Senate, stipulating fur the' fern oval of the wholtt "Chickasaw miiiotj" west 'of the Mississippi. The Churokucs are now the only Indians remaining within uny of the Slates. OTft is stated in the Eastern papers, that after the rejection of Gwinn by the enate, Gen. Jackson nominated a per son of the name of Coleman, another Tennessean, for the office in Mississippi to which he had nominated Gwinn. The Senate adhering to their rule not In sanc tion the appointment of citizens from an other Stite, rejected this nomination al eo. The Itilclligencer stales that after the nomination of Gwinn had been re jected for the third time, he was appoint ed by the President to a new office just created in the same State, which appoint ment was approved by the Senate; the original objection of that body that Mr. Gwinn was not a citizen of Mississippi, having been removed by his becoming a resident of the State. Ken. Rep. C7TIie Hon. William Baylies, a Jack- i fonman, is elected to Congress, in dis trict No. 10, Massachusetts. This is the Hist Jackson man ever elected to Con gress by the "Bav State." Tho undertaking, says the Commercial, though we fear a hopeless one is deserving of great praise, a well ror the benevolence of its primary as for the importance of its ulterior object. Explosion. -The powder mill of Haz ard, Loomis & Co. of Canton, Conn, was blown up on the 22d uit. and kill ed three persons. Law on Bctting....Row F. Carman lately brought suit against John M. Bloodgood, for the recovery of S1500 placed in the hands of the defendant, on ly as a stake-holder, in a bet on a match to be trotted on Long Island, N. Y. in October last. The match took place, Carman fairly lost the money, and Bloodgood honestly paid it over to the person who won it. The jury returned a verdict for the plaintiff of 1500 dama ges and 6 rents cost. MARRIED, In Nah county, on the 11th inst. Thomas R- Wiggins, Esq. to Miss Mary Arrington. Disaster. The Washington Union says: .The schooner William A. Blount, Williams master, cleared from this port on the 23d ult. with a cargo of naval ttores, colton and staves, bound for New York. After being a few hours out from the bar, she was found to be in a sinking condition. The water, we learn, when first discovered, was upon the cabin floor, bo that it . was impossible to save the ves sel. The captain and crew were taken off by the schooner Helen, Gray, who was in company at the time, and the B. sank soon alter. She had -appealed to the Supreme Court, which confirmed the judgment that! had been pronounced by the Superior Court! Raleigh Reg. CTThe Merchant's and Planter's Bank at Augusta, (Geo.) has stopped pay ment. Fay. Obs. The Cholera. It is stated that a ves sel has arrived at Portsmouth, New Hampshire, from Havana, with the Cho lera on board, and that several persons have died on board. Cholera. The Franklin (Missouri) Republican says: This disease has at length assumed a rather more serious as pect among us. At first few cases pro ved fatal except those which occurred among the colored population persons of temperate habits were seldom attack ed; and then, wheu medical aid was re sorted to in lime, relief was almost sure to follow. But of late, citizens, particu larly noted for their temperance have fal len victims to this king of maladies. We have heard of 12 or 15 cases since the publication ofourlast number. From the report of the committee an finance in the Legisla ture of this Stale, it appears that the Slate debt, including loans and subscriptions, amounts to 20,075,627 64: And that the public properly of the State, consist ing of Bank, Turnpike, Canal and Bridge stocks, debts due for lands, and valuing their canals at $25,000,000 amount to 831,989,600. Applications were made to the Legis lature for 20 or 25 new Banks. Three or four of which were granted, but Gov. Wolf vetoed all but the one chartered at Pittsburg. The North West Expedition. Capt. HAN OFF from my plantation on Toisnot, Edgecombe county, on the 19th inst. a negro man named 22 or 23 years old, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, stout builtiquite yellow for the appearance of his hair which is as knotty as the negro's usually is, has long lips, large feet and long toes, has a down look when spoken to, had on when he went off dark clothes and a black furred hat. He will probably lurk about Dr. HalPs plantation near Tarborough, where his father and mother are, until he can procure free papers to pass to a free State, as he has done the like before. 1 will give the above reward to any person who will confine him in somej'ail within this State so that I get him again, or deliver him to me in Stantonsburg. The season has com menced and will end the 1st of July next. All those who wish to sup ply themselves with Gins of the best quality are respectfully solicited to apply to the Subscriber, personally, or by letter. All orders for Gins will be promptly executed. From the Subscri ber's long experience in his business, and from the approbation which his work has hitherto met with, he hesitates not to promise entire satisfac tion to all who may see fit to extend to him their patronage. Gins out of order will be expedi tiously repaired. The Subscriber takes the lib erty of calling the attention of those who wish to procure new Gins, or to have old Gins repair ed, to the expediency of applying to him in time. RAN AWAY from the Subscriber, on Sunday night last, an indented apprentice, a colored boy, named WILLIS HAMMONDS, Aged about 16 years, tolerably stout built, bright comnlexion and bushv head. Hi grandmother is a free woman named Olive Ham monds, and lives in Halifax county, where I expect Willis will try to get, as he has several other connec tions in that county. Said boy stole his indentures, and will probably try to pass himself with them as free. The above reward w ill be paid for his recove ry, if delivered to me, in Edgecombe county, near Col. Benj.
