Mr. R. conlinded his survey of the Ceu iral RoiiiJ westward, the estimate would have been still higher. We fear that if ihc Central Rail road cannot be accomplished at a much less sum than Mr. Rawlo's estimate, it will not, at present, be effected. ib. CCTJt will he seen, on reference to the Senate proceedings, that the Resolutions reported by JuIe Toomer, on the sub ject of the controversy between South Carolina and the General Government, have been adopted in that branch, by an overwhelming majority. Their passage by as decided a vote in the House of Cdmmons, is equally certain. They were discussed at great length on Wed nesday, but the question on their passage was not taken, in consequence of the wish expressed by several gentlemen to deliver their views on the subject. The entire debute so far, has been elicited on that particular Resolution which denoun ces the doctrine of Nullification as tend ing directly to a dissolution of the Union. This having been read, Mr. Potts rose in its support, and spoke for a considera ble time with great force and eloquence, in which he exposed in vivid colors tin? absurdity of the doctrine. He was re plied to by Mr. Sawyer, of Edenton, who took a wide range, in which he endeavor ed to show that Nullification, as avowed by South Carolina, is essentially the same doctrine as is inculcated in the Virginia and Kentucky Resolutions, and was act ed upon by Virginia. Mr. Bragg took the "floor next, in reply to Mr. Sawyer, and in favor of the resolution. When he concluded, after numerous ineffectual ef forts, the House, on motion of Mr. Ec cles, adjourned about 4 o'clock. ib. CTWe learn from the Raleigh papers, that on Monday of last week, after 12 ballotings continued for nearly a week, Joseph John Daniel, one of the Judges of our Superior Courts of Law and Equity, was elected to fill the vacancy occasioned on the Supreme Court Bench, bv the re signation of Judge Hall. On the first ballot, John D. Toomer received 08 voles, Henry Seawell 4G, J. J. Daniel 44, Fre derick Nash 9, Robert Strange 3, scat tering 12. After the 2d balloting, Nash and Strange were withdrawn. On the 7th ballot, Geo. E. Badger was added, and the vote stood, for Toomer 72, Dan iel 59, Seawell 30, Badger 20, scatter ing 3 Badger was then withdrawn. Af ter the 9th ballot Seawell was withdrawn. On the 12th and last ballot, Daniel recei ued 95 votes, Toomer OB, scattering fi. On Wednesday, two ineffectual ballot ings took place fur a Judge of the Supe rior Courts, in the place of Judge Daniel. On the first ballot, Henry Seawell recei ved 5S votes, Richmond Pearson 32, John D. Eceles32, James S. Jones 21, Spen cer O'Brien 15, scattering 14. On the 2d ballot, Seawell G5, Eccles 33, Pear son 27, O'Brien 22, Jones 15, scattering o. On the same day, Daniel M. Barring er, Charles L. Hinion and 'Daniel W. Courts, Esqrs. were elected Trustees of the University, to supply vacancies in the Board. State of the balloting Barrin ger 117, Hinton 110, Courts 89, H. Mc Queen 82, T. Sumner 58, scattering 10. James Wyche has been re-elected Su pcrintendant of Public Works, for the en suing year, without opposition. Raleigh, Jan. 4. On Friday evening, an entertainment was given at Mr. Rigs bee's Hotel, by the citizens of this city, to the Members of the Legislature; which was attended by between three and four hundred ladies and gentlemen. The supper table was plentifully and tasteful ly furnished, and every arrangement had been made which could conduce to the pleasure and comfort of the large compa ny assembled on the occasion. The ball room especially attracted attentiou, and called forth the universal admiration of the spectators. It was handsomely de corated with flags, paintings and transpa rencies, executed by Mr. Alfred Waugh, miniature painter, of this place. At the west end of the hall was a brilliant trans parency representing our State Capitol as it stood previous to its destruction, with the American Eagle hovering over its dome, bearing in its beak a scroll with an inscription in these words: "the Lcrj. laturc of 1832." At the was another, emblematic of the three grand divisions of the continent earth, wood and water in which appeared the standard of the Union, planted on a rock, with the following inscription near the foot of its staff: "Our country, Our whole country and nothing but our countrv." The sides of the room were also orna mented with elegant transparencies, de vices and heraldic designs, too numerous to designate. Suffice it to say, that the arrangements were such as to give uni versal satisfaction. Star. GTThe Supreme Court commenced its Winter Term on Mondav lasr ;ll tin, Judges present. ib. Raleigh, Jan. l.-The inadequacy of a weekly newspaper to give even a sy nopsis of what is going on in these stir ring and eventful times, has suggested to our mind the expediency of publishing our paper twice a week. There is not at present a semi-weekly newspaper in the State, though we believe there is a dispo sition to support one. If we can obtain a sufficient number of subscribers to jus tify the undertaking, we will commence issuing one early in the spring. Con'sl. OThe Charleston Courier, of the 25th ult. says: The United Stales' troops which had been located in the Arsenal, on Charleston Neck, at the request of the State and city authorities, were removed yesterday, with all the armament attach ed thereto, to Fort Moultrie." Cholera. The malignant Cholera has made its appearance in Nashville, Ten nessee. The Board of Health of that place published a report on the 13th ult. in which it is stated that five or six cases had occurred there, and there had been three deaths. A report of the 15th, states that no further cases had occurred. MARRIED, Tn this place, onQThursday evening last, by the Rev. VVm. Norwood. Mr. Danford Rich ards to Miss Mary R.
