie Hare and Mr. Johnnie Sasser, went to Raleigh Tuesday to enlist in war service. Miss Essie Sasser was a visitor in Kenly Saturday night and Sunday. Miss Dixie Narron spent Sunday night with her uncle, Mr. Newsom Narron. Miss Narron was on her way to Red Springs to enter school there. There will be a box party at Moore's School House Saturday night, Jan uary 19. Refreshments will be served. Public invited. "L. F." A Visit to The County Home. Through the kindness of Messrs. Bradley Pearce, B. S. Reynolds, Wal ter Ward and Cameron, auto proprie tors, the Philathea Class of the Selma Mill Sunday School made a visit to day, Sunday, to the County Home. A bag of confections and fruits and other small gifts were provided for each inmate of the Home. It was real pleasure to carry this Christmas cheer to these people. The health of the institution was good and the houses and environment clean. Much credit i3 due the superintendent, Mr. G. M. Hinton, and his wife for the cleanliness of the place. When we consider the resources of the great county of Johnston we are led to think that the county might afford a better equipment for the housing of her unfortunates. The people seemed t*> be contented and without complaint which, to the writer, seems to be a thing unusual with this class of peo ple. Before leaving, after distributing the gifts, through request of the peo ple, the class sang several hymns for the enjoyment of the folks. G. F. B. Selma, N. C., Jan. (5, 1918. BETHANY NOTES. Mr. and Mrs. B. B. Batten who have been sick with diphtheria are still con fined to their rooms, but are improv ing some. Our teachers have returned from their homes but have not taught much on account of the snow and cold. Most of the farmeis in this sectio'n have killed hogs and have enough meat for home use. Arthur Creech who has been at Camp- Sevier for some time spent a couple of days with his home folks last week, and told many intereting things of camp life that we had not heard before. He returned to the Camp Sunday. Mr. Julian Creech who has been at Akron, Ohio, for nearly a year, re turned to his home Sunday after hav ing spent the Christmas holidays with his parents. He accompanied Mr. Arthur Creech as far as Greensboro, N. C. Mr. and Mrs. E. Creech, ofMiddle sex, spent a day or two in this section last week, Mr. and Mrs. D. C. Smith, of Micro, visited Mr. C. Creech last Saturday. A good many people are moving from one section to another. You can almost tell what kind of folks new comers are by the way they do. If they go to church and Sunday school, and leave the bad alone, you will find it out, and if they don't go to church but seek a drunken crowd, and stagger up and down the road full of moon shine whiskey, you can soon tell which side they are on. ?
