THALIA. ashington, N.C. 12 March. The Army.-In the Senate of the U. S. on the 29th uk. a reso lution was introduced proposing to abolish the office of Major Ge neral of the Army of the U. S. re cently vacated by the death of Ja cob Brown: Mr. MACON expressed him self friendly to the object of the resolution; he thought it a bad matter to have too many high offi ces in time of peace. The ex ploits in the late war were per formed by men in the vigor of life and manhood he would not, however, reflect on old men, and if we were ever engaged in ano ther war, it would be the same kind of men that would lead our soldiers to victory. There was frequently as much military capa city exhibited by men in private life, as in those who had been long in service.
