Ether??dg*?.) Thero is no better time than n?.\v to impress upon the minds of the people the need of savnig of nil the sweets that can be saved. Honey is a product that would absolutely go to waste were i not for the Bee. I have just been to New Bern, N. C., to tho St?.te Beekeepers Association which is com prised of Beekeepers from all over the State. We had a good meeting which was attended by members from Cherokee to Currituck and from Alle ghany to Brunswick Counties. These were in attendance prominent men from the Department of Agriculture at Washington, 1). C. and from the factory of the A. I. Root Co. bf Med ina, Ohio. This Association represents a mem bership of over 160 who keep a total of over 9000 ec lonies of bees. Mr. C. L. Sams, who is employed by the De partment from Washington, is the State inspector and is always ready to help anyone who k^eps bees to keep them better and in a more profitable manner. All anyone has to do is to drop him a card in carp of the Depart ment at Raleigh, N. C., and he will come at once and assist in any way he can. They learned fr^m the past year that North Carolina is the fourth in States but North Carolina is the 11th in production of honey. This is due th in production of honey. This is due largely to the methoas by which the bec3 are kept. Over half the people ten from these was about 9 pounds and the average amount of honey got keep their bees in box hives or gums while those who kept their bees in the modern hives got an average of about forty pounds. It is the duty of every person who has any bees this year to get from them the most they cup. If anyone i:; not going to improve their methods and try to get the most out of tliem they should let someone liav* them that will, and not let them go to waste. I have a few colonies of bees in my yard at Selma and anyone who is in terested in bees and wants to see some of the modern frame hives and Itali an bees will do well Ac drop by and see mine. I will take pleasure in showing you over these and will help you in any way I can. If you want to trans fer your bees from the boxes or Gums : if you will let me know in time and get the frame hives I will help you do this. If you are not a member of the Bee keepers Association you should join right now and get the benefits of this fine organization, it only costs $1.00 per year and is worth many times this amount. If you have bees that are not pay ing you and you want to get rid of them see me or write me how many you have and what you will take for them and I will buy them from you. Don't keep them if they do not pay you. ^ Don't sell your honey and wax too cheap. If you do not know what honey and wax is worth, find out and get for it what it is worth. A few years ago honey in Johnston County sold for 10 cents per pound; today it is bring ing 20 to 25 cents. Wax a few years ago was bringing 15 to 18 cents today it is worth from 35 to 42 cents. Does it pay to keep bees? I say it does and also it helps to conserve food and sweets. Raise more bees rnd better bees. Raise Italian bees and raise them in frame hives. Selma, N. C. ELEVATION NOTES.
