1.1 I HI I --...-! I ' - MlScELLJiXEOUSl For the Free Frees. A faint description of an Elect rica I Perform mice, IN THE MASONIC-HALL, Tarboro 1st end 2d Dec. 182-1. The old performer, with scroll in nam!, Under the arch did gravely stand; And from the pages of his scroll Jabbered forth, with all his soul, The wondrous works Of man. The listening audience, with curi ous eye, Sat impatient, as did I; t They did not go to hear his lec tures, Nor did they go to see his gestures; But went to see Electricity. To a slender string he suspended The solar system, as he pretended; The planetVenus revolving round it, Together with Jupiter rolling round it; Kept, I suppose, in their orbits By attraction. Then with his tubes and brass con ductors, While jabbering out their vise con structors, Gathered a volley of electric fluid, Together with fire by friction brewed; And when he had got all these pre pared, lie thundered and lightened. He then gave notice, that he inten ded To exhibit a housc, wiscly invented; And with an electric bolt of thunder Would knock the roof complete a- sunder, And set the body On fire. He then hatch'd up the pigmy house, 'Bout large enough for one lone mouse; And with his electric thunder bolt Gave the house a thundering jolt, Which stove the top away entire, But the hull escap'd the fire. Then asked the company if they Knew The enigma, written by one in view, But no one saying yea nor nay, He took some powder and paff'd away, And solved our Doctor's Riddle. Then with Galvani's strange ma chine, The d n'dest thing ever seen, He gives all hands an electric shock Together with a wishful look, And closes, then, the scene. TIMOTHY. U. S. Loan.
