Married, in Alashua, Raft Florida, Hon. Judge Hall, to Miss Dorothy Deer iiiiT, lute of Portsmouth, N. U.- The Portsmouth Journal gives the fol lowing history of this lady as a specimen of Yankee female enterprise: "Several years since this very respecta ble young lady, who was in a state of "single blessedness," opened a milliner's shop and fancy good store in this town, he prosecuted ber business with suc cess for some time, and made considera ble money; but at length there was a se vere depression in the various depart ments of trade among our citizens, and the milliner suffered in common with her neigbors, although ber complaints at this decline of busines were by no means so loud as theirs. She had a large stock of goods, on hand, for such an establish ment, and not few of them had become shop worn and rusty. As for staying in this dull town any longer where-there was no prospect either for marriage or money she said she could not. So she settled up her affairs as fast as she could. with a determination to seek her fortune somewhere else. She packed up her stodk of goods, which amounted to be tween two and three thousand dollars and shipped them to East Florida, where she went herself also. In a few months she wrote back tidings to her friends in Portsmouth, stating that she had n pros perous journey, had opened shop, found business brisk, and had sold merchan dize at profit of fifty per cent. She has resided in Florida two or three years has been fortunate in all her speculations in buying and selling English and Amer ican dry goods enjoyed fine health, and made a great many acquaintances and friends. Last and best of all, she has got married to a very wealthy widower, and writes back word, that Florida is the place for heri She says also, that there arc other chances in Florida nearly as good as Iter's, Onondaga and Seneca Indians. A proposition was lately made by the Gov ernment to the remnants of these to ac cept of certain lands at Green Boy in ex change for their possessions in New York. This they refused at a recent meeting held at the Council House at Buffalo creek. The following are the resolutions passed on that occasion. They are signed by 50 of the Chiefs and head men of the tribes: Resolved. That we, the chiefs and head men of the Seneca and Onondaga nations of Indians, are now possessed of lands within this state amply sufficient for ourselves and our children, and that we imve no inclination whatever to remove therefrom. Resolved, That we will not accept the proposition made to us by the Secretary of War, through our agent, to appoint a delegation to witness a survey of lands at Green Bay, nor will we in anywise in terest ourselves concerning said proposition. ized themselves for the purpose of break ing up the establishment. Their (the Mormoniie) printing press was thrown down, store and machine shop broken up, the leaders tarred and feathered, and a time set for their departure. What course may be pursued towards the follower, is not yet known. Balloons. Mr. Durant, the celebrated Aeronaut, made his seventh ascension on I hursday week at Albany, New York. I he ascent is stated to have been made in his best style, and that every thing conspired to render it gratifying to the immense concourse of spectators (nearly 4000) who had assembled to witness it. Aug. 9, 1S33. Family Steamer. rjHHK Subscriber has obtained the patent riht of this useful invention for Edgecombe coun ty and now offers them for sale. It is admirably adapted, from its simplicity, its easy application, and ils various and important uses, to the conve nience and comfort of the neat and industrious housewife. It is a portable steam generator, whose principal object is to assist in creating and preserving cleanliness, to destroy obnoxious in-' seem and vermin, and to prevent their increase. It is used without trouble or inconvenience, and supersedes the annoying application of water in many eases. That vexatious and indispensable ceremony, which is after all too often ineffectu al, the cleaning of bedsteads, may be performed most thoroughly by the aid of this apparatus, without taking them apart or removing them, and without the slightest injury to the floor or carpet upon which they stand. Not a bug or other insect can possibly escape the searching and destructive power of this instrument. For cleansing furniture, removing spots from paint, purifying varnish, cleansing windows and look ing glasses, picture frames, maps, &c. it is most completely adapted. Its penetrating power is truly wonderful. The smallest crack or fissure may be thoroughly searched and every thing harbored there effectually removed. It may be useful too to destroy worms, which so often in fest fruit trees, without injuring the trees them selves; and to remove skippers from bacon with out affecting the meat. In fine, in those nume rous essential family operations, which, while they contribute to neatness, health and comfort, are so often full of trouble and vexation to the matron and to all about her, it is almost an in valuable auxiliary, and when it shall be introdu ced into general use I have no doubt it will rank among the must valuable and indispensable arti cles of housewifery. It is capable likewise of being employed in many cooking operations to great advantage. It will, lor example, boil eggs or potatoes with great ease and in a most excel lent manner. SOLOMON PENDER.
